Modern but cosy rural retreat in the heart of the Mendips

Poplar Farm Holiday Cottage invites you to relax and unwind, perhaps with a glass of our own cider in hand, sitting outside gazing over to the Mendips and Cheddar Gorge.

Converted only this year, we offer a very well appointed, two bedroom, two shower room luxury base, gas centrally heated, from which to sample and explore the delights of Somerset and all that the West Country has to offer. The open plan living area and kitchen, which is particularly well equipped, are both light and airy, and have solid oak floors running through to the hall and both bedrooms. Bedroom one has a fitted wardrobe within which is a good sized chest of draws. Wall lights are fitted above the king size double bed which can be adapted to two single beds as shown. Leading off is an en-suite shower wet room with sink and toilet.

Bedroom two also has a good size wardrobe and chest of draws, with bedside cabinets and individual lamps.

Outdoor facilities: Just outside your front door is the garden, an area of lawn that can be lit by the exterior lighting of the cottage on those warm summer evenings. Outdoor furniture, tables, sun shade, and barbecue are provided and is equally suited to breakfasting whilst planning the days events.

The parking area just outside the cottage has space for a number of cars if necessary, with the potential for under-cover storage of bicycles if requested. The under cover area also allows for washing to be hung out to dry, safe in the knowledge that a shower will not catch you out. Don't worry, pegs are provided.

A further garden area extends down to the veg patch, orchard and small pond.

This area is separately fenced off, and often has a few of our sheep in residence, saving me the bother of mowing the lawn. They are guaranteed to be here during lambing as this takes place in the barn to the right as you look at the cottage front door.

We were delighted with this lovely cottage!! It was perfect for our needs, spotless and comfortable. Simon and Annette made our stay unforgettable and we thank them for the warm welcome, the kind gifts of eggs, milk, wine....the list goes on. Thank you as well for a lovely evening sharing with us a few spots we wouldn't have found on our own....Our week at Poplar Farm was truly a highlight of our UK vacation. We would return here in a heartbeat!

What a nice cottage

It is a wonderful cottage.

The cottage is very comfortable and clean.

The welcome packed with wine,beer,milk,eggs and cider was very nice!

Simon and Annette are very friendly and they give us good tipps for our tripps to Bath,Exmoor, Cheddar, Wells and Glastonbury.

Our children Femke and Sintje like it to feed the chickens,ducks und the pigs with Simon.

It is a very nice place for holiday on a farm.

Lovely cottage in a beautiful region

We had a wonderful stay at the Poplar Farm and we cannot thank enough Simon and Annette ! They were so nice and they kept kindly giving us delicious fresh eggs and cider. Even if we had some trouble communicating in English, Simon still tried to talk with us :)

The cottage is perfect with everything you need and the decoration is made with such a good taste.

We enjoyed our stay in the Somerset which is such a beautiful region and the cottage is well located between Wells, Glastonbury, Bath or even Cardiff !

The warmest of welcomes to Somerset

The cottage is a wonderful place to spend some relaxing time, excellently equipped and set in a beautifully picturesque part of Somerset. It is of a very high standard, but elevated higher by the generosity of Annette and Simon. In addition to the welcome pack of essentials (few places can compete with knowing exactly which hens the eggs came from) and the fantastic farmhouse cider, their genuine interest in helping visitors find the best from the area was refreshing. We all enjoyed seeing Crinkle and the piglets every morning (although Daisy was not too sure about the chickens) and hopefully the new ducks will now have settled in.

Having stayed in a few cottages in the West Country, we consider that this was far and away the best and look forward to a return in the near future.

Absolutely fabulous

This cottage is outstanding, you will not find anything better than this!

This has been lovingly decorated and is very homely. It is extremely comfortable and totally spotless. The location is perfect with many places close by including Cheddar.

The kitchen is very well equiped, we ate in most of the time and could find nothing they didnt have.

Simon and Annette were brilliant and made us feel very welcome. Simon kept us full with fresh eggs and plenty of cider!! The welcome extras in the cottage including milk, tea, coffee, wine, beer and eggs were great and very much appreciated.

Thank you to Simon for taking us to see the feeding of the animals, that was a special treat. I believe Crinkle, the pig, is due about now? so hope all is going well.

We were only sorry we did not have enough time to have a longer stay but we most definately will be returning again.

I could not have found a nicer place to spend my week in Somerset. The cottage was immaculate and you were impeccable in your approach to hosting. I cannot thank you enough and genuinely wish I could stay longer.

The cottage itself had everything I could have hoped for and the location suited me perfectly. Both Wedmore and Cheddar were just a couple of miles away and I enjoyed taking a stroll to both places more than once. Simon's recommendation to try The Swan in Wedmore was a good call...... the Pork Belly was fabulous!

All in all, this was one of the most enjoyable breaks I have ever had and I will be hoping to come down and stay again in the not too distant future.

Golf: Isle of Wedmore Golf Club is one of Somerset’s friendliest clubs, a warm welcome is always extended to our members and visitors including societies and corporate visitors. The Isle of Wedmore Golf Club was founded in 1992 and is located just 2 miles from Poplar Farm.

Our location benefits from breathtaking panoramic views of the Mendip Hills, Cheddar Valley, Glastonbury Tor and the Somerset Levels. Our parkland course has been carefully designed to maintain and enhance the natural environment offering 18 holes (par 70) of over 6000 yards in 2 nine hole loops. Both these loops start and finish at our excellent and newly extended Clubhouse which offers a wide range of delicious snacks, meals and beverages. It provides a challenge for the experienced golfer but at the same time is gentle enough for the less skilful player.
