About meal...: Upon request, it is possible to prepared Tuscany dishes, carefully cooked by Lady Mina. The dishes are those of the ancient Tuscan tradition such as Pappa al Pomodoro (a soup-like dish prepared with bread and tomatoes), Ribollita (a potpourri of local vegetables and bread, simmered for hours and hours), and Tripe with tomato sauce (a very typical Florentine dish).

The History: The villa was built in the XVII century. At the beginning of the '900 the Berni's family bought the villa for the summer holiday in the Florentine countryside. The villa has been lovingly and elegantly restored at the begging of the 2007 with traditional taste and contemporary comfort. We work to assure that our villa will be your home away from home and visit Florence as only a Florentine person can do

Alessandro Berni purchased this villa in 1900

Why Alessandro Berni chose Gavinana - Galluzzo

Villa Berni is my grandfather villa, I fully restored the villa in the 2007 year with every amenity and comfort. The location is great! Infact the villa is near the five Tuscany Unesco heritage sites: 1.Historic centre of Florence (10-15 minutes away from the property by car). 2.Historic centre of Siena (45 minutes away from the property by car); 3.Piazza del Duomo of Pisa (50 minutes away from the property by car); 4.Historic centre of Lucca (60 minutes away from the property by car); 5.Towers of Sangiminiano (30 minutes away from the property by car).

What makes this villa unique

The villa has inside the unique sign of its historic origin and the comfort of a modern one. From the tower of the villa you can have a wonderfull sightsee of the hitoric city centre of Florence. The garden is a unique and real florentine garden style.

The Dream Wedding

  • 5 of 5

You always hope that the pictures are what you see when you get there. You always hope the reviews are not paid for, and are accurate. You always wonder, "is it going to be what it seems?" I'm here to tell you, that this place is more than it seems. The process of booking it was easy. They don't take credit cards so you have to wire a deposit which was no problem, but bring cash with you! I had the hardest time getting enough to cover it when I got there. You just can't walk into a bank and pull it out! lol I expected to buy travelers checks from AmEx when I got there, but there is not an office in Florence. Ugh. The people were nice and patient while I worked it out however. Now, on to the Villa. Beautiful. We had 13 people there and it was plenty of room. The rooms were comfortable and large. Cute kitchen with all that you would need. The courtyard is beautiful and peaceful. We rented a few cars, which I would suggest, but the bus stop is a 15 minute walk and is the easiest way to get to Florence. Walking back up the hill is another story, hence the cars! Annie and I were married there. They helped us in every way. They made us a homemade dinner for the night before, made us an amazing homemade lunch for the day of, treated us with kindness and even arranged other transportation for us the night of the wedding. They provide amazing wines for a great price, and we drank them all! Annie and I and our guests could not have asked for a more beautiful place to be married. We were so happy. We will never forget the kindness of the people, and the beauty of the surroundings during the happiest week of our life. It would be impossible for me to recommend Villa Berni more Highly. Thank you thank you thank you to the family. You will always have a special place in our hearts.

Owner's Response: I thank Mike and Anne for your kindness. We were very honorated to help them to have their dream wedding. About the payment method, if our guests don't want to pay by cash, they can pay their balance by bank transfer and, from the last month, by PayPal account with a little extra fee too.

Best ever vacation in Italy!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Villa Berni for three weeks in October, 2014. We were three couples, all senior travelers. The listing is quite accurate and tho photos true to the villa features. The rooms are very large, making it easy for us to spend time apart when we were “at home.” The villa was extremely clean with a well equipped kitchen that we used daily and a very nice brick fireplace barbeque in the garden. The walled garden was especially peaceful, populated by four amusing land tortoises, and on Sundays we heard the bells peel from all directions. The bedrooms upstairs all overlook the garden, and the bathrooms were roomy and well appointed. Beds were very comfortable, and the villa was very quiet, even in the daytime.

We were so happy we had hired Marco Berni to drive us for our entire stay. It made our days easy and fun, as we had no worries about routing or parking, and as we explored Chianti, we all could enjoy the beautiful Italian countryside. We scheduled daily outings with him a day ahead, and he would advise if bookings were needed, sometimes making the booking for us. He was very flexible about our schedule, which could change as the day progressed. On occasion we did not go together, and he was quite accommodating of our different needs. He knew the area well and could easily navigate the narrow roads and tricky intersections. We would highly recommend Marco to anyone staying at the villa, since you have no worries about transportation and can concentrate solely on enjoying your visit.

