Funchal Panoramica is a spacious modern luxury penthouse apartment set in a residential area above the City Hospital. It occupies half the top floor of the building with a beautiful south facing aspect and stunning views of the sea and hills that surround Funchal.

The apartment is self-contained and well appointed throughout. Internal access is by lift from the underground car park. The accommodation consists of one double bedroom with en-suite bathroom and small balcony, a second double bedroom with adjacent shower room and toilet, a kitchen and utility room, an entrance hall and a spacious living and dining room.

All rooms are furnished and equipped to a high standard, the living space is surrounded by floor to ceiling sliding glass panels which allow natural light to enter the space whilst at the same time offering spectacular views. There is access to a large private outdoor terrace which is equipped with a table and chairs and sun loungers.

The apartment is located in a central position above the City Hospital with an ocean view that offers sightings of fishing boats and cruise ships as they sail in and out of the harbour. The open aspect of the terrace is a great platform not only for sun bathing and relaxed dining, but also to enjoy the night sky and especially the spectacular fireworks display staged every New Year’s Eve in Funchal harbour and surrounding hillsides.

It is ideally situated for the road system in and around Funchal with easy access to and from the expressways which connect to the west of the Island and also to the eastern parts, including the airport which is only twenty minutes away.

Access by car to the Marina, the City centre and Old Town is just five minutes as is the Madeira Shopping complex and The Promenade which runs along in front of the major hotels.

The bus stop for access to the city centre is on the door step and walking down into town is a pleasure.

There is easy access to the island's road system via the express-ways connecting to all parts of the Island, including the airport which is only twenty minutes away.

Access by car to the City is five minutes and there is a bus stop on the door step. Walking into town is a pleasurable twenty minute downhill stroll, however, the return is mostly uphill and best left to a bus or taxi.

The area is well served with local shops and bars, the local branch of ‘Frutas & Legumes’ shop will reveal a stunning selection of the freshest fruit & vegetables on offer anywhere, in addition they now have a fresh meat counter and a general grocery range, including wines and beers.

Notes: The penthouse is located on the 4th floor, but there is good access by lift from the underground car park which has 2 reserved spaces. The indoor living space is 100m2 and the panoramic terrace is 40m2.

Met and exceeded expectations

This is an excellent property. It is accurately described in its details and the service we received from the Agents was first class.

The property is modern, thoughtfully designed and immaculately presented. The day time areas are spacious and the terrace is breath taking. The bedrooms are a little small but certainly very useable and the whole property, including the apartment block it is located in, is very well maintained. There are lifts as well as stairs and a locked underground car park to keep the car cool during the day.

The location is about a 20 minute walk (downhill) to the sea front of Funchal, restaurants and the Casino. The walk back up the hill would be quite tiring for anyone who is not reasonably fit. However car use is easy and taxis readily available.

The only reason we have not given the property an unreserved recommendation is that at the time we stayed (July 08) there were road works going on a few hundred yards away and the daytime noise was intrusive, especially on the terrace. However we probably noticed the noise more than other people might as we live in the country and the work may well be finished already - we suggest you check with the Agent.

Otherwise this is an excellent property which when we rented was at a very attractive price. Add to that the good Customer Service from the Agent and this is a highly recommended property.

Superb property

The description of the property is exactly as it is clean well furnished and equiped with everything you could need.
Tobi arranged a taxi to meet us at the airport and was at the apartment when we arrived to show us around. He had left some milk in the fridge and a bottle of wine which made us feel welcome.
There is a useful guide to the apartment and Funchal left by the owner.
The location is at the top of Funchal which gives a beautiful view but is a 20min walk downhill to the town. We caught a bus back as that is a steep walk but buses are frequent and stop close by.
Madeira is a beautiful island and we had a most enjoyable holiday.
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Tourists without a Car, Sightseeing

The views are outstanding and no photos can do them justice, the walk down into town is pleasant as it is all down hill and as you say to get back the bus service is very good with frequent buses, and taxi's are cheap as well.

Excellent place to stay

This property is well located and has amazing views down to the coast as well as up towards the hills. It is a short walk down the hill into central Funchal but is also well situated for exploring the rest of the island with easy access to the motorway.
The apartment is spotlessly clean and furnished in a modern style with everything you need, including sun loungers on the terrace! There is a very good fruit and vegetable/ small supermarket within 2 min walk where you can most things you need. There are larger shops a short drive in central Funchal.
The owner has left many walking guides and maps which we found really useful for exploring the island both on foot and by car. There is also information on good restaurants and other activites to do.
We had a fantastic holiday here and hope to stay here again in the future.
