Set in a dramatic hillside position with wonderful panoramic views, Ceppatelli is 10 miles from the centre of Lucca, within easy reach of Pisa, Florence, Siena & the sea. The town of San Martino in Freddana is a 5 minutes drive offering local food shops, supermarket, post office, chemist, bank, bars & restaurants. Lucca itself is a beautiful medieval city of great charm and historical interest, with everything you could want from cultural sights to good shops & restaurants. Puccini was born there and daily recitals of his music take place in a 12th century basilica; there's also an open air festival of his operas throughout July & August at Torre Del Lago some 13 miles distant. In the hills above Lucca are some important 16th & 17th century villas with beautiful gardens well worth seeing. The elegant sandy beaches of the Versilian Coast are easily accessible within 30 mins drive, including Viarreggio, Forte Dei Marmi & Lido di Camaiore. Viareggio also has a port with boat trips to Lerici and the famous Cinque Terre villages. Pisa and Florence with all their sights are 40 and 90 minutes drive respectively. Other places of interest are the town of Vinci, Leonardo’s birthplace west of Florence; the ancient towns of the mountainous Garfagnana region including Barga & Castelnuovo; and the spas at Montecatini & Bagni di Lucca. Further afield, day trips to Siena, San Gimignano, Volterra & Arezzo make rewarding excursions. The house is surrounded by excellent walking country, and you can devise gentle or demanding trails straight from the house. Tennis, cycling, horse-riding and golf are all available in the area.
