SEA FRONT, EXCEPTIONAL VIEWS, CHARMING AND DESIGN HOUSE, SLEEPS 5

Port-en-Bessin-Huppain House Rental Photos and Description

Ideal to visit the landing beaches, Omaha Beach, Arromanches, Bayeux

The landlady of 'La Maison sur le Quai' welcomes you in 'Un Bateau sous mon Transat', old fishermen's house located directly on the sea front in Port-en-Bessin, Normandy, on the landing beaches. In this stylish gite with charm, design and exceptional sea views, you will enjoy the sea view through the windows, from your bed and even from the shower, and the coming and going of the boats at high tide. At low tide, you can lounge on the sand in the outer harbour, at the foot of the house. Complete renovation in 2011-12, antique furniture and antique sailors’ objects mix with raw materials. New equipment and high degree of comfort. Quiet location. 2 steps away, direct sale from anglers every morning, close to all shops and restaurants, parking in front of the house, free garage and parking nearby. Ideal for 2 couples or a family with up to 5 people: 2 bedrooms (1 double and 1 triple), office, 3 bathrooms, table football. No pets.

In Normandy, in the Calvados, in the heart of the landing beaches, 10 km away from Arromanches, Bayeux and Omaha Beach (American cemetery of Colleville-sur-Mer), in a traditional fishing harbour and marina, genuine and preserved. Port-en-Bessin is particularly known for its Scallop fishing. The Bessin is a very nice region with a great historical richness (Bayeux's tapestry and Cathedral, manor-farms, castles, gardens, abbeys, landing beaches and museums, etc.). Beautiful countryside landscapes and Norman marshlands. On both sides of Port-en-Bessin, the coast allows nice walks along its long sand beaches and seaside resorts from the beginning of the century. The cultural centre of Port-en-Bessin regularly organises visits: auction, boat workshops and semaphore. Many sports...including Omaha Beach golf course on site, hikes, coastal path walks, fishing, walks on the old rigging, etc. 1h30 from the Mont Saint Michel, We fall in love with Honfleur, Deauville, Pays d'Auge, the Cotentin...

Perfect In Every Way!

  • 5 of 5
Our family of four had a FANTASTIC stay! The home is charming, and provides the perfect location for visiting the Normandy Beaches, Mont St. Michel, Bayeux, and the Pays d'Auge region. Also, Port-en-Bessin is a great place to explore with quaint restaurants, friendly people and harbor views (from almost every window in the home). Laurence is a joy to work with and even went out of her way to help us get a dinner reservation at her favorite restaurant that was completely booked for the evening. We have traveled all over the world, always renting homes, and this home is one our new favorites. Thanks, Laurence!

Idyllic Seaside Escape

  • 5 of 5
Un Bateau Sous Mon Transat is one of those places you can't believe you are lucky enough to live in, even if just for a week. The house is perfectly positioned at the port and within walking distance of everything you could need downtown (groceries, restaurants, souvenirs, fresh seafood). Trails up the bluffs leave from just down the street and you can watch the tide come in and out from the front stoop. Inside, the house is warm and welcoming, from the spacious, well-equipped kitchen to the cozy bedrooms upstairs. For our family of five with two separate couples, having the bedrooms separated in what was essentially two separate houses was perfect and offered just the right amount of privacy. Laurence couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful - she answered texts promptly and was seemingly always around when we had a question. Her advice for restaurants was perfect as well and we enjoyed several good meals (and some fabulous ice cream at a farm outside town) on her advice. You can't go wrong with any of Laurence's properties but our stay at Un Bateau was truly magical. I would return in a heartbeat.

