Lovely apartment in Val Thorens, great view and good location

This ski apartment has a modern comfortable feel and has all the facilities you would expect including separate bedroom with bunks, DVD, dishwasher and full size oven, hob and fridge freezer. There is also a separate hall where you can remove your ski boots etc. The apartment is situated on the first floor and away from the lifts and also faces away from the road so there is no passing traffic. The balcony is south west with panoramic views of the Alps. There is direct access from the ski locker to the main slopes giving easy ski in and out. The Sports Centre, Shopping, Bars and Restaurants are a 2 minute walk, the bus station and secure car parking are also a 2 minute walk. The Ski School meeting point is also close by, approx 5 mins.

Wonderful Location

For our first experience of VT, we could not have wished for a better one. The apartment was cosy, but spacious enough for 4 adults, and was extremely well equipped. Philip and Helen were a pleasure to organise the accommodation through, and were full of good advice.

I would recommend to all Goitschel 2 for ski hire; book P1 for parking; food from the deli in the Gallerie; and drinks and music at Saloon or the Viking Bar.

Contrary to many reports of noise at other Residences, Cimes de Caron was wonderfully peaceful in the evenings, but still within shooting distance of the main bars and restaurants. It is genuine ski-in, ski-out, but with the option of catching the Cairn gondola to the station about 50 yards from the apartment for those with weary legs!

All in all, a great resort with excellent skiing, topped off by a fantastic apartment suitable for all.

Well equipped, spacious and modern.

My boyfriend and I had a great stay in Helen's apartment. It was exactly how it was described, It was very Spacious for two people and there was a separate room with bunk beds that we used as a walk in wardrobe! There was a good amount of storage and equipment to cook with. Having an oven was a luxury as you usually don't in most apartments. you could ski out from the apartment and practically ski back in, just a few meters walk. All amenities were close by, but saying that you don't have to walk that far to get anywhere in Val Thoren as it's quite compact.
Would definitely come back to stay again.

Excellent location

3 of us stayed in the apartment for a week at the end of January 2013. The apartment was ideal for what we needed, although on the small side it had much better facilities than most apartments we'd looked at, and for a much better price! It seems to be one of the only apartments in VT that has an actual oven rather than microwave, which is a bonus when you're cooking 3 pizzas, and the dishwasher was a luxury! Massive fridge, loads of cutlery, plates, pots and pans, etc, everything you could need and more. Shower is also hot and powerful, just what you need after a day on the slopes. View from balcony is great overlooking the slopes and you're able to ski right out of the back door of the building. Skiing back is almost as easy, only having to take skis off to cross the road. Only a couple of minutes walk to bus station for transfers and a few minutes walk to main stretch of bars, restaurants, supermarkets and ski hire shops. Easily enough space for 3 people in apartment. Overall would recommend the apartment very highly, we had an amazing week in VT which was made better by having a great apartment!

Cosy with a great kitchen...

Val Thorens has some of the best snow in the Alps, so finding a good apartment at the right price isn't easy. Having done a season here, I've seen a lot of apartments around town. For the price, this really is a great one.

It's so cosy and really feels like a home away from home. It is also in a great location, close enough to everything without being too close that you're woken up in the middle of the night by drunken teens outside your window.

And then there's the kitchen… The kitchen really makes such a difference. Most apartments here in Val Thorens just have two hotplates and a microwave. This pad has a full sized fridge and freezer, a proper four plate hob, a proper oven and a dishwasher. So, you can really make good use of all the tasty produce available in town.

And sitting on the balcony with a glass of rosé while watching the sun set over the mountains is rather nice too.

As the Governor of California once said… I'll be back.

Lovely apartment, great location

We had a great week in Philip and Helen's apartment. Well equipped, nicely decorated and warm! The bunks were really comfortable and it was a pleasure to stay in in the evening and cook - Val Thorens can be very expensive to eat out and this apartment provides all you need to stay in - a well equipped kitchen and a wide selection of dvd's.

As previous guests have said, the apartment is small but the rooms are well proportioned and there is a hallway which provides you with room to get changed after a day on the slopes. The bedroom is at the back of the apartment, so if you have children there is absolutely no road noise - which was great for us.

The shops and bars of VT are a 5 min walk but are far enough away to not cause any noise issues.

Overall, a lovely apartment in a great location.

Excellent location, however

I rarely write feedback on anything but I feel the need to write a few notes for future folks.
Yes good location, can ski out from the locker room door, and ski in is not quite achievable due to a road but it’s only about a 50m walk so no great hardship. All local amenities such as ski hire shop, food shops, bars and restaurants are all within 5min from the apartment.
The apartment is just about ok for 4 adults, but you have to be good friends. The apartment is plenty warm enough, to the extent where we turned most of the heaters off and it was still warm. Furthermore it is well equipped with all you would need to for cooking and entertainment with more film options you could shake a stick at.
Right then, the however bit
Our biggest gripe when we turned it wasn’t that clean, this may be down to the last occupants, but it hadn’t been hovered in a while and the bathroom wasn’t that great. The other thing is the statement “newly refurbished apartment” is questionable. I would say it’s not been significantly refurbished for 10 years, if fitting a new hob and oven constitutes a refurbishment so be it, but my expectations are a little different and the dishwasher shoehorned into the bathroom was a first for me.
When it comes down to it the apartment is competitively priced for a resort which is probably one of the best in France. Overall the holiday was excellent and, Val Thorens is an excellent place to stay with lots of excellent skiing for all abilities. Overall the issue with the apartment were not significant enough to detract from the holiday, just don’t turn up expecting a newly refurbished apartment.

Owner's Response: Our apartment was refurbished in 2009 and is exactly as it is in the pictures.

Our bathroom does have a dishwasher in there. This is because we chose to use the space in the kichen to fit a full size oven, hob and fridge freezer - most apartments in France have an oven the size of a microwave, a small fridge and a 2 ring hob. The dishwasher is not 'shoehorned' in the bathroom, but placed near the door approx 1 metre from the kitchen - we decided we'd rather have a dishwasher in the bathroom then not at all.

I am disappointed that the 'main gripe' was that the apartment was left unclean yet I was not advised of this when these guests arrived. I always make it clear to people that they MUST leave our apartment clean and tidy for the next occupants, which most people do. However, we do rely solely on the honesty and integrity of our guests to do this. Cleaning deposits will be withheld if we receive complaints.

Overall, our apartment is cosy (23 sqm), warm and has excellent facilities in a great location and has received lots of great reviews...........................
