Amazing villa and great location

  • 5 of 5
This place was wonderful! There were 9 of us staying and we had more than enough room. The yard was beautiful and so much room for kids to run around and play. We ate dinner on the back patio several nights. Hugh fireplace in the den with plenty of firewood. Even though it was May and warm during the day, it stayed quite cool inside and we had a fire most evenings. Everything was clean and it was well stocked. The kitchen was very large. The owner was delightful and easy to contact. It was not a far drive to Pompeii, Amalfi coast, Sorento, Salerno, Naples and other places. Local grocery and butcher shop were walking distance and very helpful, although not much English spoken. Great to have a washing machine, too! We stayed a full week and would absolutely stay there again and will recommend it every chance we get.

A great base for exploring Campagna

  • 5 of 5
We were greeted by Mr Fasulo and his family and made to feel very welcome. Villa Mimosa is a lovely large house, set in the middle of Calvanico a small Italian village quite high up in the hills. The garden is large and enclosed, ideal for sunbathing and relaxing. Inside it is well equipped, the TV has only terrestrial stations in Italian so for entertainment suggest you bring your own DVD’s, travel adapters and books.

Calvanico is well situated for day trips to Pompeii, Paestum, Vesuvius, the Royal Palace at Caserta and the Amalfi coast. Do bring a good map as well as your sat nav, there are lots of guide books and leaflets in the house but do your homework first on where to go and how to get there. Also, driving along the Amalfi coast road is not for the faint hearted, particularly at weekends. Finally on motoring if you are hiring a car from Naples airport, turn right out of the car hire parking back towards the airport terminal, not left as we did. Be wary and before you leave insist on a close inspection by their staff to accurately record any damage on the booking sheet, even the minor scratch. They may be reluctant to do this but insist because when you return rest assured they will examine every inch of the car in detail.

We found the locals in the village shops and restaurant to be very helpful, there was no English spoken but with a smile, an attempt to speak Italian and pointing we got by with no problems. If you are looking for a bigger store then there is a SISA supermarket in Mercato San Severino down the SS266 which offers a larger choice. (in the Zone Commerziale on your left). If you are eating or walking outside in the evening suggest you bring some mosquito protection (containing deet) as they were quite hungry during our stay.

We hope you enjoy your stay, we wished we could have stayed longer and had more time to explore the hills and more inland areas.

beautiful villa ideal for the Amalfi coast

  • 4 of 5
we stayed in this charming house for a week in mid september. Its is in the hills above Salerno and a few degrees cooler. A very large villa, well equipped, it is within easy reach by car of Salerno and then all of the Amalfi coast.
There are huge grounds, ideal for a family, full of fruit and nut trees. We were met by the villa owners who kept in touch by text message and email beforehand, with good joining instructions.
Highly recommended

This place is much better than what it looks like in the pictures. It's huge!!!a big yard with a lot of room to cook out and for kids to run around. When i saw it at first i was left without words, Mr Donato kept showing me around but i didn't know what to say. It's a castle...a beautiful dream, the vacation that we all deserve ;) if you decide to book it you won't be disappointed

Real Italian villa in a real Italian town

  • 5 of 5
My family of 5 from Largs, Scotland stayed at this villa in July 2012.

Donato and his father met us and gave us a rundown of the place.

The villa is huge, the kids couldnt believe the space we had in the house and in the garden. We set up a swimming pool which kept hem entertained for hours.

The village of Calvanico is bit of a trek to find the first time, but once you have mastered the route it is only about 20 mins to Salerno and 30 mins to the Amalfi coast.

The villa had every kitchen utensil you could ever require and the villa had near enough a shower for each person. The place was spotless and the garden well manicured which made it feel very welcoming.

There is a great restaurant 5 mins walk away and the locals are vey friendly.
The views from the villa of the mountains are spectacular.

The narrow streets are a bit daunting for driving at first, but they add to the experience of sampling life in an Italian village.

As we stayed in summer, air con would have been a useful addition, but being in the mountains it wasnt stifling hot.

We had a great time in this villa, it is a very relaxing place to laze about and pass the day in even if you dont want to go out for the day.

bellesimo

Our son was racing in the 3rd round of the U18 World Championships in Sarno, Naples in November 2011. I searched the internet for somewhere that was close by and also a place we could come home to after a chaotic day at the track and unwind. My search brought me to Villa Mimosa, descriptions and photos do not justify this place. We were given the instructions on how to get to the Villa and thought when we were driving up the mountains from Sarno that we had the wrong directions. Not knowing what to expect when we parked the car I knocked on the door and we were greeted by Donato's son and his girlfriend who were there to meet us. After our initial shock of this amazing and beautiful Villa that I had stumbled upon on the internet we were shown around and told how everything worked. Before leaving they gave us a bottle of local wine and locally made biscuits. The Villa is situated in a small village in the mountains surrounded by a beautiful private garden and was once the servants quarters to the main house which sadly is now in disrepair. It has been beautifully refurbished and its what you would expect a Italian Villa to be like. The kitchen was a favorite place of ours with an open fire place which was lit most nights. The Villa is also centrally heated. I could go on about this place it is truly beautiful, we found the people in the village were also very friendly and helpful. If you want a place to stay and experience Italy then I recommend Villa Mimosa. definately 5 stars
