This unique place is situated in a private property of 30ha, in the quiet village of Troviscais approximately half an hour’s drive from beautiful golden sandy beaches and close to picturesque fishing villages and beach towns such as Vila Nova de MIlfontes, Zambujeira do Mar; Porto Covo, Sines and many more.
This country cottage sleeps up to five people, ideal for families or groups of friends. Vast gardens ideal for al-fresco dining where one can sip a glass of local wine by the plunge pool in one of our garden hammocks or relax on one of the sun loungers. Also perfectly safe for children or pets to run and play.
The Southwest Alentejo and the Vicentine Coast Natural Park, where The Cerca Houses are situated, is the part of the Alentejo facing west, confined by the Atlantic Ocean. Its length with more than 100km of sea coast extends from Sines, in the north, to Burgau, in the south (Algarve). The Southwest Alentejo and the Vicentine Coast Natural Park is the best protected European coast line in terms of unique species of fauna and flora, therefore being visited by many zoologists and botanists from all over the world. Another kind of rarity are many species of birds and also otters, being the only place in Portugal and one of the last in Europe where it’s possible to find them in a sea habitat.
The beaches all along the coast are another of the big attractions, being much requested for the practice of water sports, and are considered as the best in the country.
Casas da Cerca can offer you a choice of onsite activities such as bird watching, canoeing, fishing, horse riding, cycling, and lovely walks in and around our village. How about a romantic picnic with a river view or a visit to the windmill, one of the last working flourmills in the area?
The River Mira is a 1.5km walk away from the property with lots of spectacular wildlife to experience along the way. This welcoming and somehow mysterious river can be very creative too as it was in 1965 one of the sources of inspiration of the famous “Yesterday” from the Beatles.
At Casas da Cerca we provide bicycles, fishing equipment, binoculars, picnic hampers, and bats and balls in all the houses.
The vast gardens are ideal for families with children and animals as we do accept all pets who are more than welcome to sleep with you in the house.
The picturesque Fishing village of Vila Nova de Milfontes can be reached within half an hour’s drive,
Vila Nova de Milfontes is also situated within the Natural Park. Famed for its vast golden sandy beaches one can spend relaxing days at the beach or even take advantage of various water sports. My name is Graça Jalles, I'm Portuguese and in 1998 returning home after a long period living abroad, in Macau, south of China, I've chosen to live in the Alentejo (South of Portugal).
I’ve always loved the country side and particularly this part of Portugal. Here I run a Rural Tourism, Casas da Cerca, which evolved from the reconstruction of ruins that existed in the property.
Being myself an Architect it was also a challenge and an opportunity to be able to do the reconstruction projects myself, especially because I've chosen to do it in the traditional way of building in this part of the world, the earth construction.
I’m very fond of music too having travelled around Asia in a Portuguese Folk Group.
Last, but not least, I love to meet people that really share my love for nature and the Tourism have given me that chance which I’m very grateful.
Casas da Cerca was a “meant to be” process. The first goal, being an outsider, was to find a place in the country side. Casas da Cerca was there waiting to become what it is now. Ruins reconstructed in the old traditional way of earth construction, situated in one of the most protected areas of the Natural Park and as a Rural Tourism for everybody’s enjoyment in a peaceful and controlled way.
Casas da Cerca are situated in The Southwest Alentejo and the Vicentine Coast Natural Park, in one of its most protected areas.
Casas da Cerca distance 1,5km from the Village of Troviscais. Also distance 22km from Vila Nova de Milfontes, the touristic village by the sea, from where you can have access to various beaches along the coast, 8km from the village of S. Luís, and 15km from Odemira.
Casas da Cerca are three Houses (Casa da Adega, Casa do Tanque e Casa do Pomar), situated in a peaceful place of a 30ha property, near the river Mira (15 minutes walk).
Casas da Cerca is a kind of a retreat place. You can get in touch with the silence here in a way you thought it didn’t exist anymore. It’s perfect also for outdoor events in connection with that silence.
Presently there are Summer Workshops being held at the place under the theme “The Art of Slowing Down” and as described below. For more information you can go to Casas da Cerca Web Site www.casasdacerca.com.pt

“The Art of Slowing Down” by Edward Yu
July and August 2013
“Many people make the mistake of confusing information with knowledge. They are not the same thing. Knowledge involves the interpretation of information. Knowledge involves listening.”
Rooted in the Feldenkrais Method, Bagua and Taichi, ADS involves meticulous movements explorations, performed in specific sequences in order to awaken dormant parts of your body while allowing overworked areas to rest.
Edward Yu is a Feldenkrais Practitionersm and former triathlete, currently specializing in bagua, taichi and fitness training along with stroke recovery, injury prevention and rehabilitation. He is the author of The Art of Slowing Down: A Sense-Able Approach to Running and a new book on exercise, culture and evolution to be published in 2013. In 2012 he began working with members of the US Olympic Track Team as well as principle dancers in the Portuguese National Ballet (Companhia Nacional do Bailado).
“Please pay attention not just to the words, but to the silent spaces between the words.
That’s when the shift happens.”
