SPACIOUS SWISS ALPINE HOLIDAY FLAT IN LEYSIN WITH SPA AND SPECTACULAR VIEWS

Leysin Apartment Rental Photos and Description

Sunny apartment, 2 bdrms, l.r., kitchen, balcony, sleeps 4, spa/pool, parking

Our south facing Leysin apartment is located at the heart of a beautiful and restorative Alpine environment, and is an ideal SKI and HIKING APARTMENT, situated in this popular Swiss resort, with its great facilities, pistes for all abilities, and no crowds and no queues.

Our apartment is spacious, modern but with traditional detailing, and offers 2 twin bedrooms and well equipped kitchen, each opening onto a large balcony with spectacular mountain views, a self contained living room with a very comfortable, new, easy to use sofa-bed which sleeps two, and a round wood dining table for six, bathroom and additional toilet. It is located in a modernised 19th century building of character and 'Haut Standing' (luxury), offering the use of a spa, with pool, sauna and jacuzzi, open 'til 10 at night; and with an allocated secure indoor parking place. Our moderate rental rates offer very good value and make a Swiss Alpine holiday an affordable luxury. Our Leysin apartment sleeps four to six people very comfortably, and is well suited to holiday makers, as well as those wishing to spend a longer time in this special environment.

The sun filled accommodation is light and airy, with breathtaking panoramic views from every room. Attractively furnished and fitted, it is comfortable and cosy, made to feel like a home from home. It is located only a two minute walk from the centre of this authentic and characterful mountain village - a popular tourist resort, kept lively all year round by its local inhabitants and the many young people attending the international schools. Therefore, Leysin is suitable for an energetic or relaxing stay any time of year. The apartment is convenient for all the village amenities, the free village bus and the train.

We provide satellite TV (lots of stations in many languages) and a DVD player. Optional Internet access is offered at an additional charge.

The village has all the shops and services you would expect, supermarkets, banks, ski-hire shops, ski school, mountaineering school, restaurants, two sports centres (one with pool, squash and tennis courts, the other with tournament sized skating rink), mini-golf, horse riding, paragliding.

Our holiday apartment is easily reached by car in 20 minutes from the Rhone valley, 1hour 20minutes (126kms) from Geneva Airport. Alternatively, by train to Aigle, change to the cog wheel train to Leysin (20 spectacular minutes).

For winter sports Leysin is part of the Canton Vaud ski domain, with a cable car to the Berneuse and chair lifts to its 60kms of pistes, where snowboarding is very popular. There are virtually no queues, and great off piste skiing, as well as cross country tracks and well marked snow-shoe walking trails, and a big tobboganing park and an ice restaurant serving fondue and raclette. (For more details see under 'Location')

Hiking around Leysin: This area offers a network of signed walking routes for all hiking abilities, via Ferrata, and rock climbing.

Mountain Bike routes: Newly created, there are two tracks for racing down the mountain at breakneck speed, or you can use the farming roads and forest tracks, of which there are many.

Leysin can be a base for tours by train or by car, as much of Switzerland is easily accessible in a day-trip, and France is a forty minutes' drive away. Start with the Aigle chateau and museum of wine, visits to classy villages such as Gstaad, Verbier or Crans Montana an hour's drive away, whilst Lake Geneva (Le Lac Leman) is a half hour away by car, for swimming, walking, vineyard tours, historical towns and villages, the Castle of Chillon, boats and steamers. (see more under 'location')

The region offers a wide choice of activities, but our holiday apartment in Leysin is equally attractive as a place to just relax and enjoy the local area.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Leysin - the apartment was perfect, with a fantastic view to start the day. Also the weather was very kind to us - great snow for 3 days, then sunshine for the remainder of the week.

We love hiking and skiing and have a passion for mountains. Leysin is so relaxing and enervating, and we would like others to enjoy our home in the Alps as much as we do, the wonderful scenery, the great local wine and cheese, and the excellent sporting opportunities available in the area. For us, Leysin is a very special place, to come away from feeling recharged and happy.

Gabriella Klein purchased this apartment in 2003

Its sunny position and spectacular views, its many wood features, the spa facilities, centrally located. In a 19thC building, the conversion is of a very high standard - the combination of space and quality is just so very Swiss. We have a secure indoor parking space, and the spa is a facility we love using frequently, especially after a day on the slopes or hiking.

We love Leysin not only for its stunning location, but for its wealth of sporting possibilities, its varied architecture and cosmopolitan, international ambience. And, it is so quick and easy to reach Leysin - just 1 hour and 20 minutes from Geneva airport by car, or two hours by train.

Leysin could not be a friendlier place. Everyone says bonjour and it warms your heart.

The apartment is always warm and filled with light, has a big balcony, a living room with a door, and a self-contained kitchen! The spa is open 'til 10pm, with a pool and power stream option, a sauna and cold plunge pool, and a jacuzzi. The building is secure and locked at night. The TV provides hundreds of stations and there is a DVD player.

Spacious flat 2 bedrooms in Leysin, Switzerland

  • 5 of 5
Large appartment (2 bedrooms), large living room, largely enough for 2 couples :-). 30 meters from a small supermarket, very beautiful views.
The appartment is very clean and no vis-à-vis :-), the spa large enough, and 5 minutes away from good restaurants.
Overal better than expected.

Clean, large and well equipped apartment.

