We aim to provide a very high standard of country living and comfort with traditional architecture and modern facilities. Monte da Quinta sets a high standard and has been approved and officially licensed by the Ministry of Tourism of Portugal, Classification CASA de CAMPO.

This unique retreat comprises of two country houses which are beautifully furnished to a high standard, set in 5 hectares of private estate land. A large natural salt water swimming pool and children’s play pool (no chlorine or chemicals). Just on the edge of Castro Verde we have the advantage of the tranquillity and beauty of this fantastic landscape, plus all the facilities of the town.

Within 10 minutes walking, or 2 minutes in the car, we have several excellent RESTAURANTS, CAFES, SHOPS and SUPERMARKETS, Festivals and Markets throughout the year.

Eating out locally is extremely good value for money. Typically a two course lunch time “meal of the day” “Prato da Dia” including: bread, olives, a beverage and coffee costs 7.50 euros per person. A two course evening meal including: bread, olives, a good bottle of wine and coffee, costs between 40 – 50 euros for two persons. A coffee or tea and locally made pastry from one of our many coffee shops costs just 2 euros.

Located within 45 minutes easy reach of the West coast and the Algarve.

OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES:

Working with a preferred partner we are able to offer the following outdoor activities at a very special rate. Monte da Quinta will handle the booking for you and make all the necessary arrangements.

VINEYARD TOURS (lunch optional), QUAD BIKING, HOT AIR BALLOONING, ARCHERY, HORSE RIDING.

Various activities are available from Monday to Friday throughout the year. Please consider the Alentejo climate, some may be more appropriate than others depending on the time of year.

BIRD WATCHING PARADISE the perfect location for twitchers, our guests have listed some of the birds spotted at Monte da Quinta on within 10 kilometres such as: Lesser Kestrel, Red and Black Kite, Great and Little Bustard, Black Bellied Sandgrove, Corn Bunting, Eagles, Bee Eater, Egret, Storks, Marsh Harrier, Montago Harrier, Cuckoo, Strikes. resident Little Owls and we have a Nightingale for several weeks of the year.

REST ASSURED: Our farmhouses are maintained to a very high standard of cleanliness and are inspected on a weekly basis. Our holiday houses were restored to strict guidelines set by the Ministry of Tourism Portugal. These include: mains drainage, mains electric, solar water heaters, no gas appliances and our pool water is regularly tested.

All rooms have smoke alarms these are connected to a central alarm system. Fire panic buttons and emergency exit signs. Kitchens are fitted with extinguishers and fire blankets. As a registered business we are licensed operators for Rural Tourism and insured for public liability. We provide a basic first aid kit in each house and we are regularly inspected for health and safety. We are on site to assist, manage and maintain our standards 'Our reputation along with your recommendation is our future'.

The house is furnished to a high and comfortable standard. It has a large comfortable lounge and dining area complete with Wi-Fi, flat screen TV, satellite channels, DVD player, and a iPod speaker dock. A selection of DVD's, books and board games. A well equipped kitchen also provides granite worktops, a hob, oven, microwave, large fridge/freezer, kettle, electric juicer, toaster, an iron and an ironing board. Both bedrooms have en suite facilities, walk-in shower or bath, WC, hand basin and bidet. Both bedrooms have double doors onto their own private terrace.A door from the kitchen opens onto an alternate private breakfast terrace. Large doors open from the lounge onto a private covered dining terrace, with southerly views for miles over the un-spoilt Alentejo plains. For extra comfort this house has under floor heating included during low season. It is single storey and has traditional terracotta floors throughout with wooden shuttered windows and high vaulted beamed ceilings.

About Michaela Tulip-Mills

Having bought Monte da Quinta in the summer of 2002 with the intention of it becoming our holiday retreat, we found it increasingly hard to return from visits to the hustle and bustle of the UK. With much planning and determination, finally in the summer of 2005, we moved to Portugal.

