Barn Cottage is set in beautiful countryside on the very edge of the high moor, 3 miles from Chagford, ½ a miles walk from Fernworthy Reservior (trout fishing and birdwatching) and forest. Chagford is one of the liveliest, friendliest, most popular and attractive large villages in Devon. There is nowhere quite like it. The beautiful cottage the last outpost before the moor stretches unpopulated for 12 miles west. The cottage looks straight on fields, beech trees and the moor, with its own, private patio (with furniture) and private garden with lawn. It is 'upside down' and split level.

Chagford, one of the liveliest, friendliest, most popular and attractive towns in Devon. Well away from any main roads. Pubs and excellent shops around its square; mostly old buildings; all in the shelter of Dartmoor. Past it the river Teign (salmon & trout fishing), hurries through woods and meadows. Many National Trust estates and Tors to explore, activities and walks to be had out on the moors and surrounding areas. Superb for walks, mountain bike and horse riding. Children's playground and outside swimming pool (summer only).

    Dogs are welcome at £30 per week.

    50% payment required as confirmation of booking. Remaining 50% payable six weeks in advance of holiday. Additional £100 deposit cheque held to cover possible damage during stay - only cashed if needed. Guests must have their own insurance which would cover any more significant damage to the property.

    Unless agreed before hand, arrival time is 4pm, checking out time is 10.00am.

    Change over days for weekly stays is Friday.

Wonderful warm welcome, lovely brownies! We didn't use the cars for 4 days as we could step out directly onto the moors from the cottage and take lots of different walks. John was a fantastic cook for us too!

A magical moorland break

We just returned from a wonderful week at Barn Cottage. It is beautifully situated on the edge of one of the loveliest parts of Dartmoor, with imposing tors as well as hut circles, stone rows and stone circles all within reasonable walking distance. But it is also convenient for woodland walks along the beautiful Teign river or beside the lovely lakeside of Fernworthy reservoir. And one of the most charming of Dartmoor's towns, Chagford, is just a few minutes drive away! A perfect cottage, cosy, pretty and well-equipped, in a perfect location.
