Reykjavik City: Reykjavik City area Reykjavik is a great place to visit, whether for some cultural nourishment, a spot of unbridled fun or to recharge your batteries. The vast, beautiful landscape around Reykjavik lends itself to innumerable outdoor activities. Visitors to Reykjavik will be impressed by the city’s proximity to nature and struck by the cleanliness of the city itself.
Laugardalur: From the apartament it is a nice walking tour to Laugardalur, where we recomend a visit to geothermical pool in the valley.
Laugardalur (Hot Spring Valley) is a major centre for sports and recreation in the capital. In Laugardalur you will find a the largest outdoor thermal pool in Reykjavik, Laugardalslaug, in which you can swim all year round.
Laugardalur also has free entry to our beautiful Botanical Garden, with woods, ponds and birdlife. Beneath the branches the lovely Café Flora is a hidden gem.
At the edge of the Laugardalur valley, not far from Laugardalur Arena, is a strangely shaped, domed white building. It is known as the Reykjavik Art Museum’s Ásmundarsafn sculpture collection. This used to be the studio of Asmundur Sveinsson (1893-1982), a pioneer of Icelandic sculpture. In addition to his works exhibited inside the museum, a sculpture garden outside contains many of his monumental works.
VIdey: Why not see Reykjavik from a different angle and take a visit to the historical and beutiful Island of Videy which you can see from the apartment. The ferry is in a walking distance (10 min) by the harbour near the apartment.
We really enjoyed our stay, the bus was super convenient and easy, we took it to downtown Reykjavik. The grocery store and bakery/cafe had everything we needed and we walked there nearly every day. The apartment itself was very clean, comfortable and we loved the well stocked kitchen for our breakfasts and a couple of suppers. We enjoyed our holiday in Iceland and it was wonderful having a place to come "home" to! The owner went out of their way to meet us here earlier to give us the key and for that we were VERY appreciative, we have three teens in tow and packing around our luggage in a foreign city for hours after a long over night flight would NOT have been fun. However, because they were willing to accommodate us, we were able to go upstairs and have a nap before seeing the sights! Thank you, we will be back!
Lovely living room with plenty of space. Plenty of light from the big windows and lovely having a balcony. The second bedroom is quite compact and gets a little stuffy with the door shut.
Organisation from the owners was first class - fast and clear.
Loads of cutlery and crockery etc - the knives were of a good standard also.
Fantastic base for touring the south east of Iceland
The apartment is well-equipped, comfortable and clean. Everything is just as stated in the description and the kitchen in particular, generously provided us with everything we needed for cooking meals.
The location is rather far from the city centre, but quite a pleasant walk and it is also easily reachable by bus or car, with free parking available just a few streets away from the main shopping street. The apartment is quiet with good views of the mountains in the distance and it is easy to reach the main roads to get out of the city when visiting other areas in Iceland.
For food shopping, there are a couple of supermarkets across the road from the apartment, which is very handy. Recycling is available at the nearby petrol station.
We really enjoyed our visit to Iceland and would love to return as there were so many things we did not have time to visit.
I would definitely recommend the apartment to anyone who does not simply want to stay in the city but wants to travel a bit further than Reykjavik itself as it is a very good base for visiting the south and west of the country.
The only negative thing I would say about the apartment is that the bathroom waste bin had not been emptied since the previous tenant, but this was probably an oversight. All in all, excellent value for money.
Laugardalur means “Hot Spring Valley”. This is a quiet and nice area located more or less 3 km away from the city centre. Here you will be able to see the Family Park and Zoo (open all year), the biggest outdoor thermal Pool in Reykjavik called Laugardalslaug, the Botanical Garden (Grasagarðurinn), some museums, the sport stadium, etc. You can also find the shopping area of Holtagardar with a supermarket and other facilities.