A beautiful experience

  • 5 of 5
We had a wonderful week in Port en Bessin, possibly the highlight of our six week vacation in France. The fisherman's cottage is beautiful, authentically renovated and superbly designed. The quality of the fittings is high and it is well catered for families or couples wanting a romantic retreat. The games room was a hit with my sons and I. The location is perfect, overlooking the port it is easy to waste away hours just watching the tides come in and out whilst fishing boats cross by. Port en Bessin is a tranquil village with plenty of interesting cafés and specialty shops. Our three teenage sons and I spent hours just walking along the port walls and the cliff tops. It is located 10km or 10minutes from Bayeux which has plenty of excellent museums and shops to make it worth a number of trips. What made the stay so special however, was Laurence's hospitality. From the first introduction she was friendly and informative, ensuring that we got the most out of our stay. Throughout the week she was very helpful even helping my elderly parents to reschedule their train trip. Laurence's professionalism was evident from the first time that I made contact for our booking right to our final farewell. I would not hesitate in recommending any of her cottages in Port en Bessin or returning for another family vacation in the future.

Superb

Staying at Un Bateau sous mon Transat for a week was the best part of our Normandy experience. We visited most of the D-day landing beaches, the memorials and cemeteries, the Bayeux Tapestry, and hiked along the cliffs. It’s a beautiful region but wherever we went, we were always anxious to return to this place right on the quay in Port-en-Bessin. The village is small and peaceful, the people are friendly and helpful, and one can walk almost everywhere. There’s a fresh fish market on the quay every morning and this home is well-stocked for preparing one’s own culinary delights. (If cooking is not on your agenda, there are plenty of really good restaurants all around…and they prepare the same fresh ingredients.) For less than the price of a luxury hotel, you can enjoy a two bedroom house with a kitchen, living room, playroom, and laundry room. The owner, Laurence Berdeaux, is a very sweet and accommodating woman who pays attention to those little details that make one’s stay memorable. I can’t offer enough kudos to her and her vacation home.

Beautifully decorated D-Day location

  • 5 of 5
Laurence must have had a lot of fun decorating "Le Bateau sous Mon Transat" ("The boat beneath my deck chair") - it is full of tastefully chosen mementos of the seashore. No wonder it was featured in a design magazine.

She has cleverly taken a three storey harbour front building and transformed it into a comfortable, thoughtfully appointed vacation home. There are charming eccentricities, from the iron spiral staircase up to the master bedroom suite to the foosball table in the laundry room.. There are lots of fun kid-sized toys, if they should want to play on the beach at the front door, as well as a second-bedroom, which is reached by a more conventional staircase.

The kitchen is spacious and the appliances are full-sized. It is extremely well stocked, and there are lots of dishes. Water seemed slow to boil on the ceramic cooktop, but we mentioned this to Laurence, and she will be replacing the pots. TV (English news, and lots of French and German programs) and WiFi are strong. There is a thoughtful selection of DVDs (including "Saving Private Ryan" and "The Longest Day") and of CDs, especially of chanteurs (Serge Gainsbourg, Jacques Brel, etc.).

Port-en-Bessin is a charming little fishing village with amenities for the tourist, such as restaurants and shops. It has its own charms, such as the walks up onto the bluffs and the never-ending spectacle of a working fishing port. The boats return each day in the harbour at the front door of "Le Bateau", where you can watch them unloading their catch at the fish market. Port-en-Bessin is also a peaceful, central location for easy drives to Bayeux and the D-Day sites, ranging from Pegasus Bridge and Juno Beach in the East to Omaha and Utah in the West. Free parking was plentiful, and we did not use the private parking available for the unit.

Laurence is a pleasure to deal with, and will ensure your stay is a pleasant one.

A dream comes true!

  • 5 of 5
A fantastic house in a sweet village so close to the ocean, its music and its smell!
The house is beautifully decorated with touch of the past along with top moder amenities. All was tight and clean and Laurence, the owner, was lovely and very helpful.
I obviously will recommend the place to all my friends and next time in Normandy, I will certainely go back inspite the inconvinience of too much stairs...
The location is fantastic for trips to the whole area, from Honfleur in the the north to St. Malo and Cancal in the south-west. But you need a car for it.
We used to buy fish and fruit de mer in the dailly fishermen narket just across the quai and enjoy cooking and eating them in the comfortable kitchen in the house.
Don't miss it - it's a real gem!!
