DESIGNER ONE-BEDROOM - ARC DE TRIOMPHE & PONCELET MARKET

Ternes Apartment Rental Photos and Description

Apartment, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-4)

This spacious, air-conditioned one-bedroom apartment is on the 4th french floor (5th floor US) with elevator of an upscale 1930’s secure building equipped with two digicodes and located right at the foot of the Arc de Triomphe monument next to the Champs Elysées. This chic neighborhood boasts many wonderful shops and restaurants, so you'll have everything to hand.

The layout consists of an entrance that leads to the living room, the kitchen and the toilet. The living room opens onto the bedroom and bathroom.

We have just finished renovating and redecorating the apartment and are delighted with the results. It is decorated in an elegantly minimalist contemporary style, luxuriously finished in soft matching beige and gray linens, with wall-to-wall pale gray carpets.

The living room has a big wide-screen TV with DVD player (movies provided) and a high-end Hi-Fi system.

The bedroom features a beautifully welcoming queen-size bed, dressing table/desk with a leather chair and ample custom fitted closets.

The apartment faces a very quiet courtyard and is remarkably peaceful despite the lively area location.

The kitchen is fully equipped for daily use, and the bathroom features a bathtub with wall-mounted shower handle, shower curtain, and an original 1930’s washbasin.

The central location of the apartment is exceptional for its sightseeing possibilities, its grand carved stone architecture and also for the lively Ternes area. This fashionable district, with its rue Poncelet open market, enjoys a village-like ambiance.

The streets and café terraces are alive with a cosmopolitan mix of trend-setters, chic professionals and visitors from around the world.

Within a five-minute walking range, you will find many shopping opportunities as well as an exceptional choice of fine restaurants, including the world renowned Michelin-starred Restaurant Guy Savoy, the gastronomical Bistro de l'Etoile, the Coste-designed La Grande Armée, and many more that we will be sure to warmly recommend to you.

Come sundown, the area around the Champs Elysées becomes one of Paris' focal points, buzzing with bars, restaurants, cinemas and nightclubs. This area is also the epicentre of the New Year celebrations in Paris.

To venture further, the multiple-mainline metro station, Etoile, is just next to the apartment and offers direct access to Paris' other prime sights such as the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, and the Louvre museum.

Why Carole Decaix-Wagner chose Ternes

The Champs-Elysées, located in the 8th district, remains the city's - if not the world's - most famous avenue and a must to visit if you come to Paris over the Christmas season or on July 14th, the French national holiday. The avenue caters to everyone with fast-food joints and chain stores to luxury eateries like Ladurée. There are cinemas, discotheques and bars galore. At the top of the Champs-Elysées stands the imposing Arc de Triomphe, Napoléon's monument to himself. Take a deep breath and climb to the top for an incredible view of the Etoile (star) of avenues below, circling the Arc de Triomphe. At the other end of the Champs, the beautifully restored Grand Palais hosts some of the city's most splendid art exhibitions. Across the street, the permanent art collection is free at the Petit Palais. The Asian art collection at the Musée Guimet on the avenue Kléber is well worth a visit.

What makes this apartment unique

This spacious one-bedroom is on the 4th floor (elevator) of an upscale 1930’s building, right at the foot of the Arc de Triomphe monument, next to the Champs Elysées. This chic neighbourhood boasts many wonderful shops and restaurants, so you'll have everything to hand.

The interior design is bold and contemporary, luxuriously finished in soft matching beige suedes and natural linens. The room is perfect for relaxing after a long day, or for entertaining. Equipment includes widescreen cable TV & DVD (films provided), playing through a hi-fi with top of the range column speakers.

The bedroom features a beautifully welcoming queen-size double bed, dressing table / desk with leather chair and large custom fitted wardrobes. The bedroom faces the courtyard, ensuring remarquably peaceful nights.

Excellent find

  • 5 of 5
This apartment is in a wonderful location for visiting Paris. Close to the Metro, and easy commute to various sites and neighborhoods. The apartment itself is in a more established and quiet neighborhood, though the shops of the Champs Elysee are within easy walking distance. The rooms are clean and roomy, and the apartment is well equipped. The owners make it easy to get from the airport, and provide all the information needed to get oriented to the neighborhood. Would gladly stay here again.

The location was great

  • 2 of 5
The location was great, right near to transportation and places to get food, etc. The bed in the bedroom portion of the room because this is really a studio apartment with glass doors separating the bed from the rest of the room, was very comfortable and the sheets of a good quality. The sofa bed was not very comfortable to sleep on as the mattress was extremely thin. If you need air to keep the apartment comfortable you give up quiet by having the window open. The man across the courtyard hangs over his balcony smoking and coughing way into the wee hours of the night. When he coughs it shakes the whole courtyard. That can go too for when someone throws away bottles or other trash. It echoes throughout the courtyard. The first night we were there someone across the way had a party until very late at night. So all in all we did not have peaceful rests. The apartment was much darker in reality than the pictures show and the hallway is painted black. The bathroom/ toilet situation was awkward to say the least and when the plunger came off the handle we were forced to pour water down the toilet to flush. Getting into the tub was tricky and not good for older people. The tea kettle did not work and we were never able to speak to anyone for help although we were able to e-mail them. Had I been there alone I would not have had that capability. We were somewhat disappointed with the place and would not come back if we were to return to Paris.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to send feedback.

