Why Marie McGrath Davis chose County Mayo

My father purchased this property some time in the 1980s, but didn't build on it until 1992. He had built a house in Cloonagh, closer in toward Westport and, though it is a beautiful, enchanted part of Westport, he just couldn't forget the gorgeous view over Clew Bay from the Kilsallagh property, He started work on this house in Kilsallagh Lower while still living - on holidays, anyway - in Cloonagh. Truly, I doubt there is another view quite as beautiful many places in the world.

What makes this cottage unique

We'll defer to the English novelist, William Makepeace Thackeray who visited Westport in 1842, and wrote of the area, 'The most beautiful view I ever saw in the World. It forms an event in one's life to have seen that place so beautiful and so unlike other beauties that I know of. Were such beauties lying on English shores it would be a World's wonder perhaps, if it were on the Mediterranean or Baltic, English travellers would flock to it by hundreds. Why not come and see it in Ireland!'

Add to this that Westport is County Mayo's premier tourist destination, and considered one of the liveliest and most charming towns in the West of Ireland, and the visitor can be assured of the best in scenery, food, entertainment, attractions, craic and fond memories.

Beautiful, everything we wanted in a holiday

  • 5 of 5

A beautiful, home from home place to stay. Restful and action packed, it was everything we wanted. The house was clean and cosy. Although on holiday, the house felt like ours, facilities fantastic and as the listing described and much more. We were helped with places to visit, where to eat, where to shop and much more. All our questions were answered so promptly as well. The views were absolutely stunning as you drove up to the house. We did not want to leave when the day came to return back home. We would definitely recommend this place, area and everything else that we discovered to our friends, family, anyone who wished to visit "a Little piece of paradise/heaven". WE would definitely go again and do hope to return. Definitely deserves ALL the star rating in our book!! and more

Everything you need in a holiday cottage

  • 5 of 5

A big thank you for letting us use your lovely holiday home, we have used many but this has to be the best equipped one to date.

The way to discribe this is a real home from home, very comfy, plenty of room, very private and has great ever changing lovely views of clew bay.

John who met up up with us and showed us to the house was the perfect host making us very welcome and is on the end of the phone if there are any questions, a great asset to this property.

Situated between Westport and Louisburgh it is convenient for the shops and beaches as well as a short drive to lots of places of interest.

The icecreams at Old Head Cafe are a must "the biggest we've ever had". The beach at old head is lovely with lovely clean sand and nice views.

My husband likes his fishing so Old Head and Lecanvey were very close and safe.

Would love to come again

house with the beautiful seaviews

  • 5 of 5

we had a family holiday in the house, what a great house had everything we needed and very clean, loads of space inside the house. my son has a wheelchair and was plenty of room space for him to get around. will be looking to book in the near future again. The views were amazing and how much ground you had around the outside of house was great. Was met at the house with the friends owner and any questions we had he was able to answer. The house would be a great place for many different people and of all ages.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your very kind words. We're very happy you enjoyed your stay and found the house provided for your needs. Yes, the views are incredible, even when the weather isn't at its best (but much better when it is). It would certainly be our pleasure to have you stay there again. Again, we appreciate your thoughtfulness in providing a review, especially one as positive as this. Marie

The house with spectacular views.

  • 5 of 5

Our stay was short but very comfortable, it felt like we were there more than five days. Great house plenty of room and very clean, well equipped it had every thing we needed and more. The views from the house are amazing, very private. With a phone call we made arrangements to meet someone who guided us straight to the property this was great and he was very helpful, everything was well organised and all my questions were answered by the owners of the property prior to our visit . The property is also in an ideal position for Louisburgh and Westport, I would highly recommend visiting the Tavern pub they do excellent food, and if your feeling energetic a walk up Croagh Patrick, do the pub after the walk though the food is so good you will be stuffed. We all had an excellent stay in Ireland, I would recommend this property to my family and friends an excellent place to stay.
