THE WATERLOO LILAC APARTMENT

Waterloo & Lambeth Apartment Rental Photos and Description

Fantastic, Centrally-Located Block!

The Waterloo West Apartment is a modern block, set within one of the most desirable locations of Central London (Zone 1). This location offers very easy access to some of the absolute best dining, entertainment, and transport options that a visitor could wish for. Of particular note with this apartment, due to its excellent location, on quite days, you can actually hear the chime of Big Ben on the hour; very charming!

Waterloo is a district of London, England, and part of the London Borough of Lambeth. It is situated 1 mile (1.6 km) east of Charing Cross. The area is part of a business improvement district known as Waterloo Quarter, which includes The Cut and the Old Vic and Young Vic theatres, including some sections in the London Borough of Southwark.

The area was marshland towards the northern tip of the ancient parish of Lambeth. It was known as Lambeth Marshe, but was drained in the 18th century and is remembered in the Lower Marsh street name.

Waterloo is connected to the Strand area on the north bank of the River Thames by Waterloo Bridge. The first bridge on the site was opened in 1817 and the current bridge was opened in 1945. The bridge was named to commemorate the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. Waterloo Road also dates from this time, built on land belonging to the Archbishop of Canterbury. The Church of St John the Evangelist, Waterloo Road was constructed from 1822 by the Commissioners for Building New Churches as the population of the parish of Lambeth had significantly increased. After the opening of Waterloo railway station in 1848 the locality around the station and Lower Marsh became known as Waterloo.

A very positive experience

  • Submitted: Feb 8, 2013

During my one previous trip to London I'd stayed in a B&B; in Earls Court. In terms of value-for-money, my stay at the Waterloo apartment was simply beyond compare. Spacious, clean, modern, well-located -- it was a much better value and a much better experience. Being so close to Waterloo Station -- a 10 or so minute walk -- has all of London and indeed the UK close at hand. That same walk, across from the station, had a decent grocery store so one could stock the kitchen with necessities and find the ingredients for meals should one choose to cook "at home".

A caution to travellers from North america -- appliances in London need you to do more than simply turn the dial to the setting what you want. You have to turn switches on the wall in the correct order; otherwise the appliances don't do what you want. We counted on the advertised laundry facilities, but never really managed to use them with confidence.

A Great Inner City apartment in London!

  • Submitted: Feb 8, 2013

I arranged this apartment for my family who were visiting London. The apartment was well-situated near Waterloo station, and the Northern, Bakerloo and Jubilee lines took us everywhere we needed to go without fuss. My sister brought her baby with her, and Boutique Lets were very good about arranging a cot for her. The check in was seamless, and we were very happy with the apartment, especially the well-equipped kitchen, the leafy view and the balconey for a drink at the end of the day. The apartment would have received 5 stars if not for a few quibbles: the kitchen would have benefited from a grater and a teatowel (which I loaned my family during their stay), and the shower in the en-suite was poor: hardly any pressure, and only cold water. As a result, everyone had to share the second bathroom, which was less than ideal. Nonethless, if these points were remedied for future guests, I would happily give this property 5/5 on all points. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Comfortable accommodation for a Family

  • Submitted: Feb 8, 2013

We stayed at Waterloo apartments in Lambeth on the 'Southbank', parents and two adult children, in late august 2011. The apartment was roomy, very clean and quiet, and had a full set of amenities to make for a comfortable stay in the centre of London. With two bedrooms, two bathrooms, large sitting room and eating area, and a full kitchen, the four of us were very comfortable. We enjoyed breakfasts in the apartment, and the option of making our own dinners/snacks etc. We did both and enjoyed relaxing moments together in the apartment after a busy day in London.

It is an easy 10 minute walk to the Lambeth North underground station, making it relatively easy to move about the city using the underground. It is a 15-20 minute walk from Westminster Bridge, making it possible to walk much of downtown London. We walked from the apartment, across Westminster Bridge through St. James Park to Buckingham Palace, down the Mall to Trafalgar Square, across Waterloo Bridge and past the London Eye back to the apartment, with relative ease. Lots to see for certain and one can walk much of downtown London from the apartment. Alternatively, short cab rides can help those who are less comfortable with long walks.

There are many nearby restaurants and pubs along Westminster Road, York Road and Stamford Street and of course, the Old Vic Theatre. The Imperial War Museum is just a few minutes away on Lambeth Road. There are several nearby convenience and grocery stores where one can acquire food, vegetables, beer, wine, etc. for consumption in the apartment.

Boutique London Lets was great to deal with. We arranged all bookings online and they provided easy to use guides and instructions for the apartment. They responded promptly to all of emails and queries, which was both helpful and comforting.

This apartment was ideal for our family. We would definitely stay at this location again, and would definitely be comfortable using Boutique London Lets again.

Spacious and handy

Very spacious apartment that lets you unwind if you've been travelling and staying in really small rooms!

Mostly modern with everything you need. Our bathroom and en-suite were older but that was not an issue to us.

The cloths washing machine did not seem to dry clothes properly I think because the moisture was not being vented from the machine adequately.

Will stay there again.

Good location and Good for families

Good location apartment. Spacious and clean. Well equipped (just missing a clothes dryer). Great for families with kids as you can prepare a meal in the fully equipped kitchenette. There is a convenience store across the road so it is easy to pick up things like milk, eggs n bread. There is also a chinese takeout and fish n chip shop accross the road for a quick meal after a long day out sigtseeing. The washing machine temperature knob was missing, so I had to guess the temperature setting. It would have also been good if there was a dryer as well (drying racks provided in any case). We could not figure out the central heating and the many switches around the house, so it would have been good if the switches were labelled and we could have had some clearer instructions on how to turn off the heating as it was slightly warm at night sleeping. The mattresses were very squeaky and in need of changing. Apart from that we would certainly stay there again if we are in London.
