A Lovely Relaxing Week

My partner & I stayed at this pretty & thoughtfully renovated house from 24/08/11 for 7 nights of our 18 night holiday. Stella the owner met us in the town of Kissamos just a few minutes after I called her to say we had arrived so that we could follow her to the village. Although the last part of the road to the village is more like a track, it is driveable with care and it was no problem for me to take a ford fiesta up & down several times per day.
The house has been lovingly restored and is well equipped for self catering, although we only ate breakfast and snacks there as we prefer to eat out as part of our holiday experience. We always had enough hot water etc and although the bedrooms can get hot, there is air conditioning available to compensate. Eating breakfast outside in the front courtyard was so relaxing as the village is so small there is no one to bother you.
The village is so quiet it is a perfect retreat to get away from it all. The swimming pool is accessible via an up-slope walk or up about 20 steps & down a garden path. The pool area was a little oasis of peace. An added pleasure for me were the dogs in the village as I am dog mad so I enjoyed them and I hope they enjoyed the fuss from me.
Stella was a welcoming hostess and nothing was too much trouble. We would stay here again as Kissamos is a real Cretan working town and not as touristy as places like Platanias for example. From this location you can easily visit Chania to the east and Falasarna & Elafonisi to the south west. There are a number of tavernas in town for meals out, as well as coffee shops for drinks & snacks. Expect to pay 20-30 euro for an evening meal for starters, mains, wine & water (depending on what you eat). You can eat more cheaply at the local gyros type place - many Cretans eat there & they do a take away service if you want to take food back to the house.
