A VARIED WEEK IN THE PAS DE CALAIS

  • 5 of 5
Les Tilleuls perfectly matched its description. It was well equipped and well maintained with a lovely garden. It is a short drive from Boulogne where we were able to stock up with French delicacies at the Auchan hypermarket. Boulogne Centre Ville is a typical seaside port - not worth a visit, but the fortified town is nice and has a little cobbled street, lined with small restaurants.
Les Tilleils offered all of us opportunities for a good holiday. Despite dull weather my grandchildren enjoyed the local beaches at le Touquet and Hardelot. Nausicaa is probably not as good as Oceanopolis at Brest but fine on a wet day.My youngest son and his girlfriend enjoyed an overnight trip to Paris by catching the train at Boulogne, while my husband and I managed to visit all of the towns in Nord Pas de Calais ... and slightly beyond! We visited Arras with its restored squares,Amiens with its beautiful cathedral and its canals,le Touquet, St Omer - a pleasant small town - and Lille which we especially liked. We had lunch in the main square and coffee in Meert, which has been there since C18th.Lille also has some nice shops.
Other trips that we enjoyed were to the Cistercian Abbey at Valloires which we were shown round by a young French guide. It was challenging trying to follow so much detail in french but satisfying to pick up some of it.There is a beautiful garden with a small shop and restaurant.
La Coupole is also very interesting. The approach tunnels are always very cold which adds to the atmosphere but would make a sweater essential on a hot day.The information is well presented and the head phones deal with the language problem. This is not really a visit for children much younger than 10 or 11. There is a little cafeteria at the entrance and as the visit lasts 2/3 hours, it's sensible to have a drink at the start.Their sandwiches also provided a satisfactory lunch at the end.
We all enjoyed our week at les Tilleuls and it was a relaxing place to return to in the evenings and catch up on what everyone had been doing.

Owner's Response: The Pas de Calais truly is « real France – real close ». So easy to get to and so much to see and do. Sure there are no guarantees on the weather but that goes with being « real close ».
The upside is that guests staying at Les Tilleuls tend to be more adventurous with their excursions when the sun’s not shinning, taking home more memories of « real France ».

The Les Tilleuls as Marjory found out is large enough and comfortable enough for all the family and for all ages. In renting Les Tilleuls you’ll enjoy a quality holiday home and a perfect base for exploring the region.

ONE WORD: WONDERFUL!

  • 5 of 5
We stayed in this lovely, spacious house in the small village Tingry for almost 2 weeks. We really felt at home right away. Michael & Danielle gave us a warm welcome! Danielle: your English is nothing to be insecure about!

The house is big enough for two families, but we (as a family of 3) didn't feel like we we're lost in a way too big home. So it's also suitable for smaller families.

The big (fenced) garden is fantastic for children to play in, and visiting the cows on the other side of the fence makes it even more fun for them. There's enough garden furniture and the garden beds are a comfortable hangout for a few hours of reading while the kids are playing.

Michael & Danielle are very helpful, whenever we had a question we could expect an immediate response.

The region Nord - Pas de Calais is very beautiful, with it's combination of sea, beaches, woods, lovely towns and hills. We especially loved Le Touquet and Hardelot (Plage). In Boulogne you'll find big commercial centers for the shopaholics amongst us. A daytrip to England is easy, just take the Eurotunnel and in little over half an hour you're on the other side of the Channel.

All in all this property is a gem, we can highly recommend it!

BRILLIANT FAMILY STAY

  • 5 of 5
What can I say, What an amazing place Les Tilleuls is. Easy to get to from Calais, Beautifully kept accommodation, contained everything we needed, amazing views from an well kept garden, and an added bonus of the occasional cow, mole popping in!
We were a family of 9 with ages from 72 - 2 and the area is perfect for visiting the differing local towns and villages, lots to do for everyone. La Touquet is lovely, we went to the Aqualud water Park and the kids loved it, whilst the adults just chilled on the deck chairs in the sun. Boulogne is both beachy and historical so everyone found something of interest. And we revisited Wimmeux and its not changed a bit, a lovely picturesque seaside town/village with a beautiful stretch of beach and good restaurants on beach front.
Michael and Danielle were very welcoming and helped with any queries. A great place for a 1st night meal is the 3 Barrels restaurant in Samer, their own beer is great (we brought some home with us).
We are hoping to visit again in the near future. Thank you very much for making our well earned holiday a relaxing time.
We have no hesitation in recommending this property to other travellers.
Regards Ruth and Mark Vernon

DOES WHAT IT SAYS ON THE TIN!

