About Joanna Nobile

Joanna comes from Yorkshire in the UK, has an Italian husband & a young son, who has grown up in Bagni di Lucca. She adores this area, visiting the beaches, local festivals & walking in the summer to skiing in the winter. There is always something to do as a family & here we are often spoilt for choice!

Joanna Nobile purchased this farmhouse in 2009

Why Joanna Nobile chose Bagni di Lucca

We spent months looking for our perfect home a small house for the family & then we found our farmhouse & fell in love. A two storey stone building dating back over 250 years, with over 25 acres of land. It was a wreck & came complete with abandoned cow stalls that even had the names of the cows still above the milking stations! We loved the spectacular mountain views, dotted with quaint Tuscan hill villages, the peaceful location & the pretty town of Bagni di Lucca. Many of the original features remained from its cotto ceilings, stone floors, chestnut beams, stone door frames & old farm machinery. We set about lovingly restoring it into a luxury home, after two years the house was finally renovated, furniture purchased, pool finished, our 400 olive trees, saffron and truffle groves planted, as well as the many garden areas around the house where you will find fruits, herbs and nut trees. We all now speak fluent Italian & feel very privileged to have our own corner of Tuscany our little piece of paradise!

What makes this farmhouse unique

Apart from the stunning natural beauty & tranquility of the area, staying here will give you a real Italian experience. The farmhouse is one large property with section of it being our only rental Il Fienile. This is not an area of mass tourism however for those wanting to see the famous Tuscan sights they are right on our doorstep. Most of our neighbours in the village don't speak much English, yet it doesnt stop them giving you a friendly wave and shouting Ciao as you walk by. You will see them busy throughout the year, tending their vegetable gardens, collecting their fruits, making wine & olive oil, picking mushrooms and stacking wood in their wood piles ready for the winter. Everything here revolves around the family & more often around food! There are many great local restaurants, food festivals, pizzatas & cafes to try, with authentic & reasonably priced food. It is difficult to decide which one to go to sometimes! On the other hand, barbecuing lazily on the patio with a few beers or a bottle of wine, popping in for a dip in the pool & soaking up the lovely views, isn't a bad option either!

Guestbook comments from the owner

A gem in the Tuscany hills

  • 5 of 5

We arrived after a 2day drive from the UK and were immediately struck by the location and views from the property. After an excellent night's sleep in the very comfy bed we woke and opened the shutters in the bedroom to spectacular views of the hills surrounding the property made even better by the gorgeous blue sky and sun. The property is very comfortable and has all that you need. Close to Bagni di Lucca which is a lovely town made up of small villages with excellent cafés and a cake shop! Lucca is only a 30 to 40 min drive away and is an impressive walled city. Good base for exploring Pisa, Florence and Siena. Also close to the coast if you want some beach action. Some of the smaller towns like Barga are also well worth a look, and you're on the footsteps of the Strada del Vino, a route linking the vineyards of Lucca to Monte Carlo. Jo and Antonio could not have been more welcoming, friendly and always happy to help when we quizzed them about options on what to do and where to go. They were also a godsend when medical attention was required (nothing serious, just clumsy!!), and always have their guests front of mind. In all, great property in a stunning location, looked after by a fantastic couple!!

Beautiful holiday home in a stunning area

  • 5 of 5

Pristine holiday home, perfectly proportioned and beautifully decorated. The house has fantastc views and the little pool was great for the kids. The village of Bagni di Lucca was a 10 minute drive or 50 minute walk away and it was very beautiful with great amenities. The house is 30 minutes from Lucca, which is beautiful and an hour from Pisa/Viareggio and 1.5 hours from Florence all of which were spectacular. Joanna and family were very friendly but gave us maximum privacy and the free wine was lovely, would certainly go again.

Owner's Response: Hello again and thanks for your kind review. The village of Guzzano is a quaint Tuscan mediaeval village filled with clusters of stone houses with their cotto roofs. The views from all around are as you said amazing and clients often tell us they would never tire of the views here. We are so pleased you liked the farm house meals as well as the property itself and thanks for your kind email too. Take care the Nobile family

Gorgeous rental, amazing location!

  • 5 of 5

This farmhouse rental is absolutely gorgeous, furnished and finished in excellent taste, it has a luxurious but still homely feel! Highlights include the comfortable beds, the amazing real fire, the private pool, and the handy breakfast and barbecue areas. Without doubt the best feature of the property for us was the stunning views all around, every morning the landscape looks beautiful in a new way, you will never get bored of these views! The other great feature was the location, in the two weeks that we were here we travelled easily to Pisa, Lucca, Florence, Barga and Viareggio, and enjoyed them all immensely! The villages of Bagni di Lucca itself are also charmingly picturesque, and offer great restaurants and bars! We enjoyed the pizzas of La Lira and the sea food at Da MaMos. We were here for two weeks in April and the weather was always warm, sometimes reaching the mid 20s on lovely sunny days! The hosts Jo and Tony are the nicest, friendliest guys that you could meet - We really cannot recommend this rental enough!

Owner's Response: Wow thanks for your wonderful review. We are so glad you loved the property and the area as much as we do. The restaurants nearby do serve, as you found the most delicious food and for people like yourselves wanting a drink on an evening, a taxi costs very little to and from the centre. Thanks again for your review and booking for next year, we are looking forward to seeing you all again until then take care all of you. kind regards Joanna and family

Very special spot!

  • 5 of 5

Il Fienile was gorgeous - very cosy, comfortable and modern, and in a wonderful location, just above the town, surrounded by olive trees and great panoramic views of the hills. A very special spot, ideal for our spring getaway. Highly recommended to anybody!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. Spring is a wonderful time of year to enjoy Tuscany and our property, as it is set in such lovely surroundings, with meadows filled with spring flowers and the fruit trees bursting with blossoms. The usual tourist attractions are easy to get around without the usual peak season tourist crush! Our gazebo's dripping with wisteria and rose blossoms offer great shade from the spring sunshine whilst the log fire gives extra warmth if needed in the evenings. Perfect as you found to sit around and relax with a glass of Chianti. Thanks for your kind review. Take care Joanna
