They say the Isle of Wight is 'stuck in the fifties' and it's true that the Island retains much of its old-world charm with its quiet country lanes and chocolate box villages. On the other hand, the Island is very modern with its pop festivals and many sporting events and activities.
Much of the West Wight is designated as the Isle of Wight AONB and enjoys a milder sub-climate than most areas of Britain. It is a quiet, rural area surrounded by sea on three sides with dramatic coastlines dominated by the chalk downland ridge running across the Island and ending at The Needles. The picturesque estuary of the River Yar runs along the fourth side. Island wildlife is remarkable - it is one of the few places in England where the red squirrel is flourishing.
There are spectacularly beautiful walks, quiet roads for cycling, busy beaches, grand historic buildings, steam trains, amusement parks golf courses - you name it, there is something to suit visitors of all ages and temperaments.
Golf: Freshwater Bay Golf Course is 4km away. The course has spectacular views along the coast towards the Needles and the South Coast beyond.
It is a seaside links style golf course 5725yds long, par 69. which provides a challenge for golfers of all abilities. Visitors are most welcome.