In response to the points you raise:

- the apartment is a proper one-bedroom and not a studio ; simply the large double doors that separate the bedroom can advantageously be left fully open to provide a much greater feeling of space. Or can be left closed. This is one of the best features of the apartment and, as such, is illustrated particularly clearly in the photographs, with the doors shown in several different positions...

- we have never before had feedback about a coughing man in the building, and our guests usually report having very quiet nights. Perhaps this gentleman had a passing affliction?

- while annoying, parties can sometimes occur in a capital city like Paris ; it goes with the territory. Thankfully, such parties do remain very rare occurences and our building is on the whole very peaceful by Paris standards. Peace and quiet remains a strong suit of this apartment.

- now that recycling is obligatory in Paris, and because the building bins are almost always located in the courtyards, there is indeed brief noise when bottles are fed into their alotted recycling container. This is normal and to be expected in Paris.

- should there be a temporary noise (party, etc.), the windows can be closed because the air will have been chilled by the A/C unit.

- the apartment is of normal brightness for a 4th floor courtyard-facing apartment. It is neither bathed in light (nor advertised as such) nor at all dim or dark.

- the small entrance hall is painted prune (not black), to give it some style and character ; darker tones work in small non-living spaces. This prune color (not black) is exactly as shown in the photographs so should not have been a surprise, and the entrance is well lit, so we are unsure why this is mentioned in the review, except as a matter of personal preference?

- the lavatory flush has been repaired and we apologize for the inconvenience. We were alerted on the sunday and this was promptly repaired the very next day, on the monday (day of departure of these guests).

- we received an email asking for help with the tea kettle "How do you turn on the tea pot?", to which we replied the next day with instructions (in addition to those already provided in the apartment guide) and finishing with "Let me know if you need further assistance". We did not hear back and when we subsequently tested the tea kettle we found it to work ok.

Great Apartment....Wonderful Location

  • 5 of 5
My wife and I stayed at this apartment for a week. This was our first trip to Paris and our first VRBO experience. Both were outstanding. The apartment was everything it was advertised to be.....clean, quiet, secure and with every convenience imaginable. Each evening, we used the free wi-fi to plan the next day's activities. It worked perfectly. Free telephone service to the USA was great as it allowed us to keep in contact with family back home. You can bring half the amount of clothes you need when staying at a hotel because halfway through the trip you just avail yourself of the easy-to-use washer & dryer. The location was wonderful. Walk out the front door, turn right and you're about a block from the Arc de Triomphe. Right around the corner is an entrance to the Charles de Gaulle – Étoile metro station. This station is on Line 1, which runs to many of the tourist destinations without needing to change trains. For easy access to the CDG airport, the Air France bus is also right around the corner. And, of course, you are steps away for the famous Champs-Élysées, with everything from Louis Vuitton and Tiffany & Co. to McDonald's.
Renting the apartment was easy. After the initial contact via VRBO, we simply communicated with the owner by email. She was very responsive. We were greeted upon our arrival by one of her associates who explained the operation of everything from the elevator (lift) to the television service. There is also an "instruction book" at the apartment which also explains how to use all the appliances. The bottle of wine and bowl of fresh fruit were nice touches and made us feel very welcome.

You should consider this your home while in Paris. I wouldn't hesitate to go back to this property again.

Excellent location

  • 5 of 5
My partner and I stayed at Carole's apartment for 5 days. It was everything promised. The location could not have been better for exploring the city. The access to public transportation could not have been easier, and the neighborhood was vibrant. The building security system felt very safe; internet access was fast and very reliable. I would not hesitate to stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone needing a 1-bedroom apartment.

Excellent Apartment!

  • 5 of 5
My wife and I rented this apartment for a week in April-May. From the start, the owner was very accomodating and professional - quickly confirming our dates and allowing for easy and efficient payment.

The apartment itself is large, nicely decorated, and well-appointed. It has everything you need, including guidebooks and a useful binder put together by the owner with instructions on the use of all appliances as well as excellent suggestions for local restaurants and shopping. There is a full-sized refrigerator and a complete kitchen. There is also a washer and dryer, which is such a great feature - allowing us to limit our wardrobe packing and accounting for those times that the excellent French cuisine/wine found its way onto my shirts!

The location is ideal - close to a Metro station (literally within a 2-3 minute walk), outdoor markets, cafes, and shopping. Overall, I highly recommend this apartment and would happily stay there again.
