TRADITIONAL RUSTIC VILLAGE HOLIDAY HOUSE IN KALKARA MALTA

Vittoriosa/ Birgu House Rental Photos and Description

3 bedroomed typical Maltese house in the picturesque seaside village of Kalkara

Tucked away in a traditional quiet Maltese street is this typical rustically renovated village house in the sea creek village of Kalkara in Malta. The property is merely two minutes on foot from the beautiful seafront promenade. This self-catering holiday accommodation can sleep 4 persons (max 5 using folding bed) in two/three bedrooms. The ground floor consists of a living room with cable TV, twin bedroom and shower room. The first floor is made up of a double bedroom, single bedroom cum lounge, fully equipped kitchen, dining room, shower room, traditional Maltese timber balcony overlooking the street below and an open wrought iron balcony with side views of the Kalkara seafront promenade. There also is a cellar. The property has wooden ceiling beams throughout. The seafront promenade, bus stop, groceries, bakery, butcher, pharmacy, snack bar and take-away are all accessible within a five minutes walk from this holiday house. Car parking along the promenade is free and close by.

A 15 minute walk round the picturesque Kalkara creek will bring one to the magnificent fortified 'city' of Vittoriosa (Birgu), built by the knights of St John, with all its interesting historical features, museums, yacht marina, casino and numerous restaurants and wine bars. Swimming from rocks or from Rinella sandy beach is possible within a 15 minute walk. The rest of the island can be accessed very easily and quickly from Kalkara either by car or using the efficient public transport system. There also exists a water taxi service from Vittoriosa to Valletta.

Guestbook comments from the owner
The Kalkara house is a nice place to stay for a week. Big enough for 4 people and offering two bathrooms for a maximum of comfort ! The house is well situated next to commodities and restaurants and very close to the pretty creek of Kalkara. Kalkara is an interesting place to stay because of its quiet and authentic atmosphere and its proximity with Valletta (accessible by boat weather permitting).

We had a very nice experience and would do it again if the opportunity turns up one day!

A GREAT BASE FOR A SPLENDID HOLIDAY IN MALTA

  • 5 of 5
The town house in Kalkara was an ideal base for exploring Malta. The accommodation more than met the needs of the four adults in our party. A return bus ride into Valetta for less than £2 also opened up many possibilities. Once there, there were buses taking you to a wide and varied selection of places. If you wish to enjoy history, culture, good food, sandy beaches, the sun, a relaxed lifestyle and to meet many friendly locals, Malta is the place to be. We enjoyed eating at the local bar in Kalkara and in some of the harbour side restaurants in Bergu. And cheap, too. It makes you wonder why things are so expensive in the UK. All in all, a great holiday.

WE WILL DEFINITELY RETURN

  • 5 of 5
My wife and I and our two children have just spent a lovely week in this charming Kalkara house. This property felt more like a home and is very adequately equipped. The house was clean, owners very helpful. They met us at the airport and gave us a surprise complimentary food pack which was very welcome, as it was late. We accessed the rest of the island very easily with our hired car. The area is quiet and the village very peaceful. There is a lovely waterfront to chill out in one of the many restaurants in the nearby Vittoriosa yacht marina. Having been to Sliema and St Julians we are very glad we didn’t stay there as we originally planned to! There is too much noise, building construction, traffic, parking problems and they are overcrowded. Definitely highly recommend this Kalkara house, it is a fabulous sea creek town and ideal holiday base.

LOVELY HOUSE, FANTASTIC LOCATION

  • 4 of 5
I stayed here for a week in April, it was just what I was looking for - very traditional and away from the tourist stopped, a real traditional bit of Malta. The house is very well equipped with everything you cold need, a welcome food pack of bread, fruit cheese and ham was very welcome and a lovely touch.

Richie and his wife (owners) are very helpful and accomodating.

The location is great, walking distance to the other 'fingers' of the 3 cities, and a bus stop to Valletta 2 minutes away.

The only minor negative (and not one that can be changed, but one that people may want to be aware of) is the noise. Sound does carry up those quaint little streets and the houses are not made of materials that insulate against sound - on the first night before I got used to it I woke up thinking someone was talking in my room! Not a particular issue but worth being aware of if you want a very quiet break.

I have no hesitation in recommending this house and would happily stay again if i return to Malta,

Owner's Response: Kalkara is indeed away from the tourist traps and is such a quiet and peaceful little seaside village as opposed to the very popular tourist resorts like St Julians/Paceville and Bugibba/Qawra where noise is the order of the day with partying till the early hours of the morning.
However, It is only fair to point out that during this particular rental week, there was indeed increased activity in the street… due to the Easter activities that were being organized!!!

VITTORIOSA / BIRGU HOLIDAY HOUSE

  • 4 of 5
Stayed here in December 2011 and was very happy with the property. The owner was extremely helpful and met us at the airport (very late at night) and showed us the way (we would have never found it in the dark on our own).

The house is clean, well equipped and comfortable and in a lovely position close to the harbour in Kalkara. Lots of things to see and do within walking distance and Valetta is not far away by car or bus.

Would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others.

Kalkara is a picturesque seaside village across the harbour from Valletta. Located on a promontory flanked by two sea creeks, Kalkara Creek with its colourful fishing boats and beautiful promenade and Rinella Bay with its sandy beach. At the tip of the promontory proudly stands the grand old Royal Naval Hospital of Bighi, which today is used as an international restoration centre. A short walk round Kalkara Creek brings one to the magnificent fortified 'city' of Vittoriosa (Birgu) which was built by the Knights of St John and played a significant role in the Great Siege of Malta in 1565. Vittoriosa has several tourist attractions. The historic Vittoriosa waterfront today displays a pretty yacht marina lined with plenty of good restaurants, a casino, the national maritime museum and at its tip, standing sentinel is the magnificent Fort St Angelo. The Vittoriosa 1565 museum and the inquisitor`s palace are also must see attractions. Kalkara is serviced by an efficient bus service.
