365 days a year:
Playa de Aro is an all year round resort so when the sun isn't scorching there are still many things to do. The town has a superb shopping street with wide sidewalks and street cafes and restaurants. There is a large modern bowling alley and a pitch 'n putt nine hole golf course. As well as the magnificent two-mile beach there is a coastal walkway that takes you round the many little coves that nestle into the rocks. The tourist office will provide you with maps of walkways and cycle paths. The shops attract local people at the weekends so you will find much more than souvenirs at surprisingly good prices. There are six large supermarkets and the shops are open all year. Just a few miles up the coast is the town of Palamos where you can go in the afternoon to buy fish just landed in the port. There is a bus stop just down from the house and the main bus station is about one kilometre. There is a good service to Barcelona, Girona and other local towns.
Getting around:
Playa de Aro is the nearest coastal town if you come in at Girona airport, easy to reach and easy to find. If you have a car it is the perfect centre to explore this part of Catalonia. Take a trip to the famous museum of painter Dali in Figueres and visit the incredible myriad selection of pottery and ceramics in La Bisbal. Have lunch in the medieval village of Peratallada. Don't miss the fishing port of Palamos. Watch the boats come in around five in the evening or visit the 'living' museum of fishing.
The local bus company SARFA have a good service to Barcelona and Girona as well as Palamos and other local towns.
Don't be afraid to use taxis. The service is good, the cars practically new, and the price much more reasonable than you might imagine. From Girona airport to the chalet costs 30 to 35 pounds depending on the time of day or night.
If you don't have a car:
Nearly everything you need is within walking distance and for the surrounding towns the bus stop is nearby. The best local market is Tuesday morning in Palamos or Friday in Playa de Aro itself. Taxis are remarkably cheap if you are three or more. There is a bus nearly every hour to Barcelona or Girona. When you make a booking we refer you to our own website which has super maps to show you both the local area and the surrounding towns. About 100 yards from the house is an Apartotel which has a supermarket, bar, restaurant and swimming pool. This is not directly associated with our house but is generally open to the public. (open May to Sept)
Golf:
This chalet is situated in the heart of the Emporda area of golf courses. There are five courses within a radius of 20 miles with the nearest, Mas Nou, just 2 miles away and for the novices a pitch'n putt at less than a mile on the edge of Platja d'Aro. The design of the house provides easy storage of clubs and caddies.
Other Activities:
There are ten golf or pitch and putt courses within 20 miles.