The Apartment
A very large apartment compared to others in Swiss resorts which includes a large balcony and fabulous views. Plenty of room for 4 (or 6). Immaculately clean on arrival and plenty of bedding, towels, etc.

The apartment block is dated but again, immaculate. The concierge is on-site a few days a week and is very helpful. The resort was very quite wc 5 Jan and the kids had the ("spooky") basement pool to themselves every day. There are ski racks in the secure-entry garage and storage rooms for boots and sledges.

I didn't realise we had to pay the rental and deposit in cash, very surprising nowadays, but the staff were very accommodating and let me pay the balance on the Monday - much appreciated.

A few niggles - we couldn't figure out how to convert the sofa bed and the DVD player didn't work unless it was connected directly with the tv. Neither was important so we didn't pursue. Overall a great, well equipped apartment.

The Resort
We spent two weeks in Leysin so got to know it quite well.

Resort Cons
Novice skiing - much better off in Col des Mosses with it's wide pistes.
Tricky piste bottleneck at the ski lift - lots of faults/crashes, including us.
Public transport - very limited.
Expensive - but cheap by Swiss standards.

Resort Pros
The people - couldn't be more helpful, despite our rubbish attempt at French.
The views - stunning.
The toboganning park - a great laugh
Free ski bus every hour
Hefti sports - efficient and helpful. They replaced our bent ski poles with no quibbles.
The weather - skiing in 13 degree sunshine. It doesn't get any better.

Car: not necessary

Leysin is a lively village high up in the Alps Vaudoises, with supermarkets, post office, speciality shops, banks, restaurants and internet cafes, the free village bus, Post Bus, and excellent sport venues; with ski lifts and cable car to the Berneuse, where the Kuklos turning restaurant offers far reaching views. Great skiing, snowboarding and cross-country skiing, links with the Diablerets 3000, Les Mosses and Villars ski areas. With numerous hiking trails for all abilities, rock climbing, 2 Via Ferrata, mountain biking routes, a huge ice-skating rink, indoor public pool, squash and tennis courts, tobogganing, horse riding, paragliding - it is truly a sporting haven.

Ski: Leave the queues elsewhere and enjoy all day on the pistes, in this Domain of the Vaud Canton, Switzerlands best kept secret!!! Leysin has ski facilities to suit all abilities, including excellent off-piste possibilities. It is linked with the Les Mosses and Diablerets 3000 resorts via shuttle bus, and from there to those of Villars and Gryon. The Leysin cable car to the Berneuse links with the highest point at 2,200 metres, from where there are exceptional facilities for snowboarders, including a snow park and a huge Super Pipe. The Nescafe Championships are held here in January. Queuing is kept to a minimum, enabling you to maximise your time skiing. Snow canons operate on all the main pistes where there is good grooming. The resort is mainly south facing, with spectacular panoramic views across the Rhone Valley towards the Mont Blanc range and the majestic Dents du Midi, to the west the Lake of Geneva, the Diablerets range, as well as distant views of the Bernese Oberland and Valais peaks. There are several mountain restaurants, serving local dishes, including the tasty cheeses, and fruit flans. There are also excellent cross-country skiing routes in the village, beginners slopes and snow-shoe walking routes.

Hiking around Leysin: This area offers the hiker many delights, for all hiking abilities, with peaks that are attainable at 2,300m, yet offering excitement and exhilaration. Everywhere you go there are views to die for, with the Mont Blanc, and even the Eiger, visible from many places. The 2 Via Ferrata are challenging, as are the rock faces of the Tour d'Ai and Tour Mayen. There's the Mont d'Or and Pic Chaussy to climb, several lakes high up, and several amazing limestone pavements to interest the avid geologists among us. Easier walks around Leysin leave from the village, with stunning viewpoints easily reached.

In late summer, there are edible mushroom in the forests, and in the Autumn the forests are ablaze with colour.

Mountain Bike routes: Two new tracks for racing down the mountain at breakneck speed. Otherwise, you can use the farming roads and forest tracks, of which there are many.

Touring in the region: For train lovers, the excellent rail system offers many routes locally and links with the Swiss national network. From Aigle mountain trains go to Les Diablerets and Champery, and from Bex it goes to Villars. On the main line, Martigny is not far away, where the Fondation Giannada offers world class art exhibitions from some of the best collections around the world. It also has a superb collection of period cars, all in pristine condition, and a beautiful sculpture garden. A bit further on is the historic town of Sion. The famous Golden Line leaves from Montreux, winding its dramatic way through the mountains to Interlaken.

If you prefer touring in a car, and sightseeing, you are spoilt for choice, and Leysin is only a forty minute drive into France at Saint Gingolfe. Visits to classy villages such as Gstaad, Verbier or Crans Montana require only an hour's drive. The Bex Salt Mines, a half hour drive away, offer a fascinating and unique journey into the bowels of the earth where salt was mined in earlier times. A ten minutes' drive further up the Rhone Valley brings you to St. Maurice where further underground delights await you. One is an underground lake with stalagtites and stalagmites, the other a World War II underground hospital. St. Maurice is located in a narrow pass of the Rhone through steep mountains that rise more than 3000 metres on either side. Very dramatic.

The Aquapark is at Le Bouveret by the lake, Gruyeres is an hour's drive, and the Broc chocolate museum is near there. Lausanne has the Olympics museum.

These are just a small sample of the things you can see nearby.
