Huge Disappointmnet

I booked this for my son and his wife for their honeymoon. However, no-one was at the Hotel/appartment, the key was left with the next-door neighbour who handed over the key (after much searching to get the telphone number of the owner) and left themn to find the appartment on their own. The appartment was cold - if fact, the hallway was warmer (i.e. outside their appartment) than the inside. The famous retaurant was closed and the owners were not due back on site until the following Saturday. This is no way to run a business - why did they accept the booking if they couldn't service it properly?
A total shambles and with no-one on site to rectify anything, my son left after one night and sought accomodation elsewhere, somewhere that was warm and had food!!
Beware - obvioulsy amateurs with no business sense whatsoever..
Owner's Response: I am sorry that things turned out this way for the guests.

I did send a letter 4 days prior arriwal telling them that I would not be on the premises, but everything was ready for them I also told them where they could get all informations they needed the next day if they were interested. Also I told them that there was no food to get that sunday on arrival.
I hade done all arrangements for them and had people here to help them and give them informations the next day if they wanted to. People here are friendly and helpful.

But like they saw, then this is a rural place and here in Norway it is common that restaurants are not open on daily bases in little places like here in Modalen.

We are open in the week-ends, this time of the year and I had thougts about inviting them for dinner cause they were on their honeymoon, but I did not get the change.

I also upgraded them to the biggest apartment with a balcony and a fjordview.

About the heating then it is very easy to turn up the radiators and it does not take a long time at all.

I am sorry that they did not give the place a change, maby they were not coming here for peace and quiet and outdoor activities- but that is the main interests for my guests that come here.

I run an apartment hotel with kitchens for people to make their own meals in and it is much about selv-catering. I do not run a Hotel with full service.
My famous restaurant is really worth a visit . But it is not possible for us to keep it open every day after september until 1 april þit simply does not work since we do not have that kind of traffic here in little Modalen. So in this period it is mostly about preordering for groups to come here.

Hope this did not ruin their stay here in Norway and that they got something more suitable for them and a pleasureable tour.

I will pay them everything back, no problem!

I would not say to anyone BEWARE this is really a beautyful place and very unique and special- but I would say that from "oktober to eastertime "it is not really the time for a visit unless you are a outdoor person and like unspoiled nature, tranquility and peace and can find your own ways around.
