About Fran or Jay

We came out to Fort Lauderdale in 1979 and were entranced with the beauty of the place, the sandy beaches and the friendliness of the local people. In a few short days we had been drawn into the laid-back floridian lifestyle, and relaxed more than we’d ever done before. We decided in 1988 to buy a piece of property for vacationing with our children.

Fran or Jay purchased this house in 1988
Why Fran or Jay chose Oakland Park

Over the next few years renovated the house and moved to another house then this one that we now offer for rental. It has been a labour of love as we furnished and finished it with new materials, landscaped the gardens and planted coconut palms and native shrubs. What you will find when you visit is our little piece of paradise on a beautiful waterways. Our family has loved countless vacations here, and we know you will too.

Activities and Attractions

There is plenty to do in Fort Lauderdale and the surrounding areas, from entertaining sightseeing cruises, to some of the greatest sport fishing in the Atlantic to cruising the Everglades National Park in an airboat.

There are 12 shopping malls, you can find everything you want from the finest merchandise to the bargains of the flea markets and discount outlet malls.

If its culture you seek, you will be amazed at the array of museums and galleries displaying fine art. Performing art venues offer wonderful performances of all kinds from ballet to rock bands.

The beach is just minutes away with its warm Atlantic waters, the wildlife is phenominal, you may get to see a sea turtle crawl onto the beach and dig a nest. The birds are exotic from pelicans down at the pier to parrots flying in flocks in the neighborhoods.

You will be delighted by the beauty of South Florida, there is

something here for everyone.

We are a family of five, 2 parents and 3 teenagers.We were very pleased with the accomodation and location. The kitchen was well equipped and clean as were the bedrooms, livingroom etc. The large TV with its many channels was a good distraction at nght (pity about all the advertisements!!!). Although the pool was cool this did not deter us from our regular swims and it was just glorious sitting on the verandah soaking in the sunshine and watching the wildlife. The property was a 15 min drive to Fort Lauradales' many beautiful beaches and only a short distance to the shops and restaurants. Our whole experience was great and we certainly would go back to this property.

Enjoyed our stay very much. Weather was excellent. Pool and pool area is superb.
Wildlife was very interesting, turtles , birds , ducks , ospreys , iguanas etc.
Property was clean and tidy and the road was very peaceful and quiet.
Would love to stay again sometime.

Our stay at this property was average. The weather was not great and the pool ended up being a dissapointment because it was not heated and the water was very cold. We have small children and the yard with no fence by the canal made for a stressful time in the yard. Other yards in the area are fenced so I would encourage the property owners to do this as well. I will say that the wildlife in the canal was enjoyable to watch. We saw iguanas, a large turtle swim by, several birds catching fish, fish jumping and the back of a manatee as it came up for air.
The kichen could use more supplys for cooking ie. better cutlery, prep dishes, better knives. The towels were old and not very appealing to use. The home was not very clean. It looked as though everything was just wiped down. The sink and bathtub had a 'film' all the way around them. The fridge still had other peoples food in it and some that was expired. So it made me wonder how thourough the house is cleaned. Staying at a house was a better option than in a hotel, for it offered more freedom for our family. But I would not stay at this home again unless some of these things were improved. I would recommend that if you are looking into this home that you make sure that the place is cleaned to your standards. OH and make sure you pack toilet paper because there just might not be any when you get there!!

Owner's Response: These people did not complain during their stay or when they left.
1/ we never said the pool was heated and we are not responsible for the weather
2/ as you can see on the pictures there is no fence by the canal and very few people got one exepted those with dogs or pets like one of my neighbors. It is not required by code ,but we require in our contract that everybody including children must know swimming to stay in this house.
3/ we check everything and we renew twice a year ; linens, home goods, dishes and cuttlery if they dont qualify for the next 6 monthes
4/ we have the same manager and maid for the last 20 years and this is the first time someone complains about cleeaning. .

Hi there, rented this property from March 30 to April 6, property was just as advertised, very clean and just recently renovated. It was great to have all the necessities of home. This property is a real gem, extremely serene backyard.Kids really loved the pool, I really enjoyed the peaceful surrounding and nature at our door step.
