Lovely rural retreat

  • 3 of 5
My husband and I stayed in the smallest of the three gites in this peaceful location. The gites have been converted and renovated to a very high standard and are a welcome cool retreat when the weather is very hot. The interior was clean and well-maintained. The owners are very welcoming and are always on hand for a friendly chat or advice. The gites and pool area are surrounded by farmland and vineyards and it is possible to have some pleasant walks with very little traffic. There are no shops or restaurants very close by so you do need your own transport. It is possible to drive approximately 5 mins to the Canal du Midi and you can enjoy a walk along its banks into Carcassonne (it's about an hour's walk). The old city has plenty of good restaurants. There is a good baker, supermarket and other retail outlets within a 10-minute drive of the gites.

Owner's Response: We are happy you had a wonderful stay and appreciate the nice comments. As is mentioned, one does need a car not only for all the necessities for a self-catering holiday but simply to go out and explore and fully appreciate what is on offer in this beautiful rural area of France.

Great Home Base

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I stayed at this lovely renovated winery for a week in June. We found it to be a great home base for our tour around the Languedoc-Roussillon region.
The apartment itself is the smallest of 3 but plenty of space for a couple. The bed was very comfortable and the shower was fantastic. These are 2 musts we have in a rental and we were not disappointed.
They have 2 other larger apartments as well that we quickly viewed while we were there. They are spacious and have the same charm.
Jean-Noel & Agathe also live on the property and are very hands on. They were fantastic for suggestions on what to see, where to eat (you must go to A la Prise d'Alzeau!!) and wine suggestions.
You are a 10 minute drive from the interstate so its a great way to stay in the country with all the space and pool but you have the option to get somewhere fast.
They have a washing machine in the unit and a clothes line so there is not a need to pack heavy.
Make sure you pack a shopping bag for the Intermarche. you will need it for groceries.
We would definitely recommend this apartment and we would stay there again. We had a fabulous time!

Beautiful gite ideally located

  • 5 of 5
This is a lovely holiday rental for those wanting to visit the Carcassonne and surrounding area. The gite is beautifully renovated, clean, very quiet and has all the facilities you need including an excellent bbq and relaxing pool area.

The owners are charming and very helpful, I would recommend taking advantage of their knowledge about local wine.

I couldn't decide whether to stay inside Le Cite or outside and I am so glad we chose this option as Le Cite itself can be very crowded even out of season and there are so many other lovely places to visit from this ideal location, eg we really enjoyed the shopping and restuarants in Toulouse. I would definitely recommend a sat nav for the hire car so you can take the scenic routes to visit places.

In terms of food shopping the Intermarche has everything you could want and the fresh produce (as you would expect) is amazing. The Bakery on the main road (near the bank) before you pull into the Intermarche is amazing, I had the best ham roll I have ever had there. We also had bread from the Intermarche which to be fair was also very good.

We will certainly be planning to go back again.

La Caleche Gite at Domaine de Cure

  • 5 of 5
We found the gite absolutely immaculate with all the necessary facilities and more besides.
Agathe and Jean-Noel are the perfect hosts making you feel very welcome and giving tips on places to visit. The pool is wonderful and very welcoming especially after busy days sightseeing!
Carcassone which is only 10 minutes awaay by car is a beatiful city, both the old and the new. The canal du midi boat trips are enjoyable too.
A lovely local restaurant is on the lock at Herminis just outside Carcassone.
All in all a brilliant find!

A wonderful week at Domaine de Cure

  • 5 of 5
Our stay at Domaine de Cure was our first self-catering holiday experience and one we enjoyed immensely. Since we were the first guests to arrive we had the opportunity to tour the three gites all of which were immaculate, beautifully decorated and very well-equipped. We stayed in La Caleche which was perfect for a couple. The property is fantastic with wonderful views over the neighbouring vineyards which we enjoyed from the pool after our daily excursions. The barbecue and garden were an added bonus. The location provides easy access to numerous historic sites including the amazing Carcassone fort. A supermarket, bakery, etc are just a short drive away.

Jean-Noel and Agatha are warm and welcoming hosts with whom we enjoyed conversation…and wine! Take advantage of Jean-Noel’s wine inventory. The selection is excellent. Our only disappointment was that we couldn’t bring it all back to Canada with us.

Overall, a wonderful holiday in a beautiful location. We highly recommend la Domaine de Cure.

Perfect honeymoon!

  • 5 of 5
We stayed at the gite for our honeymoon this summer. It was a really incredible place with stunning views and a great location.

The gite itself was very clean and tidy. The facilities on offer were excellent and definitely more than sufficient for your typical self-catering holiday. The communal pool was extremely clean and very private - most of the time we had it to ourselves! Jean Noel & Agatha were the most friendly people you could ever wish to meet - they're very happy to sit and chat or leave you on your own.

The location itself was very quiet and tranquil. However, you were only a 10 minute drive from Carcassonne (with it's historical citadel and the necessary supermarkets!) and a 20 minute drive from Carcassonne Airport.

Couldn't recommend it enough - we had a fantastic time and will be sure to visit again in the future.
