Warm welcome, great apartment in beautiful village

We really enjoyed our stay at Angelina's House in Varenna. Angelina herself waited for us in the apartment despite our late arrival time, and gave us a really warm, friendly welcome. The apartment is spacious and well-equipped, and is located right in the middle of the old part of the village, just 20m from the lake and the village square. The apartment was spotlessly clean and tidy. Marilena made the booking process easy, and gave us all the information we needed.
Varenna is a real gem on the east shore of Lake Como, with the different-coloured houses huddled on the steep hillside separated by narrow cobbled streets. Try a late-afternoon gelato on the lake-front when the sun is sparkling on the water.
Its easy to get to Menaggio and Bellagio by ferry (the ferry port is 10 mins walk from the apartment), and worth seeing both. For the more energetic, there are several walking routes in the mountains behind Varenna, which offer fabulous views over the lake and mountains.
If you plan to cook in the apartment, note that there are no supermarkets in Varenna but there are a couple of small shops. Nearby Bellano (by train or car) has bigger stores. When eating out, its worth booking at the better restaurants, which can get busy.
All in all, I would definitely return to Angelina's House in Varenna. You won't get a more genuine welcome in a 4* hotel.
