All have loungers, chairs and parasols. No 1 beach is in the resort centre lined by the new promenade with beach front cafes bars and small shops. No 2 beach is the place to head for water and sea sports including diving and paragliding. No3 beach is in a tranquil bay with just a couple of bars, dive centre and clear blue water. Food, Bars and Shopping: Altinkum is a quiet resort by day but comes to life in the evenings with many wonderful restaurants and bars. Traditional Turkish cuisine is the order of the day but many restaruants offer more familiar foods also. Some have special Turkish evenings which include belly dancing. For the more lively there are clubs for dancing, the best of which is the Medusa open air coliseum which plays disco music to the early hours. The local market sells leather goods, clothes, lace and home grown produce at very reasonable rates. The marina offers a good selection of boat trips to local coves and beaches. Altinkum life centres around Dolphin Square, with its myriad of shops, pavement cafes and restaurants. Stroll to the end of Dolphin Square and you are faced with the stunning golden sands of Altinkum's main beach. A right turn will lead down one side of the promenade, proffering more restaurants, bars and nightspots. The Local Dolmus will take you around Didim just wave one down as they past.
Culture : Culture seekers could not find a better base than Altinkum. For those wanting more than just a beach holiday, a large selection of excursions and boat trips can be booked at reception or locally. Only 1.5 km away is the famous temple of Apollo. The single most impressive site on the Ionian Coast. Particularly fascinating is the trip to Ephesus - one of the 7 Wonders of the Ancient World. The Five Islands Boat Trip is another firm favourite, or try a Turkish Bath.
Didim is the main town associated with Altinkum. It is particularly famous for its Saturday market and ancient Didyma, site of the Apollo Temple, which was first built around 560 B.C. Apollo was the son of Zeus and twin brother to Artemis. According to the legend their mother Leto, gave birth to the twins in the Ortego woods.
Hi Ellen & Steve,
Just a quick note to thank you both for renting your holiday home to us.
We enjoyed a relaxing holiday. The weather was fantastic.
We gave our holiday 5*s
AquaVista (AV) is on the western edge of Didim, about 10 min by Dolmu?/courtesy bus from Altinkium sea-front.The apartment, in a block on the western side of AV is decorated & furnished to a high standard. The highlight is the sun terrace. It faces south & offers part/full sun for 11-12 hrs/dayin July/Aug. There’s a fixed canopy over part of the terrace to offer shelter from the scorching mid-day sun.We ate all meals on the terrace. There’s a good breeze up there. The nicest time of day is after 15:00when the intense heat of the cloudless dayswanes. There are distant sea views.
The owners have thought of everything that guestsneed. We could think of nothing that was unavailable. The dishwasher was great, the H2O cooler invaluable.
AV is family-friendly, mid-sized, has a good sized pool (separate pool for younger kids), a shop (very limited range but has the basics), bar & restaurant. There’s an indoor pool & gym.Grounds are well maintained. There were plenty of other teenagers for our 16 & 14 year olds to hang out with. You can sunbathe by the pool if you want. The reception/shop/bar/restaurant/gardening and courtesy bus staff were all friendly, polite, helpful & good humoured.
Didim/Altinkium is rapidly growing& struggles to cope in peak summer when the population doubles.
We’ve no hesitation in recommending this apartment. It’s in an ideal position. The roof terrace is enviably big compared to some of the others. Book it. Go. Enjoy.
Didim is set on the beautiful curved coast of the Aegean. It is 175 km south from the Turkey's third largest city Izmir. The motorways into Didim offer fantastic views and sights of ruins.
Didim is one of the peninsulas surrounding the Güllük (Gulf), a coastline of 53 Km full of beautiful bays. Most have sandy beaches where you can swim and sunbathe freely. Altinkum – meaning golden sand or number one beach is at the centre of the resort, with golden sand and clear blue water.
Though it is in quite a hot climate and on a peninsula, either for its air of very low humidity or the breeze which mildly blows from the land towards the sea all day long, or for the sea which covers your horizon, Didim creates a feeling of infinity and eternity, as well as a feeling of limitless freedom in everyone.