  • 4 of 5
Fabulous place to stay had every thing you could possibly need. We had 2 dogs with us which Michael and Danielle kindly allowed us to bring and usually when you stay in a rented place that allows dogs it is very basic but not at Tilleuls it was like home from home. So many details that made it so great. Michael and Danielle were superb in their customer service, cannot be faulted in any way. They were very helpful and gave lots of advice on where to go etc also were a great help with a dentist! The only thing i would have liked and that is a gate on the front entrance as per the picture of Tilleuls. The Gite was very clean and well maintained and the garden was superb. We would love to go back to Tingry and would highly recommend this property.

TOP RATE GITE

  • 5 of 5
The gite was perfect for our week's holiday.

It was equipped with pretty much everything you could ask for when on holiday - fully equipped kitchen, toys for the kids, books, DVDs (the kids could even watch CBBC which was handy in the morning and the all important England football match in the evening!!), as well as being lovely and spacious and having a huge garden that the kids (and sometimes dad) could run around in. Any problems and the owners Michael and Danielle are next door and more than happy to try and help out - for example, we forgot our travel adapter and they happily lent us one.

The surrounding area has lots to offer. Particularly for families (we have a 9,7 and 2yr old) are 2 fab theme parks (Bagatelle and Dennlys Parc), Aqualud - the water park at le Touquet with lots of slides and other water features, Nausicaa - the huge aquarium at Boulogne (always good for a rainy day) and old town Boulogne itself which is lovely to wander round. The kids found an amazing sweet shop there and thought they were in heaven! Beaches are lovely - our favourites are at Sainte Cecile and Merlimont but pretty much all the nearby beaches are nice. There's a lovely restaurant next to the beach at Merlimont that we can recommend.

On top of the gite being first class and the area being so lovely, it only took us 4 hours to get there door to door (2 hrs actual driving) which is fantastic, especially with an impatient 2yr old constantly asking us 'Are we there yet ?'!

Definitely recommend this place and will definitely be booking up again for next year.

FIRST CLASS GITE

  • 5 of 5
This is a first class gite which more than lives up to its description and is by far the best we have stayed in.

It is spotlessly clean and well maintained throughout. The kitchen area is equipped with just about everything you could wish for on a self-catering holiday and the sitting room is comfortable and spacious.

The owners, Michael and Danielle, made us feel very welcome and, whilst the accommodation is quite separate from their house next door, if we needed anything, we only had to go through the garden gate to ask.

My wife and I stayed here by ourselves on this occasion, but in the past we have stayed with our children and grandchildren. The house provides ample accommodation for a large party and the spacious grounds are ideal for young children to play in.

Activities in the area which we enjoyed were visits to the medieval walled town of Montreuil, where a walk around the ramparts is a must, the old quarter of Boulogne around the cathedral, where once again a walk around the ramparts is recommended and, of course, the superb sea world museum at Nausicaa in Boulogne which both children and adults will enjoy.

A bit further afield we enjoyed visiting the Marquenterre bird sanctuary near le Crotoy on the Somme estuary – about an hour's drive. It is a bird watchers' paradise and a whole day can be spent here.

Also when the children and grand children were with us, we went to the nearby amusement parks at Bagatelle and Dennlys Park. And of course, if the weather was fine, there was a choice of superb beaches nearby at Hardelot, Le Touquet, Berck and Merlimont to enjoy.

I would recommend this property to anyone who would like a taste of the real France, but does not want to spend many hours of travel getting there from the channel. For those who imagine that northern France is flat and uninteresting, a visit here will be an eye-opener!

Set in the Boulonais region of Pas de Calais, between the Opale coast and a vast expanse of Natural Park Lands. A wonderful selection of sandy beaches, such Hardelot, Le Touquet, Ste Cecile. The house is half way between the historical fortified towns of Montreuil & Boulogne sur Mer. This truly is real France, real close to the British shores. Only 45 minutes drive from the tunnel or ferry ports.

Golf: Golf on the Opal Coast at Hardelot - LeTouquet - Nampont-Saint-Martin - Belle Dune -Wimereux - Aa Saint-Omer - Dunkerque - Abbeville - Arras

With its 11 eighteen-hole and 3 nine-hole golf

courses, the Opal Coast offers golfers a wide range of quality courses, both along its coastline and inland.

The quality and attractiveness of its golf courses are well known to all, up to the very highest level.

International competitions have been held here for many years.

In 1990, the 9 golf clubs decided to work together to promote the Opal Coast as a golfing destination.

From this union was born a strong motivation to make this coastline in the North of France a major centre for European golf and to improve constantly the quality of the courses and of the services on offer.
