Altea Villa

My family and I, six of us in all, spent one week in June in this beautiful villa near Altea. The only quibble I have regarding the description is that it wasn't clear that one of the bedrooms has bunk beds, otherwise the villa exceeded expectations: clean, comfortable and very well-equipped. There were sea views, but they were at quite a distance. The surrounding gardens were gorgeous, beautifully maintained, with plenty of space for everyone to have peace and privacy if required.
We had difficulty in finding the villa so I do recommend that you wait in the town to be picked up. You do need a car but don't make the mistake we did. We asked for a manual car but were given an automatic. The access roads are incredibly steep, and the entrance to the villa is at an awkward angle. We nearly had a nasty accident trying to get in as there was no handbrake to rely on!
The manager was very welcoming and the owner flexible in meeting our requests and provided us with lots of useful information on interesting places to visit, restaurants etc. We loved the Old Town which was very picturesque with lots of good restaurants. There is also a waterfall nearby which is worth a visit.
If you are willing to get up early and travel a bit, you could visit some interesting nearby cities, but we found the place so relaxing that we tended to stay at the villa, reading, swimming, sunbathing and chatting. We mostly ate in, taking advantage of being able to eat out in the open. If you are looking for exciting night life this is not the place for you, but if you want a relaxing, family holiday I would highly recommend it.