Why Michaela Tulip-Mills chose Castro Verde

Project managing the build and restoration of the farmhouses, we took inspiration from some of the fantastic accommodation we had stayed at within Europe. With our love for all things rustic, traditional and the ambience of the Casa de Campo “House of the Country” life style, Monte da Quinta started to evolve.

We wanted to maintain the traditions and farming practises that had taken place at Monte da Quinta for many generations. With little knowledge of our own, we enlisted the help of a former employee of the farm. Despite our initial lack of the Portuguese language, his patience with us and dedication to the land and the animals has helped us to keep farm blooming.

What makes this farmhouse unique

Monte da Quinta combines modern facilities and traditional architecture with an even balance between rural tourism, farming and a unique way of life. Centrally located within the lower Alentejo region with easier access to the Algarve and the western coast line.

With our continuing success, we have settled into the landscape and lives of the local people very nicely. Thanks to the fantastic support and recommendations from many of our returning guests, we now have a viable business with visitors from all over the world.

Lovely Relaxing Cottage

Fantastic place for a relaxing holiday. Our cottage was really well equipped and spotlessly clean. It's only a short walk into town for restaurants and bars, or easy to relax on the patio and cook your own food on the barbeque. Lots of places to visit only a short drive away. The owners are lovely, incredibly helpful and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. A stunning place.

Superb Relaxing Spotless Cottage, Great Location.

Lovely place to stay, absolutely spotlessly clean beautiful cottages, the host are so friendly and welcoming nothing is too much trouble for them,we arrived by taxi and the owner took us to the supermarket in his own car, now that is above and beyond their call of duty, tranquil peaceful, I can't say enough about these cottages only that you must rent them and you will know were we are coming from with our review.

The most perfect escape from the rat race

On arriving, all tensions of a busy life at home quickly slipped away. Only a short journey from Faro airport to this wonderful holiday location.

Our hosts were attentive and respectful of your privacy, providing local knowledge for the best place to eat out and information with regards to how to make your holiday perfect.

My 11 year old loved to take the left overs of our meal to the pigs at the farm, everyone on the farm has their job ( apart from the guest) and the pigs were great garbage bags!!

The Villa was spotless and the attention to detail amazing, This small natural paradise filled every expectation.

Eating out was a wonderful local experience with no Mac Donald's in sight "Bliss"

The traditional cuisine was appreciated by me and my two children, 11 and 16, alike.

I would not hesitate to return to this wonderful part of Portugal and can see me and my family returning time and time again.

Rural Retreat

Casa Oliveira ticks all the boxes for an idyllic retreat. Set in a lovely rural area this is true escapism for those that want it. The villa itself has been beautifully converted, is spacious and is rustically styled. There is lots of attention to detail with a powerful shower, pure cotton towels, lovely bed linen and a welcome pack of local produce when you arrive. The owners of the property are very friendly and helpful and on hand to ensure you get the most out of your holiday. Being the end house Casa Oliviera had a lovely open aspect from both bedrooms with french windows opening out to the open countryside. We particularly enjoyed lying in bed at night gazing at the clear, starlight skies before dozing off! Being inland it does get very hot in the Alentejo but there was usually a breeze and the pool was very refreshing. We did a fair amount of driving on our holiday but the roads down to the Algarve are very good. The fact this this is a working farm added to the experience and feeding all of the animals was very enjoyable even for adults. The wine is excellent in this area and very good value. Pure escapism from the rat race!

Pure Tranquility in Alentejo

Monte da Quinta is the perfect place for families looking for peace and tranquility with the option to do day trips to the beach if you wish. Michaela and Nigel are great hosts, providing us with regular batches of tomatoes, cucumbers and eggs from the farm and lots of advice on where to eat and visit in the area. There are animals like chickens, ponies and pigs on the farm which are a great attraction for children, as is the fantastic pool and a huge selection of books and games for if the weather is not great. The house we stayed in, Oliveira, was really spacious and well equipped and had lovely views of the Alentejo countryside. We will definitely be returning again sometime.
