TRANSYLVANIA... 'the land beyond the mountains', that's what it means literally, but once you get to know it, it is so much more than a land. Even prince Charleshas been captured by the Transylavian beauty and owns several properties in the area. He described Transylvania ' the sheer beauty of the landscape, the unspoilt nature, the villages, the churches, the whole extraordinary atmosphere of summer, which is timeless. And it is very rare nowadays' ( HRH Prince Charles, on PRO TV Romania).
You must have all heard at some point in time something about Transylvania. It would have been to do with Dracula, the mountains, the strong brandy called 'palinka', old horses pulling a cart and so on.
If you've read Bram stoker's Dracula, which was written two centuries ago and you visit Transylvania now, you can still find places that stood still through time. This does not mean in any way that you will not find all the mod-cons of the 21st century, as Cluj is a very well developed, cosmopolitan city, with 2 shopping centres, many supermarkets, night clubs and restaurants and beautiful fresh produce markets.
The cottages we have are located in a quiet cul de sac and they are easily accessible from the main road.
They are located just outside the village of Somesu Rece, not far from 3 lakes, greatly located for fishing, speed boat, swimming.
The centre piece of the complex is the barbecue area with the log fire and the log fired pot, surrounded by the outside dining areas and a summer time kitchen.
The cottages are well stocked for winter too, with 4 wood burner ceramic stoves and plenty chopped wood.
The location is popular in summer and winter alike due to the ski resorts not too far away.
We offer excursions in the area, horse riding, fishing trips, speed boat trips, off road trips with Jeep Wrangler and quad bike and many other activities available when in season such as berry picking, porcine and chanterreles mushroom picking.
We have a local family offering to cook for you while you are there, to look after the fires in winter and to provide guided trips.
We offer complementary airport pick-up for all guests arriving at Cluj Napoca Airport.

The climate is continental temperate, with hot summers and cold winters. Temperatures in summer average 25 to 35 degrees Celsius, in winter -5 to -15 degrees Celsius.
The Cluj / Somesu Rece Valley area
Cluj is the largest city in Transylvania. Having been the capital of the Austrian-Hungarian empire, it hosts a culture which has been described by many as ' where the East meets the West'. Gothic with bysantine architecture, Orthodox and Catholic churches, art museums, opera and theatres, plus a very cosmopolitan air!
The Somesu rece valley is set in the mountains, 15 km from Cluj, between deep lakes and forests. The vegetation is predominantly oak and conifer trees, the forest housing some good resources of wild berries and chanterrelles mushrooms, abundant in summer. The lakes are great for fishing and water sports, and in winter, there are 2 ski resorts nearby.
