Casa Della Torre is within an hour drive of Florence, Pisa and the famous seaside resort of Viareggio with its annual Puccini summer festival at Torre de Lago, a must for any opera fan. The beautiful walled city of Lucca is just over half an hour away. The hill village of Castlevechio, which this forms part of , is the central village of ten picturesque hill villages which form the Dieci Castella. All now have UNESCO World Heritage Status and should be visited. Castelvecchio itself boasts the Dieci Castella's tenth century Romanesque 'cathedral' while the village church sits above a recently discovered and restored crypt whose walls are covered with 16th century frescoes. Castelvecchio has three very good yet reasonably priced restaurants, a small shop, a post office and a bar with a view to die for. Walking within the village is a taking a step back in time with ancient fortified walls and breath taking views. Indeed walking anywhere in the Dieci Castella is highly recommended
Ski: Abetone is a small ski resort in the Apennine mountains , an hours drive from Castelvecchio. The resort covers all ranges of ability from the novice to expert. This resort has hosted Italian world champion skiers in the past.
