Federica was so easy and helpful to work with. Her home was perfect for our week in Lucca. The location is wonderful, easy access to all the beautiful sites of the city. The amenities in the apartment are more than we expected. One of my favorite memories was riding bikes on the wall the first day we arrived in town. Federica provided bicycles with the apartment. She gave suggestions and advice on how to spend our time in not only Lucca, but all of Italy. Two of the recommendations she gave on where to spend our time were our absolute favorite places in Italy! I would recommend this apartment to anyone staying in Lucca. Thank you Federica!
First of all I must say that dealing with Federica was great! She was always quick to respond and everything went very smooth. She met us at the bus station upon arrival and took us directly to the apartment. The apartment was clean and all the linens were fresh and nice.
The apartment is on the 3rd floor and there are 53 steps. (Keep this in mind if you have bad knees.) It is located in a great location so that makes the steps a little easier to bare. ;^) It can get pretty loud on weekend nights with the young people hanging around the bars. If you close the front windows as well as the wooden blinds and then close the bedroom door it helps a lot. Most nights we were too tired from touring so it was not a problem.
The bathroom is very narrow and is a little tight...but not a deal breaker. There is a blow drier as well as a washing machine which was really helpful. I am still not used to hanging my clothes to dry (Americans!) so we ended up taking them to the laundry mat to dry them. (Plus the pigeons did a number on the clotheslines.)
We stayed for 3 weeks so it was very reasonable for us. I like to cook and experiment with local products so having a kitchen was great. It also helped us to keep costs down. The super market as well as the shops in town had everything we could ever need. The kitchen has the bare necessities and I longed for my sharp knives from home ;^) but for a rental it had what was required.
Some of our favorite things:
Pizzeria Pellegrini~Just at the end of the court. Delicious and cheap!
Trattoria Da Leo~Yummy food and friendly service.
L' Enoteca Mago dei Vini~Franco the owner is great! The Pesto was delicious and they have Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and Torpedo!
Wine Tasting in Chianti~we took the tour from MyTours. It was really a nice tour. (and I am usually not a fan of group tours!)
Federicas Dad (Marco) was kind enough to take us sightseeing on one of our days. That was a lovely surprise and very much appreciated. My husband works for a brewery so Marco took us to visit a brewery (Birrificio del Forte~Great beer!) in Pietrasanta as well. It was a great day!
Overall...the apartment is exactly like the pictures represent. The location is great. You can walk to both the train and bus stations within 10 minutes. Federica was helpful and friendly and also speaks English very well. Lucca is a lovely place and we really were able to take our time and get to know and enjoy it.
I am writing this review a couple of months after my visit to Lucca, and as I sit here and write this I smile thinking about the memories made there. I must start off with saying that Federica’s apartment and hospitality was without a doubt suburb, she was always very quick to reply to my inquiries. I was originally planning on traveling alone and wanted a place that was close to attractions and within walking distance to public transportation. I was sold on its location. The apartment is located within Lucca’s walls and is literally steps away from the Piazza San Michele. It is also steps from great restaurants, gelaterias, and a short 10 min. walk to the train station. I booked her apartment for 12 nights.
There was a last minute change in my travel plans and I ended up arriving in Lucca a few days early and with my two daughters. Federica was very accommodating to our early arrival. She reassured me that my daughters would enjoy the city and it was a safe place for them to explore on their own. Our flight was hours delayed and Federica was kind enough to pick us up at the Pisa airport. That was definitely an unexpected and extremely generous thing to do.
Upon arrival to the apartment, Federica showed us everything we needed. She had a binder there with all the information. She had a map of the city ready for us and she marked places she knew we would need (produce store, bigger grocery store, etc.). She also told us about any possible noise that might come from a restaurant down stairs (near the piazza)- it was never a problem- and she also warned us about the smell of food from the kabob restaurant downstairs- that too was never a problem.
The apartment has a queen sized bed in one bedroom and the sofa pulls out for another bed; there is also a chair that converts to a single bed. It is fully equipped with a washing machine and has air conditioning, which was needed during the warm, humid days and nights of the summer.
Federica was a wonderful help. She emailed me a few times with restaurants she thought we might want to visit and also recommended a tour guide who could show us around the city. She was always very quick to reply to my emails/text messages. At one point I even messaged her late at night regarding the air conditioning and she replied within minutes.
I cannot express how satisfied we were with the apartment. If we ever make it back to Lucca, and we do want to return, this is the only place we will stay.
We stayed in this appartment for a week and really enjoyed it. Not only did the owner receive us very warmly, the appartment was well located in the centre of the old town, very charming, practical and clean. A lot lof light, lovely view from the window and nicely furnitured. We recommend the appartment to anyone!
The house is located in the historic center, near the church of San Michele and the most beautiful squares of the city.
Near the house there are interesting and well-stocked shops for shopping and near the boutiques more features.
The city of Lucca in Tuscany is located in an excellent position to 30 minutes from the sea of Versilia, just thirty minutes from Pisa and 50 from Florence. These cities can also be reached by train or bus service, both stations are less than a 15 minute walk from the apartment.
