Character apartment building close to the river and historic Pont Vieux in Centre of Carcassonne. The building including all communal areas has been totally renovated to offer a selection of four one bedroom apartments and one two bedroom apartment furnished to a very high standard with new fitted kitchens. All mod cons including English Satellite TV and WiFi internet.
Well established, friendly English owners living locally.
Property owners offer free pick up from Carcassonne Airport or train station with supermarket stop en route.
The apartments are accessed via a traditional winding French staircase tiled with terre cuite tiles. There are two one bedroom apartments on the first floor and two one bedroom apartments on the second floor. On the third floor, the two bedroom apartment has its own shaded roof terrace for outdoor eating with a lovely view of the castle.
We offer discounts for bookings of more than one apartment and also for longer stays. Each of the one bedroom apartments are equipped with dining furniture for four people. Friends can book two one bedroom apartments on the same floor so they have their own space and en suite bathroom whilst being able to eat and socialize together.
Rue du Pont Vieux is a prime location as it is located within a few minutes walk of Carcassonne town centre and Carcassonne Tourist Office. Two UNESCO World Heritage sites- Carcassonne Cite and the Canal du Midi are also within a few minutes walk from rue du Pont Vieux.
We wanted to keep to a French theme when naming the apartments so we decided to name them after some of Napoleon Bonaparte's most famous Peninsula Marshalls - Ney, Mortier, Suchet, Marmont and Massena.
We moved to this region 15 years ago from Herefordshire in the Uk.
We fancied a change as Jason was often away from home with his work in sales and contracting. We have renovated several properties in and around Carcassonne for rental which we take great pleasure from meeting guests from all over the world.
Annette also has a small but very busy hair salon in our village of Escueillens in the beautiful Razes countryside just outside Carcassonne.
We have three children, James (21) who is training at the C.N.E.S in Toulouse, Charlotte (18) who is studying at University in the UK and Samuel (15) who is at Lycee in Castelnaudary. Our children often help us out with changeovers during holidays and weekends.
Jason or Annette Carr purchased this apartment in 2006
We selected this property from local knowledge and advice from a Notaire in Carcassonne.
It is the ideal location in Carcassonne between the Cite and the town centre. We wanted to buy a building to renovate and to retain character but also to modernise.
Having heard so many horror stories of rental properties with dodgy electrics and plumbing and poorly maintained communal areas, we realised that renovating an apartment building from scratch meant we could ensure all of our properties meet with current norms and hopefully avoid maintenance issues which might affect guests.
We carried out a lot of the work ourselves, hence it took us several years to complete but we have achieved our aim of providing modern, well equipped apartments with character.
Ideal position between Carcassonne town centre and Cite so walking distance to all ameneties.
The right balance of modern, comfortable apartments with character. Things that really matter and make a difference according to our guests are extremely comfortable beds, well equipped kitchens, fast internet and free pick up from airport or train station.
We always aim to be professional, friendly and down to earth landlords who strive to ensure our guests have a fantastic stay in Carcassonne.
My husband and I (and our MinPin, Sami) loved our long-term let with Jason and Annette. The Suchet apartment has been the perfect size for our retirement abroad.
We really enjoy the location, just minutes from everything . . . Pont Vieux, La Cite (or the castle as we call it), Gambetta Square, Place Carnot, Belvedere Park (a lovely spot along the Aude River), Canal du Midi, restaurants, wine bars, shopping, train station and the very friendly folks at the tourist office. Carcassonne has events throughout the year and the location is perfect for a chance to see everything. There is even music to be enjoyed when one of the neighborhood vendors has an outside event, as long as the windows are open . . . when closed, it’s quiet inside!
Being retired expats from the US we have been grateful for all of the modern conveniences; the wireless Internet connection which helps us stay in touch with family and friends, dishwasher, and washer/dryer combo. The oven was a surprise as our pre-move research suggested that not all apartments are equipped with them. We especially liked the corner shower with the rounded shower doors and adjustable shower head in the bathroom.
I especially liked the small touches, a broom and dust-pan, vacuum cleaner, blowdryer (with the correct plug!) and the towel warmer. The entire apartment is well appointed with just enough of everything, towels, dishes, serving ware, flatware, glasses, coffee-maker and electric kettle.
The apartment has an open floor plan with high ceilings and has some of the original features skillfully incorporated into the remodel and upgrade. In fact, be sure to take a look at the original, hand-carved stair railing leading up to the apartment.
The tall, shuttered windows in both the living area and the bedroom open up to allow plenty of light and fresh air and close tight enough to keep out cooler weather. The window seat in the living area is a great spot to enjoy a morning coffee.
Though only a one bedroom apartment, there is a convertible couch in the living area which doubles as a second bed. Our guests have commented that it was very comfortable with plenty of leg room.
The ground floor entry offers an extra level of security for the entire building.
Jason and Annette are wonderful people and have made our stay in Carcassonne very enjoyable. We highly recommend the Suchet apartment for vacation or long-term stay.
We had a wonderful few days in Carcassonne. We travelled to Carcassonne on the train after a view days in Paris and were met by Jason at the train station (lovely extra touch they provide) and brought to Suchet Apartment.
The apartment is on the first floor and it looks exactly as in the pictures provided and the descriptions provided were entirely accurate. The apartment is fitted out to a high standard and was spotlessly clean. Our only tiny, tiny issue was that we felt the base of the bed needs extra slats/support as we found we rolled into the middle of it during the night - but a comfy bed otherwise!
The apartment is located on a narrow side street that is so easy to walk to all areas of the town. Upon exiting to the left of the apartment it is an approx 15 min (mostly uphill) stroll to the old walled Cite with stunning views of the old Cite from the Pont Vieux Bridge (1 min walk). To the right of the apartment it is less than 10 mins to reach the town square with lots of quaint narrow streets, cafes, bars and shops.
On arrival, Jason recommended a Tapas bar that had recently opened and is popular with the locals. It is just over the Pont Vieux Bridge on the left hand side, so we decided to give it a try as we didn't want to cook or have a large restaurant meal that evening. The food was delicious and reasonably priced with friendly staff. So I would recommend it certainly if you are looking for more than an evening snack but not a full meal!
We spent most days in the old Cite and it is absolutely breathtaking! Lots of shops, restaurants, cafes and sightseeing on tap! I highly recommend going.
The weather was sunny approx 18-21 degrees each day and the evenings a little cooler but didn't require a coat - a light jacket would suffice. The approx range of tourists were around retirement age - so this is not a place to go to if you are looking for clubbing all night! Romantic getaway and relaxation with breathtaking views?? - then absolutely, this is one destination I would highly recommend.
All in all we will return to Carcassonne again and gladly stay in Suchet or other apartments belonging to Jason & Annette as we felt the location and apartment was absolutely perfect for us.
We've just come back from a 4 night stay. Jason and Annette were excellent hosts and made us very welcome.
The apartment is fitted out to a high standard and was spotlessly clean.
Well located to walk to all areas of the town, we enjoyed the market, walking along the Canal Du Midi, visiting the Cite, lunch overlooking the river with food from the market.Railway station is 10 minutes walk, and took the train for a day in Tolouse.
A very relaxing few days, and we would have no hesitation in recommending.
Jason and Annette really made us feel welcome. The place was spotlessly clean and really well equipped. I would certainly recommend and hope to be back soon. The descriptions provided were entirely accurate. It was ideal as a couple with a young family to be able to visit the old town and also be only a stone's throw away from the new town. We had good recommendations from the owners on where to eat and really enjoyed ourselves.
