SUPERBLY EQUIPPED AND VERY COMFORTABLE HOUSE JUST 1KM FROM THE MILINA WATERFRONT

Magnisia/Pilion House Rental Photos and Description

Double bed apartment with terrace upstairs; twin bed studio downstairs

Aphroula's House is a modern and very comfortable and well equipped property set in a beautiful and quiet location at the back of the village of Milina. Upstairs there is a double bed Apartment with a large open plan kitchen/sitting/dining area. The kitchen has a full sized oven with 4 rings, fridge, washing machine, kettle, toaster and coffee maker, and a full range of cutlery, crockery and glassware. The sitting room also has a large and comfortable sofa-bed. There is also a TV and DVD/CD player, though there is no terrestrial TV signal. The shaded veranda in front of the apartment has views through the trees, down the valley and out to sea, and has a marble dining table and two sun loungers. The Apartment has ceiling fans, and an air-conditioner.

Behind the house the hills, covered with olive trees, climb steeply to the village of Lafkos. The lane stops here at the house, so there is no passing traffic... it's very peaceful.

The studio downstairs has twin beds, with space for a third, folding, bed, a kitchen corner with sink, fridge, kettle, toaster and coffee-maker, while outside in a covered area there is a second sink, a small electric oven and rings, and a barbecue. The terrace in front of the studio leads down to an attractive flower and shrub garden and beyond to a productive vegetable garden. The Studio too has an outside marble table, and two sun loungers, and like the Apartment has a ceiling fan and air conditioning.

Aphroula's House is perfect for a family holiday with the parents upstairs, and the children with their own space, downstairs. As the stairwell itself is fully within the building, the effect is of a normal two-storey house. Equally, the house is very suitable for two couples holidaying together, and finally both Apartment and Studio can be let entirely independently.

Note that since the pictures were taken the trees have grown considerably, but the views are still there.

Our Village: Milina is the largest of the seaside villages here in South Pelion - though that is not saying much, with an electoral register of only some 800 souls. However, we have three good grocery and provisions stores, two butchers, two bakers', two souvenir shops, and a couple of shops selling 'summer things' - beach shoes, sun hats, and buckets and spades, etc - and a newsagent and a chemist. And along the waterfront there is a really good selection of tavernas specialising in traditional Greek dishes. There are several souvlaki joints, a pizza palace, and several bars and cafes all with the sea just a metre or so away. Milina Nautic offers 20 and 25 hp motor boats for daily rental, and it is also possible to hire small sailing dinghies, kayaks, and wind surfing equipment. Finally the beaches. The sea here in the Gulf of Volos is normally quiet, calm and warm, and as the beaches don't shelve, and there are no rocks or currents, it is ideal for children.

APHROULA'S APARTMENT, PELION

Aphroula's Apartment, Pelion

"Superbly equipped and very comfortable" is an accurate description of Aphroula's apartment. All the contents were of good quality and Tim & Aphroula Smart were attentive hosts. Spotlessly clean when we arrived.
The view from the terrace towards the sea is really lovely and the house is set in peaceful olive groves.
Milina is a pleasant village [part resort and part fishing] with plenty of good tavernas on the sea front. Amazing views across the gulf towards the islands and the distant mountains.
The Pelion Peninsular is an ideal spot for a "Get away from it all" holiday - very beautiful with really friendly locals. Good, uncrowded beaches and a varying landscape from the deep verdant valleys and fascinating mountain villages around Mt. Pelion in the North to the Olive groves and gentle hills in the South.
Strongly recommend this property to friends and relations.

AFFROULA'S HOUSE, PELION

A delightful and well-appointed house, which is an easy kilometre's walk from the sea front, shops and beach. Gorgeous views, including sea, from the terrace. Spotless bedlinen, a cleaner provided, and when a bulb blew, the owner was on the spot with a replacement. Excellent food and drink in the local tavernas, and within easy driving distance of atmospheric villages and further beaches. The terraced garden includes growing herbs, orange and lemon trees. This was an ideal place for a restful holiday. The house was equipped with central heating, not needed as it happened, but comforting in case of chillier weather. The outside kitchen downstairs (there is an internal one upstairs) was handy for barbecues. Downstairs, the accommodation functioned as a self contained two person studio, but the house could be treated as one unit for larger numbers. This worked well for us, from the welcome pack of bread, veg, honey and wine, to the final day of our stay.

EXCELLENT PROPERTY

  • 5 of 5
We spent 9 nights at this lovely property. It was exactly as described on the website. It was very well looked after and the quality of all the furnishings, equipment etc was good. There was plenty of cooking equipment so we ate in on several nights. The owners live up the hill behind the house so were readily available if any problems (although we did not have any).
We were impressed by the thoughtful extras eg. sun visor for the car, adaptor for plug, beach umbrellas, local walking maps. The welcome pack was wonderful comprising much more than normal in a rental property. Aphroula's homemade marmalade went down a treat with breakfast toast.
The house is in a quiet position about 10 mins walk from the Milina seafront with restaurants and coffee shops.
We were very grateful for having been sent very precise instructions by the owner for reaching the property as it seems complicated on arrival after a long day travelling.
We were a party of 3 adults ( married couple + friend) and the property arrangement suited us very well as our friend had her own space in the studio but we could sit and eat together upstairs.
We spent some part of most days walking in the surrounding countryside admiring the wild flowers and magnificent views. Afternoons were usually spent on one of the many beautiful beaches which we normally had to ourselves.
On a damp day we drove up the scenic west coast and over to the traditional villages of Potaria and Makranitsa.

A wonderful relaxing holiday in a lovely property in a very beautiful and unspoilt part of Greece.

SPACIOUS PROPERTY WELL APPOINTED AND MAINTAINED

  • 5 of 5
Aphroula’s house is a wonderful place to spend a holiday in a picturesque setting on the hillside behind the seaside village of Milina. The house is extremely well appointed and the owners who live close by make you most welcome. All fittings are of the highest standard and the kitchen appliances provide for every cooking option you might need. The large outside terrace areas offer sunbathing or shade in total seclusion and the lounge area in the apartment is extremely spacious and comfortable when you feel like relaxing indoors. Added to this Milina is an excellent base to explore the unspoilt Pelion peninsula. There are safe bathing beaches and a series of well marked walking trails to be enjoyed in addition to boat trips and other water based activities. It is the ideal place for a ‘getting away from it all’ holiday experience.

Car: recommended

Densely forested and remarkably green, even in the summer, the Pelion Peninsula juts south-east into the Aegean Sea, some 200 miles north of Athens. Shaped roughly like a fish-hook, it encloses the Pagasitic Gulf on its inside curve whereas the outer coastline opens onto the the Aegean. It is a wonderful place for swimming, sunbathing and relaxation which will remind you of Greece of the sixties and seventies: sitting at a taverna for ages, drinking wine, without feeling pushed to leave; women returning home with their goats, and stopping to chat to their friends; the irrigation channels flowing early in the morning to water the summer gardens - and many other aspects of village life which help one to wind down. But there are of course things to do as well; walking on the old stone donkey paths; horse-back riding and motor boats, sailing boats and kayaks for hire. And if you have a car, which we strongly recommend, there are the marvelous old mountain villages to explore.
