Sea Poppies sits on a private (unmade-up) road just a stone’s throw from all the attractions of Thorpeness including the famous House in the Clouds, the windmill, the Meare (lake with rowing boats and kayaks you can hire to explore its many islands and even a pirate's fort!), pub, shop, golf club and Thorpeness Country Club (tennis)... and, best of all, the beach!

Sea Poppies has a large and sunny open plan living room/dining room/kitchen, ideal for families, but perfect for smaller groups too. Its garden faces south/west and is sheltered and secluded - perfect for lunches and evening barbecues.

An ideal holiday location for families or couples. A great base for exploring the Suffolk Heritage coast and East Anglia (near-by attractions include Sutton Hoo, Minsmere bird reserve, Framlingham castle and Orford Ness &castle) - or for just relaxing locally. Aldeburgh with its cinema, shops and restaurants is just 2 miles away and there is an indoor swimming pool and a cinema at near-by Leiston too.

We have been holidaying in Thorpeness for nearly 30 years - it's such a great place for all ages. In fact we love it so much we moved to the area 14 years ago so we could enjoy it all the time.... But it's still a real treat for us to stay in Sea Poppies every now and then when we get the chance.

What makes this bungalow unique

Sea Poppies is in such a convenient position for everything (you hardly need the car) yet it is light spacious and - unusually for Thorpeness - has a secluded and sunny garden. Just perfect for holidays...

There are lots of toys, books and games at the house - including a lovely doll's house and a huge box of Duplo and Lego. There's also a record player and a (very eclectic!) selection of LPs. We just want people to feel really at home and have a really special holiday. As one of our visitors wrote: 'Now that's what I call a Holiday Home!'...

Perfect place for the family

An absolute ideal place to stay if you are a (big) family and both want a place where you can just hang out and a place that is perfectly situated if you want to explore beautiful Suffolk.

Very well equipped - including toys for the children - spacious and nicely furnished.
We even had friends coming up from London - a family of 5 - who stayed the night. No problem.

Fran, our landlord replied quickly to all of our requests.

We can fully recommend this place to anyone who wants the very best out of a visit to this area. Beautiful village, magnificent Fish 'n Chips in the neighbour village and good shopping nearby.

We will return

Great place for a family get together

Very accurately listed with everything very clean and well looked after. The bungalow was very spacious, indeed bigger than it looked from the photos and the layout was ideal for us - the master bedroom being away from the other bedrooms. Definitely to be recommended, with plenty of amenities on hand. Wish we could have stayed longer!

Sea Poppies Short Break

Had a wonderful few days at Sea Poppies. Great location and so spacious! My children loved the playroom and the personal touches that made this feel like home. Plenty of space for all the family to relax after a busy day in and around the area. Great communication with hosts too. We will be back without a doubt. The Haslers, Suffolk.

Lovely stay at sea poppies

We had a great relaxing stay at sea poppies. Great location for the boating lake, beach and the house in the clouds. 5 min drive into aldeburgh for fish and chips. The bungalow was clean well equipped just like home from home.

Would definitely recommend if you are thinking about staying here.

Fabulous holiday home

This is a very comfortable holiday property which is totally suitable for everybody,it is in a good location so close to the beach making it ideal for the dogs and children,a great pub serving very good food at a good price and it is in a lovely village if you have never been it is well worth a visit we love Suffolk and all it has to offer.It is all we had hoped for in a holiday let ,it has a play room for children which was not relevant for us but so needed with little ones,a great secure garden ideal again for the children and dogs.It is well equipped having everything that we needed ,all in all a great place- so much so we are returning again later in the year with some different family members.

It's the kind of home that gives you a hug from the moment you arrive.
It's cosy and comfy and spacious and clean.
The owners are extremely helpful and kind and I will go back again just for the shower - the best I've ever had!
We've upped our Omega 3 Count for the next year with the amazing array of fresh fish from Aldeburgh.

Sea Poppies is located in the heart of the Suffolk Heritage Coast in Thorpeness, a delightful and quirky seaside village with shingle beach (sand at low tide so good for swimming), and a huge ‘meare’ (lake) with islands, pirate’s fort and Wendy house to discover by rowing boat or canoe. Tennis (weekly membership available at Thorpeness Country Club) and golf are available in the village and also at Aldeburgh, which, with its wide selection restaurants, cafes, shops and two sailing clubs on the river Alde, is just a mile or so’s walk or cycle south along the coast. There are lovely walks both along the coast or inland through the RSPB North Warren nature reserve, marshes, heathland and woods. Minsmere (the famous RSPB reserve), Southwold (with its lovely pier and beach huts and home of Adnams beer), Dunwich (medieval town mostly lost to the sea), Orford Ness, Sutton Hoo and Snape (home of Aldeburgh Music with its world famous concert hall in the converted maltings) are all near by.

Golf: Thorpeness Golf Course is a short stroll away with its picturesque golf course.

Playable all year round, Thorpeness Golf Club welcomes visitors throughout the week.

In addition, Aldeburgh Golf Club (currently ranking 65th in Golf World’s top 100) is only two miles away.

The challenging 18-hole course is an 'all-year-round' course with the added bonus of superb views across the River Alde.

Refundable damage deposit £150
Notes For stays of less than one week, £150 (£160)/night is charged for the minimum stay period with additional nights charged at £100/night. Christmas/New Year is £225/night. Please note there is a £150 refundable 'good housekeeping' deposit on all bookings.
At peak times our bookings normally run Saturday to Saturday. Outside peak times, we will try to to be flexible to meet your needs.
Payment by bank transfer is preferred. 20% is payable on booking, the remainder 2 months before the holiday commences.
Rates are subject to change at the owner's discretion until the reservation is confirmed.
