In the heart of the historic center of Rome, in the Monti district, the seat of Roman nightlife, served by restaurants, pubs, boutiques and theaters, delightful and romantic apartment situated a stone's throw from the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Trevi Fountain, the second floor of a former convent of 1700. Very bright and quiet, completely renovated, elegantly furnished and equipped with every comfort (Washing machine, Air Conditioning, TV and DVD stereo and high speed Internet access Wi-Fii) with living room with kitchenette, bedroom and bathroom. Perfect location to visit Rome on foot. Metro and bus stop at 100 meters, car sharing in the home. Connecting airport Fiumicino and Ciampino to 300 meters.
I read the previous bad review with interest. It nearly put me off booking this apartment. Having stayed here I can say that whilst there are some aspects that are less than perfect it makes a good base for a sightseeing holiday to Rome.
First the negatives. The apartment is very small. On first entering it feels claustrophobic. It has, however, been well equipped and the standard of fittings in the apartment are good.
The sofa bed is not the best, nor is it the worst we have slept in. Despite what seemed to be uncomfortable my wife and I both slept well in the apartment. It is a very quiet street and there was no street noise, nor noise from other apartments in the block.
As others have said the location is great, just 10 minutes from many of the main tourist sights and with excellent restaurants just a few paces from the door.
Our biggest annoyance was not with the apartment but with the key to the apartment block which was extremely difficult to use. Either the key needs to be re-cut or the door lock needs replacing. We struggled to gain entry to the apartment block whenever we returned.
Overall, however, this is a place I would recommend as a base for a couple wanting to have somewhere close to the tourist attractions (and the railway station).
Was the worst experience of our life. I'm not sure how Home Away allows this place to be registered with them. There is a lot that isn't accurate. They claim it is 30 sq m, we stayed in another property 70 sqm and it was at least 5 times bigger and another stated 28 sqm and was at least double the size. The so called 'orthopaedic' mattress on the sofa bed had coils and lumps sticking in our backs. The air conditioner didn't work. Washing machine water spills out on to the floor, and their description is simply not accurate! Car sharing supposedly????? Close to the colosseum is prob the only accurate part! The owner had arranged for me to text when at airport with luggage and they would be there to greet us at apartment. I did this and arrived and waited almost an hour in a lane way with nowhere to sit and after several unanswered texts I rang to enquire where they were. They then sent some guy who couldn't speak English to let us in and collect our money. (No customer service whatsoever) I had arranged and booked 2 nights (which was the min) and then another night 3 days later and was paying 2 lots of cleaning fees so they could rent the apartment in between! Well when we saw the apartment and the size of it and the Inaccuracy of it I said we would only stay the 2 nights but not the extra night and I would still pay the cleaning fee. They wouldn't accept this and with a lot of nasty texts from owner and trying to communicate with the greeter I just refused to stay the 3rd night and paid what I owed and left it at that. We had the worst 2 nights in this hot, stuffy, dreary, tiny apartment and then as we had to leave at 6am to meet a pre-arranged tour had to lock keys in apartment on checkout. We did this and no sooner had we locked the 3 or 4 doors/gates we realised we had left our passports inside. I immediately text or rang the owner as we couldn't go on tour without and said i would pay if he came and unlocked the apartment to which he either ignored or threatened to call police. I even got someone from the tour departure point to call and speak in Italian to no avail. We missed our tour and eventually almost 5 hrs later someone came and unlocked and we retrieved our passports but too late for tour. I'm not sure what the requirements are to be registered with Home Away and whether each place is physically checked but this was our first one and it left a very sour taste. All other Home Away bookings have been fantastic, just not this one!
Me and my boyfriend stayed in this apartment for 3 nights in October and it was lovely. It has everything you would need in working order, is clean, comfortable and has been decorated beautifully. The owners were helpful and friendly. It is also well located; 5mins from the train and bus stations and situated near a wonderful street (think it's called Via Cavour) lined with trendy cafes, bars and boutiques. There is also a supermarket nearby which is convenient for self-catering.
The apartment were I am confident you will find that as convenient location is in the heart of quarter Monti, historical centre of Roma. The building is in area of 16th century, in the ancient 'suburra'.Quarter Monti is very particular because it rises on foundation of Roman age. The 'suburra' was the quarter were lived romans and slaves .