Highly recommend having a cell phone during your visit. (Marco can take to you buy one locally.) It helps coordinating with Marco, as you do not have to designate a fixed pick-up time when you’re, i.e. exploring Siena. When you’re ready to be picked up, just “call Marco.”

The hilltop location of the villa was close enough to Florence center and still within an hour or less of surrounding cities of Pisa, Lucca, Sienna, San Gimignano, and Grieve in Chianti. Our drive to and from the villa on the winding, one lane country road to the main road in the village below was a daily delight.

We certainly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend this villa to others.

A Truly Wonderful Place

  • 5 of 5

Villa Berni is everything I imagined it to be and more. It's beautiful and comfortable. The courtyard provides a lovely spot to relax after a day of sightseeing and to enjoy the weather. The bedrooms are large, and the beds are very comfortable. It's easy to get the bus into Florence and there are good restaurants nearby. We had a meal prepared by Mina and it was delicious. We also had a meal prepared by Chef Jacopo and it was outstanding. It was very easy to make arrangements to rent the villa and Alessandro was helpful and fully answered all my questions. We had a great time and I heartily recommend Villa Berni to one and all.

A Jewel With a View Over Firenze

  • 5 of 5

What a great experience!!

A group of friends and I stayed at Villa Berni for 2 weeks, June 14-28, 2014.

The Villa was beyond expectations and The Berni Family was so welcoming and helpful, making for an amazing holiday.

The property is so well situated for day trips throughout Tuscany and sightseeing in Florence and area. We hired Marco Berni's driving service, and what a stress free decision that was. No rental cars, no train schedules or wasting time getting lost trying to navigate the highways and back roads. Marco knows Tuscany very well and took us from as far as Montalcino in the south to the Cinque Terre in the north. The countryside is so beautiful, it was nice after touring many beautiful medieval hill towns, to sit back in air conditioned comfort and take in the scenery. I would highly recommend this option.

The bedrooms were beautifully decorated and very comfortable, the modern bathrooms were spotless and very large. The kitchen has everything necessary for creating amazing Tuscan meals, a gas stove and oven, dishwasher, microwave as well as the BBQ which we used often. We also had 2 meals prepared by Mamma Mina, served in the enormous dining room, that were some of the best meals of the entire trip!

The Florentine garden at the villa is an absolute oasis! We had our breakfasts out there every morning before going out for the day, and some gorgeous evenings under the stars watching the fireflies bob around the rose bushes and citrus trees.

Will definitely be back!

Great couples destination

  • 4 of 5

We loved our stay at this Tuscan villa. Great location near Florence. The owner's brother drove us to the walled villages like Lucca and Sienna as well as into Florence and to the train station and airport as needed. He was so nice and helpful. The villa had everything we needed, kitchen was small but we managed to cook a few meals and the owner even organized a fabulous chef to come cook for us a few nights. The garden courtyard was beautiful and perfect for evening meals, just keep quiet because the neighbors are very close by ;-)

Owner's Response: The private garden of the villa is 1000 squared metres! During the evening you can have dinner outside in the quiteness of the garden. The neighbors are not very close because the garden are very big (more than 1000 squared metres) and there are trees hedges from the other gardens. Moreover our garden is at upper level from the gardens of our neighbors, so the privacy is the strogest point of our garden......maybe if 12 young persons are shouting in the middle of the night someone can hear them ;-)

Home Away from Home

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Villa Berni for two weeks from June 23-July 7, 2012. There were 8 of us one week and 6 the next. The listing was very accurate. The villa was extremely clean with very large rooms, a well maintained kitchen and a nice courtyard to sit and visit. It had been nicely renovated but still had a historical feeling to it. We found everything we needed there (enjoyed having a safe) and even had a bar-b-que one night.

During our stay we hired Marco, a brother in the family, to drive us daily. He had a very comfortable 8 passenger van. Marco was knowledgeable about the area, polite, a great driver and extremely flexible with our comings/goings. We would recommend this to anyone staying at the villa. It made our trip even more memorable as we did not have to worry about travel routes and parking.

Enrico, another brother, had perfect English and was able to answer our questions and give us suggestions about day trips (wine tours, meals out in the area, trains to Venice etc.)

The location of the villa to Florence was perfect, 15 minutes by car and still central enough to see the surrounding cities of Pisa, Lucca, Sienna, Lucignano, San Gimignano, and Grieve in Chianti.

We certainly enjoyed our stay and the friendliness of the family and would highly recommend renting this villa.
