|Minimum Stay||3 nights|
Casa de Castillo is an old house which has been carefully renovated and modernized. The ground floor has an original vaulted brick ceiling and a wine cellar with exposed natural rocks now converted into a well equipped kitchen, dining room and sitting room with a wood burning stove for cooler nights. Also separate WC and basin.
On the 1st floor are 3 bedrooms with a sitting area and the bathroom. On the 2nd floor is the spacious master bedroom with a very unusual huge round window which makes it particularly light and airy; a hallway leads to a charming sunny terrace with an amazing view up to the towers of the romantic Moorish castle of Montanchez, a perfect place for lazing under the shade sail or star gazing on a warm summer night. There is a separate entrance directly onto the terrace from a secret path leading up to the castle. The house can accommodate 8 people but there are special rates for less occupancy and for longer holiday rentals.
Further information: Montanchez has a beautiful park with two swimming pools surrounded by lawns and trees, just a 10 minute walk from Casa de Castillo. There is also a playground just opposite at the back of the church.
UNESCO world heritage towns- there are three within 30 minutes, Merida for Roman ruins, Caceres for medieval city centre and Guadalupe home of the black Madonna. Also Trujillo an undiscovered gem.
There is a fantastic water park an hour away towards Badajoz.
Monfrague Park, an hour away, near Trujillo is a world famous site for wildlife spotting, especially birds.
it has been a very pleasant stay for us in Montanchez the last two weeks! Nice house, great location both for hiking and
excursions to the nearby cities, and of course for getting in contact to the people in Montanchez itself, we really enjoyed it.
As discussed with Pippa we placed the keys into the letter box.
We replaced the gas bottle last Thursday, so it should be nearly full, and left the cafetera for the next "coffee addicted" :-)
(instructions for use are printed on the box).
As you proposed we had to improvise a sun protection with the cloth you showed us, otherwise it would not have been possible
to use the terrace. We put it back to the store room.
Greetings from Germany!
Montanchez is famous for jamon production and the delicious ham can be tried in the bars around the lively plaza. There are a few restaurants with good regional dishes and one which provides good quality take away food as well as a daily menu, it also has a pretty garden where one can dine under the orange trees. The friendly traditional village is surrounded by stunning countryside; one can walk directly into the sierra through chestnut woods, along ancient pathways, down watermill gorges, through the olive groves, always with amazing panoramic views, maybe meeting the occasional donkey and farmer or a herd of goats. Montanchez is also well placed for exploring further afield. There are 3 world heritage towns within 30 minutes drive; Merida for Roman ruins, Caceres for outstanding Medieval architecture and Guadalupe the home of the original black Madonna, also Trujillo a little know gem. All the towns have great shopping, restaurants, museums, bars and live music events.
