The Painted Lady: Classic 1880 Queen Anne Victorian Flat

Experience the best that San Francisco has to offer in this 1500 square foot, classic, Queen Anne Victorian flat. It is perfectly located in the "heart" of the city, and a short two blocks from Alamo Square Park (home to the famous "Painted Ladies"). Along with being dog-friendly, the city views from this park make it the most photographed and filmed location in San Francisco.

Also within strolling distance are trendy restaurants and cafes, great shopping, and interesting attractions, including the famous Haight Ashbury District and the Castro. Or use our public transportation conveniently located steps away to discover the rest of the city. Museums, theatres, and most other attractions are within a short bus ride.

A perfect choice for a romantic getaway, vacationing with family or friends, or for the business traveler. The flat offers a large master bedroom with luxurious bedding on a queen bed, a smaller bedroom with another queen bed with equally lovely bedding, and two new, comfortable sleeper sofas (one in the formal living room and one in the family room) each equipped with a feather bed top. All sleeping areas can be completely closed off from other rooms for privacy. If you choose to test your own culinary talents, our spacious and fully-equipped kitchen will offer you everything you need; including a formal dining area that seats eight.

Jim is a second generation San Franciscan and Janice certainly feels like a native after moving to this amazing city over 15 years ago. Having lived all over the city and experiencing the different personalities of each area, they decided to settle in the vibrant Alamo Square Historic District. This section of San Francisco has one of the highest concentrations of Victorian homes and they were thrilled to purchase their own "Painted Lady" 6 years ago.

Janice purchased this apartment in 2005

Although once an impressive 3 level single family home, at some point this magnificent 1880 Queen Anne Victorian mansion was tastefully divided into 2 units (with an absolutely charming apartment off the back garden added later). With our lab mix Brodie, we occupy the top level apartment, with the flat conveniently located on the first level. Given the ideal location for accessing all the sites of the city as well as what this neighborhood itself has to offer, we knew the flat would be a perfect vacation rental.

Perfect for a family getaway. Close to great restaurants, bars and coffee shops. The owners are nice and easy to work with. Jim greeted us on the street at arrival and was very nice and informative. Would love to return.

The Painted Lady provided nine women a FABULOUS place to stay while in San Francisco for the Nike Women's Run in October. We flew in from 4 locations across the country (Wisconsin, Connecticut, New Jersey, and Massachusetts) for a great long weekend of fun and running. The house worked extremely well for our group, allowing us to be together in one place while having ample room to sleep and shower. It was far more economical and convenient than other lodging options. We loved the back deck in the afternoons! The Painted Lady was central to everything we wanted to do, an easy cab ride or walk to any part of the city. We were able to meet our daily needs for groceries, coffee and quick eats within 1-2 blocks of the house. We even notice "The Mill", a coffee shop we frequented down the street, in a national TV commercial now that we are home (Small Business Saturday November 30: Coffee and Community commercial). The communication we had with Janice and Jim about our stay was very helpful, timely and thorough. Thank you to them for making our trip so special by providing this house. Highly recommend The Painted Lady!

Absolutely wonderful place to stay in San Francisco!

Four friends from high school gathered thirty-five years later for a girls' weekend at this lovely home. We had a fantastic time staying in Jim and Janice's home, as it was located next to some great restaurants (Blue Jay Café across the street and Eddie's diner down the street), grocery stores, and public transportation. It is walking distance to Alamo Square, Haight Ashbury, and Golden Gate Park. We were always able to find parking a block behind the house, so that wasn't an issue. The pictures do not do the home justice; it is charming, and you feel a sense of history staying here. It is so much nicer than a hotel!

Last few days in SF

2 couples rented this apartment for our last few days in SF. There are 2 large lounges, 1 with a dining table and chairs. There are 2 double bedrooms, 1 OK but the other barely has room to walk round the bed, no cupboards, shelves or wardrobes. There are 2 small bathrooms, 1 of which needed the plunger ( conveniently kept in a bucket by the side of the toilet ) to flush away the waste as mostly the toilet-flush didn't work. There were no wine glasses and no dish drying cloths. The whole apartment was grim to say the least. The walls of the lounge were painted in ghastly green paint. Parking was a nightmare ( 2 hours maximum in lots of areas 0

We were a group of six adults (three couples: the parents and the two sons + their ladies) meeting in San Francisco from three different cities to celebrate a 35-year wedding anniversary and spend the long Memorial Day weekend together. This pretty Painted Lady fit the bill! The flat was large and spacious, allowing us to all spread out and have our own space, yet it had a "family room" that was large enough for us all to gather in and a very large dining table at which we could all sit and have plenty of room the night we chose to dine in. Having two bathrooms was excellent!
The house was very easy to find and very conveniently located to mass transit stops (1/2 block!). The flat was clean, well-mainted, and charming. We appreciated the information regarding the neighborhood that the owners sent us. Wi-fi worked great. All financial questions were answered in a very timely manner.
We look forward to returning to the City by the Bay and this Painted Lady. We would heartily recommend it to anyone.
