My husband and I bought our chalet in 2003. We love the mountains and wanted somewhere to enjoy everything that the mountains have to offer: skiing, snowboarding, walking, cycling, horse riding etc! We now have three small children aged 5, 4 and 2 who love coming out to Chalet Vanoise!
We love Le Praz as it is part of the wondeful three valley ski area but isn't commercialised like some of the other resorts and retains a traditional, family friendly, calm feel about it. It has some lovely restaurants and a good amount of nightlife if you want to get out and about to see live bands, watch sport at the bars etc. Chalet Vanoise is right in the centre of Le Praz easily accesible for all the amenities that Le Praz has to offer, including the ski lifts and slopes.
What we love about Chalet Vanoise is that it is a proper house with a big open fireplace. Most of the smaller two bedroomed properties in the village are apartments but ours in a small house with two floors and a wonderful balcony that surrounds the property giving lovely views of the Grand Bec and sun for most of the day (when it isn't snowing!). It is really traditional and a proper alpine property dating back many many years.
Chalet Vanoise is set in the heart of the original Courchevel village of Le Praz. The Chalet is only a 5 minute walk to the gondola that takes you up to Courchevel 1850 and beyond to 'Les Trois Vallees' (Courchevel, Meribel and Val Thorens).
Usually you can almost always ski back to Le Praz or there are regular buses from Courchevel 1850, Courchevel 1650, Courchevel 1550 and La Tania plus the gondola from Courchevel 1850.
Le Praz has several bakeries, local supermarket, several bars and restaurants (Les Perpliers, Le Bistro, Darbello, Pizzeria, The Drop Inn and others), ski hire shops, post office, church, first class butchers which sells some ready made fresh meals when you don't fancy cooking or eating out!
Whilst Courchevel is a renowned world class ski resort, there is much to do for non-skiers and summer visitors. including climbing, walking/hiking, mountain biking, cross country skiing, swimming, horse riding.
Vanoise National Park is a car drive away.
Other Activities: Fishing, cinema, climbing, cookery, hand gliding, hot air balloon, paragliding, snowmobile, snow shoeing, tobogganing
Ski: Courchevel is made up of 4 resorts: Courchevel 1850, Courchevel 1650, Courchevel 1550 and Le Praz (1300) – the numbers depicting the height of the resorts. Each resort is unique but all offer a variety of restaurants, bars, shops, ski hire and ski schools. Courchevel is part of the ‘Trois Vallees’ which is made up of Courchevel, Meribel, Val Thorens. However, it includes access to La Tania, Brides Les Bains and St Martin de Belleville.
