Kercem Farmhouse Rental Photos and Description
Self-catering & only a few minutes away from the historic Citadel of Victoria
This is a delightful, 18 century, self-catering, small terraced holiday house. It was charmingly and affectionately converted to meet modern holiday needs with an en-suite shower room and air-conditioning in each bedroom without spoiling the unique local ambience. It is aimed exclusively for the adult couple who want to spend good quality time with one another in what was voted ' BEST FOR ROMANCE ' in Woman's Own, August 2011. It is quaint and private, unique and comfortable and excellent value for money. It is on the periphery of the village of Kercem with great walks and amazing views. Our holiday home is only a few minutes walk to the historic capital city of Rabat and the great Citadel. One finds oneself in an amazing array of legendary buildings and sitings with numerous restaurants and cafes to wonder, ponder and marvel over a cup of cappuccino.
Walk in through the red front door and you enter a small outdoor courtyard with solid limestone balustrades stairs leading to the bedrooms. On your left, an extremely old loggia with a small but well equipped bespoke kitchen. Straight through is a cool lounge, with sofa, arm-chairs & dining table; TV, CD & free WIFI Internet. Downstairs is served with a shower room, w.c. and basin for ease and comfort. There is also a washing machine for own personal use. Upstairs there are two en suite bedrooms with shower-rooms and air conditioning for that special extra comfort. One bedroom has a king-size double bed, the smaller bedroom, two single beds. A gate leads to a typical maltese flat roof, our own private 'terrazin' with amazing views of the Citadel, various parish churches and the amazing Lunzjata valley. Here you will find a small room with chairs and cushions for your personal use. Relax & sunbath with a glass of wine and a good book. Or just peruse over the Lunzjata valley and watch the locals farm their land and others walking to the chapel for the 5 o'clock mass. Feel part of the history watching it all unfold in front of you.
But don’t forget that the island of Gozo boasts of fantastic secluded beaches, historic buildings & many many restaurants and cafes.
OUR QUAINT BUT TYPICAL GOZO FARMHOUSE: Our Holiday house is set on the edge of the village of Ta Kercem terraced between two other farmhouses. It is only 350 metres away from the nearest bus stop. It has two floors and access to a private roof, with reclining sunbathing-chairs and parasol. You enter through the front door into an open air courtyard. This courtyard leads to a spacious living room with a dining area, a separate kitchen and a downstairs wash room. An Easy-Line telephone is also available, offering very cheap rate phone calls both locally and to family and friends abroad. Upstairs on the first floor is a very comfortable, air-conditioned bedroom, with en-suite facilities. A second room has the same facilities but with two separate beds and the room is very small. A staircase leads to the terraced roof where you can see as many as 7 churches, the famous and historic Citadel and the beautiful Lunzjata valley. A small 'flintstone' room on the roof has a parasol and cushions for the sun-beds. Watch the villagers farm their fields to the east below and the locals going to church at 17h00. To the front, you can see the street with some other rented farmhouses, local houses and villas. To the south the street becomes a lane which goes down to the famous natural spring at Fontana and further down numerous fields leading to Xlendi Bay. Watch the local festa procession wind its way past our street from the comfort of our roof. Kercem's traditional procession made its way from the Cathedral to the old church of Saint Gregory. Gozitan men promised that they would take their brides to be to this procession every year. The capital city Victoria can be seen from here and it takes only a few minutes to get there if you so decide. Plan your holiday from our roof, the perfect place to relax, watch the sunset and enjoy a good bottle of wine. Bed linen and towels, electricity, water, gas & free internet access are all included in our price. On your arrival, our house-keeper will leave you our complimentary welcome pack, with bread, milk, ham, cheese, coffee, eggs, water and a bottle of local wine to see you through the first day.
OUR LOVELY VILLAGE: Our Village Kercem also known as Ta' Kercem has a population of around 1627. It is only 3 to 5 minutes away from the city of Victoria, spread between the picturesque Lunzjata Valley, the green hills of 'tal-Mixta, Ghar Ilma', 'ta' Dbiegi', and stretching up to the Pond of San Rafflu and Xlendi cliffs. Our village has the most beautiful landscapes on the Island of Gozo and Malta. The area is one of Gozo's best for country walks and hill cycling and could connect to the villages of Santa Lucia and San Lawrence or directly to Dwejra Bay where numerous films were shot for the picturesque views. Our village boasts of having some of the best bakeries on the island. Nearby, in Victoria, are numerous restaurants and cafes, markets, and plenty of shops to choose from. Numerous supermarkets, excellent wine and spirit shops, ground coffee shop with many spices and herbs, a butcher, and many other shops in and around our village. For those who prefer an easy life, vegetables, bread, fish, soft drinks and many other mobile shop-sellers, actually drive through the streets selling their products right outside our door. Alternatively order at the supermarkets by telephone and have your shopping delivered to your home.
OUR BEAUTIFUL ISLAND: The beautiful island of Gozo has a coastline of 43 km, 14 kms long & 7 kms wide. A tiny area of 67 square kms. The Maltese call Gozo Ghawdex ( pronounced Awdesh ). This is a derivation of other older names such as Gaulos. Gozo is popularly called The Island of Calypso, which originates from the Greek mythological location of Ogygia referred to in Homer's Odyssey. In this epic poem, the fabled island was controlled by the nymph Calypso, who had detained the Greek hero Odysseus for seven long years as prisoner of love. Romantics love this island not just for its beauty & hospitality of its people, but also because of its remoteness and tranquility. One can go to various places and find oneself totally mystified by the seclusion and quietness. Being a small island, it is not difficult to explore the whole island in just a few days. It is one of those very few places on earth where existence itself is pure indulgence and enjoyment! May you have a wonderful holiday in Gozo!
