CHARACTER COTTAGE IN RIVERSIDE COUNTRY SETTING, GARFAGNANA

Diese Unterkunft können mein Mann und ich wirklich nur empfehlen. Das Haus ist mit viel Liebe zum Detail urig eingerichtet, Alles ist sauber und ordentlich - sowohl innen als auch außen absolut gepflegt. Die Inhaber sind sehr nett, wohnen nicht direkt am Haus, sind aber (wenn man es möchte) umgehend da. Die Nachbarn drum herum, die mit viel Liebe ihre Gärten pflegen und hegen sind alle super freundlich. Und der Pool ist eine willkommene Abkühlung nach einer anstrengenden MTB-Tour in der Garfagna. Eine traumhafte Gegend.

We arrived at this property late at night having driven from Pisa airport. We wanted "rustic" and thats precisely what we got. The outdoor lighting was so welcoming as was the bottle of wine, pasta and sweets on the table (such a nice touch). We opened the front door in the morning to find the most beautiful view I was completely speechless. A very well equiped house with plenty dishes and brand new cooker. A great big fridge with freezer compartment for all that amazing gelato and pecorino from the market in Castlenouvo (5 mins) drive. We loved to eat outside under the loggia and watch the locals tend their crops and vines. We tried out our limited Italian on them and ended up with some fabulous fresh vegetables. The kids loved the big well maintained garden with fruit trees and choice of beautiful views with comfy sun loungers and parasols. The pool was essential for frequent cool downs. There was also the option of the short walk to the river but some days this was busy. The BBQ area was fabulously cool and yet another quirky edition to this stunning property. We were visited by the owners and his lovely family who was brilliant with suggestions of places to eat although there is a well detailed visitor pack in the house. It is well off the main road with a steep incline but its Garfagnana after all and if you are touring this area you will come to love these steep climbs with beautiful surprises at the top/end. The property is lovely and cool at night with the bare stone walls. We didn't need the air conditioning but it is available. It was great to be able to use the wardrobe and drawers to store clothes but there was an iron and board available too. Although a car is essential we used the trains from Camporgiano into Lucca and Florence which were cheap and regular with stunning views through the mountains. This was by far the best holiday we have ever had and it was a sad day when we drove back to Pisa airport . Something worth mentioning - we flew home to Scotland at 21:00 hrs so we arranged with Hertz car hire to leave the car and luggage until around 19:00 hrs and took a taxi into Pisa for a spot of sightseeing. We would definately stay here again. The owner also has a slightly bigger property nearby so if you don't fancy the idea of a sofa bed then I believe its also a lovely house. Thanks also to the booking service of this company also. Hope to make it back some day!

We can not fault this lovely little property at any level. The location is very peaceful and yet the supermarket/town is only minutes away. Having visited the region on six occasions now, what we enjoyed as much as anything this time was the variety of bird and wildlife. Mark managed to tick a number of birds off his list including Bee-eaters, Redstarts, Serins and some others that we could not find in the book! Although we were unlucky with the weather this year we did manage to sit out in the sunshine at some part of evey day enjoying the fabulous garden and views.
Isola really looked after us and we can not wait to return, possibly later in the year to see what autumn is like at Al
