La Moulinal is a superb property we love to share with you. It has two tastefully restored 18th century houses (60 yards in between guarantee privacy), in an idyllic park of 4.4acres. The houses combine authenticity with all modern comfort and their ancient thick walls will guarantee a cool refuge during the summer heat! A covered terrace, as an extension of each of the houses, allows to eat outside, even during the hottest days or even on a rainy day. There is a large swimming pool (6*12m) on site with anti-drowning alarm and surrounded by a large sunny terrace. There is a volley-ball court, ping-pong table,soccer field and plenty of outside space. Reading a book or sipping a glass of wine under one of the old trees is a delight. Close-by it's possible to play golf, ride horses, cycle, do a boating trip etc. The medieval town of Castillonès is only 4km away (supermarket). Can accommodate 4-6 persons and is a charming and authentically renovated 140 m2 stone farmhouse in pigeonnier style, with lovely wooden ceilings, charming terracotta floors, authentic fireplaces with stoves, and a breath-taking 55 m2 living room! There is also a fully equipped kitchen. Kitchen equipment includes dishwasher, fridge, freezer, microwave, cooker, oven, watercooler, coffeemaker, washing machine. There are 2 spacious bedrooms (the first (25m2) has 1 double bed, the second (15 m2) has 2 single beds) and a lovely mezzanine (with 1 double bed), 2 en-suite bathrooms and 2 toilets. Baby bed and chair available. Bed- and bath linen included (except for the swimming pool). Outside there is a covered terrace, ample garden furniture and a barbecue. For those who like sports, on-site there is the large shared swimming pool (6m*12m) with anti-drowning alarm, a volley-ball court, a ping-pong table and a soccer field.

With the beautiful medieval 'bastides', castles (Biron, Monbazillac, Bonaguil, Fumel), numerous footpaths, calm cycle paths, more than 200 km of navigable waterways, several outstanding golf facilities (18 holes), the markets every day of the week and festivals all summer long, this department is truly an ideal holiday destination. Prunes from Agen, tomatoes from Marmande, wine from Bergerac or Monbazillac, foie gras, melons,...these are some of the delicate flavours of the local farm produce. Surroundings: La Moulinal is located in Lougratte, a small village of 400 inhabitants, in the northern part of the department of Lot-et- Garonne (47), between Bergerac and Villeneuve-sur-Lot, and less than 30 minutes driving from either town. The distance to Bergerac airport (with regular flights form Ryanair and FlyBe) is only 20 km! This region is an ideal holiday location with a wealth of cultural history, a diversity of interesting sites, numerous footpaths, several hundred km of navigable waterways and many other attractions. Strong recommendations in the close vicinity ( 30 km) are the castle of Monbazillac, the abbey of Cadouin and the medieval towns of Issigeac (10 km), Monflanquin (15 km) and Monpazier (25 km).

Activities: In order to help digest the fabulous food and wines from the region, many sport activities are on offer. Hiking, cycling and mountain-biking, can be complemented with horse-back riding or playing golf on the magnificent 18 hole championship course in the vicinity ( 15 km).

Romantic and child friendly getaway!

On our arrival, we have been surprised with a warm welcome, getting a guided tour of the property where all necessary information was provided about the utilities, regional markets and activities, emergencies etc. The house was very neat and the kitchen well equipped with all comfort. The master bed room was so romantic. I felt at home very quickly.
The area has 2 rental houses, but the location, as well as the distance between both gave us enough privacy. The swimming pool is large enough for 2 families. In our case, the other family had children of similar ages which increased the communalities among us.

The children discovered every time again another spot where they could play! They loved the freedom in the big garden and used all opportunities to do sports in the nice swimming pool, ping-pong, soccer, volley, building camps,…I was happy to have some sports wear in the suitcase besides the slippers! Our daughter did for the first time some horse back riding in the neighbourhood. She still talks about the walk in the hills with her “Filou” and coach.

Although the temperatures climbed above 30°C outside, it remained fresh inside the house during the 2 weeks we stayed, allowing the family to sleep well and being active the whole day long. Being in the countryside, I was glad that provisions were taken to keep noisy insects outside in a safe way.
I certainly enjoyed the local markets in the morning. Every day you can visit another village in the neighbourhood and combine it with some shopping of fresh vegetables and sunny fruits. You can even visit these by foot, if you like walking and are not afraid of getting up before the sun rises too high. As we like cooking, we mainly prepared our own lunch and dinner. But during the weekend we went out for one of the nice restaurants in the village Castillonès. Sitting under a big tree with a nice glass of local wine, tasting the specialties of the region and having the children play in the surroundings, made us really feel like king in France .

We have booked again this summer and hope for sunny weather that will make our holidays succeed again!

Our Family Holiday in

We are a family with three children, ages 4, 9 and 12. We rented both properties for one week in July.We flew into Bergerac airport, which we found to be very convenient and rented a car. We stayed very comfortably in the "Maison d'Isabel", whilst two Grandparents and two other children (cousins to our own) stayed in the "Maison d'amis". We had plenty of space to ourselves, but were able to eat together at lunchtime and in the evenings, which was perfect. These two pretty properties would be ideal for two families to vacation in together, as they afford privacy for each family but are still close enough for the children to run between the two. There is an abundance of space surrounding the two properties, which is very restful and peaceful- nothing to disturb the view except the cows in the next field! The children very much enjoyed the pool, which is a good size. I found it a little bit cold, but enjoyed lounging around it! Although we (thankfully) did not spend a lot of time inside , we found both properties to be very comfortable. The beds were very comfortable and we slept very well. We prepared quite a few meals and found both kitchens to be adequately equipped
We very much enjoyed the surrounding area- the village of Castillones provided us with a couple of good restaurants when we didn't want to cook, and we enjoyed playing tennis on the local courts! One of the best features of the region are the local markets, which sell wonderful local produce (absolutely delicious!). This is a great location for anybody, like myself, who appreciates good food and wine! We also enjoyed sightseeing at many of the local "bastide" towns, chateaux etc. There is plenty to do in both the local and wider area, even though I would have been more than happy just to sit by the pool and relax in the beautiful surroundings of La Moulinal. I would recommend this property to anybody looking for a relaxing holiday in peaceful surroundings.

The house and setting are stunning. The layout and size of the house was perfect for two adults and two children (we could have easily had one or two more with us!).
The furniture and fit-out of the house was a little poor however. The kitchen could have been better equipped. In such an area with wonderful local produce one expects your guests will cook, so provide proper cooking utensils - and a couple of decent wine glasses.
The managers of the property were lovely people, and came quickly when we needed a tiny thing sorted. The pool was gorgeous, through the temperature a bit cold. I felt the pool should have a fence around it, as the alarm system is cumbersome, and keeps re-setting while at the pool, meaning when you go in again you set it off, disturbing your neighbours!

We loved the region and hope to spend many more years exploring the bastides, and beautiful countryside of this part of France.

Fantastic place!!

My husband and I spent 2 wonderful weeks at Lamoulinal in Sept 2007. We fell in love with the beautiful region with its rolling hills and old 'bastides', vinyards and weekly markets in every village for fresh fruit and vegetables. Driving into the driveway which leads to the house, we knew that this holiday would be perfect: the peacefulness and beauty of this place are beyond words. The house is decorated very tastefully, the kitchen is very well equiped (I even did some baking). Thanks, Eric and Isabel, for un unforgettable stay! We will be back!!
