Photos and Description of the Killarney vacation castle rental
Luxurious home steeped in history and character and with all modern amenities

Lakeview House & Estate is a luxurious private mansion directly on the world famous Lakes of Killarney.

Steeped in history and character, this elegant home is an ideal holiday destination. Whether you choose to enjoy all the House and Estate has to offer or to explore the region's scenery, golf, fishing and other activities, you will be spoilt for choice.

The House boasts wonderfully spacious living areas, all with high ceilings and impressive plasterwork: a Dining Room seating up to 18, a Drawing Room with an open fire and a very atmospheric Library with a wood burning stove. A very comfortable kitchen/breakfast room has steps out to the garden and there is a studio/playroom which works as a less formal sitting area.

There are 4 principal bedrooms sleeping 8 guests and 2 additional rooms for a further 3 guests. All have really comfortable beds to ensure you relax completely.

You can find further information about the house and its facilities on our website: www.lakeviewkillarney.com

P1: Being on the Killarney National Park, the stunning views have been protected from development: from the house you can see across the lake and mountains for miles with no sign of human habitation other than Ross Castle, a restored ruin beautifully lit for your benefit at night.

The estate covers over 100 acres with many private walks. Boat trips and fishing can be arranged from your doorstep and the surrounding area has fabulous walking, climbing, cycling, horse riding, golf, fishing and entertainment facilities.

The house was built in 1869 for the family of the present owners, kinsmen of Daniel O'Connell ('the Liberator'). It replaced an earlier house they had occupied since 1820, prior to which the land was owned by the MacCarthy family, the last of which line is the owner's mother. Other than 30 years, the family's occupation of the site goes back about 1000 years.

Killarney and the surrounding County of Kerry is, rightly, considered to be the premier tourist area in Ireland because of its natural beauty and tourism infrastructure. Surrounding a protected National Park with stunning mountains and lakes, the area has something for everyone: world class golf courses, walking, cycling, fishing, climbing, sightseeing, local festivals and gourmet food. The magical coastline (part of the famous 'Ring of Kerry') is nearby with beautiful beaches and sea fishing easily accessible. Lakeview House and Estate is directly on the National Park and is ideally placed for enjoying all the wonders the 'Kingdom of Kerry' has to offer.

Golf: Killarney Golf & Fishing Club, the venue of the 2010 and 2011 Irish Opens, is about 5 minutes away and can be seen from the house. The club has 3 18 hole courses and the O'Mahony's Point Course is acknowledged as having one of the most stunning settings of any course - happily, it is the same view that guests in our house also enjoy.

Beaufort Golf Course is a friendly local club about 10 minutes away and the respected old established Dooks course about 20 minutes away.

Further afield, the world famous links courses of Waterville and Ballybunion are about 1hr from the house.

Lakeview House

5 of 5
Submitted: April 17, 2013 Stayed: September 2012
In September 2012, our family had the pleasure of staying at Lakeview House for a week as part of our tour of Ireland. The magical view across Lough Leane, which we now know is the largest of the Lakes of Killarney, shifting constantly with the changing light, was hypnotic in its beauty! The house has a wonderful intimacy but with plenty of room for everyone to have their privacy too, which was perfect when we had friends to stay as guests. All the bedrooms were very comfortable and the owners have clearly spent a great deal of time and thought installing tasteful modern bathrooms and kitchen fittings. The house is packed with reminders of the history of the owner’s family and Ireland's famous 'Liberator', in particular. This was an unexpected and interesting plus for us and our guests. The housekeeper and the cook the owners recommended for a couple of evenings were both friendly and efficient, and the owners were always extremely accommodating when it came to any additional requests we had. One day, the owner organised for us to take a boat out onto the lake and visit a small island where the ruins of an early-Christian monastic library could still be seen, another magical moment. We were lucky with the weather but when it did rain, we and our guests would happily sit in the beautiful library to read. Our daughter loved the piano and our guests spent hours at the billiard table. Altogether staying at Lakeview was an unforgettable experience. We will definitely be recommending this house to family and friends.

Amazing Place!

5 of 5
Submitted: March 11, 2013 Stayed: September 2012
My family and I spent 2 weeks in Ireland at the end of last summer, the highlight of which was our stay at Lakeview House. We've travelled a fair bit over the years but have never stayed anywhere that had our jaws dropping as much as this - the views that change constantly from ominous grey to Mediterranean blue to red sunset are every bit as engrossing as the photos suggest.

The house itself is very gracious and comfortable ith huge rooms and full of centuries of family history everywhere you look. This is combined with modern works of art and furniture so that it feels fresh and up to date. Our favourite was the library filled with old books and a roaring wood burning stove. The owners have modernised the house and added levels of comfort and plumbing which were probably not there when it was first built!

I'll be back....

A Foretaste of Heaven

Submitted: March 8, 2013 Stayed: March 2012
A poem about Lakeview House & Estate written by Daniel MacSweeney who visited in around 1890

There's O'Connell's famed home on the Lower Lake shore
Where Nature has given her beauties galore.
They may talk of Versailles and its artful displays
And how Lake Maggiore has the sunniest days.
But, in rain or in shine, in hail or in tears,
There's no finer place in two hemispheres
To where lake views and mountains entwine o'er and o'er
At O'Connell's famed home on the Lower Lake shore.

Cold must be the heart and hard must be the mind
That, at Lakeview, contentment and peace cannot find.
Not alone has each Season attractions sublime,
But each day and each hour in the passage of time
Gives new views and delights as we wander along
Amid scenes to describe which, how poor is my song!
'Tis a foretaste of heaven, I cannot say more
Of O'Connell's famed home on the Lower Lake shore.
