Teils allein, teils mit meinem Freund habe ich Ende Maerz eine Woche an der Kueste Gales im Casa 88 verbracht.

Wir suchten ein Ausflugsziel, um so richtig zu entspannen, eine Pause vom sehr arbeitsreichen Alltag, jedoch mit Moeglichkeiten fuer Abenteuer, Ausarbeitung, viel Natur, gutem Essen, gutem Wein, idealerweise am Ozean, da wir beide aus der Mitte Deutschlands kommen.

Die Reise began allein. Angekommen auf dem Flughafen in Lissabon, nahm ich mein Mietauto in Empfang und auf gings. Zur Autobahn A2 (gen Sueden) zu finden war ein leichtes und die ca 140 km nach Melides / Gale Beach eine angenehme Fahrt. Man fuehlt sich wie auf der Autobahn, nur dass man die Geschwindigkeitsbegrenzung beachten sollte und Maut bezahlt. Der ca 20 km lange Teil von der A2 Abfahrt Richtung Melides bis Gale ist landschaftlich sehr huebsch und man wird gut auf die laendliche Atmosphaere eingestimmt. Angekommen in Gale wusste ich sofort, das Plaetzchen findet nicht jeder und es hat tatsaechlich was ganz besonderes. Die Steilkueste ist atemberaubend und ideal fuer ausgedehnte Spazierganege, zum Schwimmen, surfen etc - allein als auch gemeinsam. Da ich selbst gern meinen morgendlichen Laeufen froehne, hab ich den Pinienwald gleich hinter dem Haus auch etwas naeher ergruenden koennen und festgestellt, das er neben sehr gutem Terrain zum Laufen sich auch als eine Superquelle fuer Kaminholz eignet. Denn bei einem Feuer im Kamin wird es abends urgemuetlich.

Ausserdem hab ich als idealen Snack die hausgemacheten Suppen entdeckt, die es in jedem Restaurant und auch nebenan auf dem Campingplatz gibt – super lecker und immer frisch. Gemeinsam haben wir dann auch die Restaurants der Umgebung erkundet. Die traditionellen Fischgerichte sind durchweg lecker und die Hausweine / Weine der Region. Und das Brot ist ein Gedicht…mit oder ohne dem Kaese oder den Oliven, welche als Vorspeise gereicht werden.

Natuerlich wollten wir unsre neugewonnene Lust auf die protugiesische Kueche mal selbst ausprobieren; so haben wir dank der Hilfe unsrer Vermieterin ein leckres Rezept und frischen Fisch vom Markt erhalten und einen gebackenen Fisch a la Portuguese zubereitet in unsrer Casa 88. Fuer uns die perfekte Abrundung einer gelungenen Woche Abenteuer und Seele-baumeln-lassen in Gale Beach, dem gut-gehueteten Geheimtipp.

Classic space. Amazing comfort. All the mod-cons you need... Lovely clean and well maintained house with lots of style... Five minutes walk to the beach. Great for a large group - we had 4 adults and 3 kids in the one house... Summer camp nearby with fun things to do and great Portugese food... Lots of restaurants dotted around the area - seafood galore...!! A day of golf in the Algarve - a night out in Lisbon and the rest of the time on the beach and in and around the holiday cottage - villa!! Ana Maria - the owner was very helpful in assisting us with everything we needed and we simply had one of the simplest and most wonderful holidays ever!! We flew in from Faro - but also possible from Lisbon airport... One needs a car - but they are cheap as chips in Portugal, though the drivers are quite nuts!! Already booked for next year - only wish there were more places in the same complex as we'd like to take a group of 15 friends (adults and kids) for a magical time by the sea...!! Yahho for March 2012... :)

Off the beaten path, merely 130 km south of Lisbon and with easy access to the highway:

Praia da Gale close to the village of Melides, means endless white sand beaches fringed by the Atlantic Ocean on one side and majestic cliffs on the other.

Golf: The Troia Golf course is located approximately 30 Kms from Gale/Melides.

The holes are laid out on the dunes whilst magnificent pine woods line most of the fairways on the inland side. Whilst playing the player has charming views across the sand to the magnificent blue Atlantic. The first hole provides a par-5 with a green protected by no less than eight bunkers! The par-4 on the third hole is considered outstanding by many golfers. As the fairways tend to be narrow accuracy is imperative in order to score well. The renowned 18th hole has claimed many a victim on their point of glory - happily for the failed golfer the clubhouse is very close.
