La Maison des Amis accommodates 2/4 people in absolute comfort and privacy, a perfect hideaway for a couple or a family. It dates back to 1785, 4 years before the French Revolution, and displays many traditional features such as oak beams, tiled floors and external walls constructed from regional limestone rendered in the local style inside. The cottage nestles in a tranquil corner of the Loire Valley in between a productive orchard and open countryside. Its southerly aspect offers guests unlimited views of the surrounding panorama and uninterrupted sunlight throughout the day. In late summer, 20 vines in the cottage’s enclosed garden offer, in conjunction with the orchard, an abundance of organic apples, grapes and pears. La Maison des Amis is, all in all, a perfect location from which to explore France.
Living room/sitting area: Living room.
Downstairs there is a large combined living room/dining room/kitchen area. The entire floor in this area is tiled with the original tiles which still retain their beautiful old terracotta colour despite being 240 years old. The kitchen section of the room has a fridge/freezer, a microwave oven, a hob and oven as well as a dishwasher. This charming room has three windows with garden views.
The sitting area has an open wood-burning fireplace, complementing a large sofa with two comfortable arm chairs. There is also electric central heating although you only need it in the winter. There is a TV/DVD player and Hi-Fi system. WiFi is available too. Plenty of books to relax reading as well as games for all.
Dining area: Dining area
A dining table with four chairs sits in front of an old French dresser which houses all the cutlery, crockery and necessary utensils. Other essentials such as washing up liquid, soap, kitchen towels and table-cloths are provided as well.
Oak kitchen units, hand made by the local Menusiere, complement this part of the downstairs open plan room. A comfortable area where one can prepare food while sharing time with their loved ones. All necessary electrical appliances such as an electric hob, an electric oven, microwave oven and a dishwasher are in place to make the visitors time as confortable as possible.
There are plenty of saucepans, oven trays and kitchen utensils.
All crockery is kept in the large oak dresser by the dining area of the room. The dining table with its four chairs make eating times comfortable and enjoyable.
On the first floor there is a settee, two arm chairs a small table and a bookcase. It is the area in the cottage that one can sit and read, work or just have some time to oneself. A cozy little corner to practise yoga or to meditate.
The main bedroom is through this room. A king size bed with very comfortable mattress, two bedside tables, bed side lights and two arm chairs make this room again very comfortable and welcoming. There is large fitted double wardrobe and a chest of drawers. Two mirrors and book cases complete this lovely bedroom with its old ceiling beams.
There two windows towards the south of the property overlooking the fields with the vines and walnut trees. One window overlooking the garden and the fields across on the west side of the room. A very warm and relaxing place to sleep and rest with your morning coffee.
Local area: The local restaurant, La Rénaissance, in Saint Hippolyte opens daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner and is famous for its foie gras. Booking a table at the weekend is essential. The boulangerie in the centre of the village has everything one needs, from fresh bread and croissants to vegetables and wine.

Chinon: Flea market every third Sunday of the month
An ideal place for those who love tranquility and living close to amenities. An ideal place to explore the Touraine region of France and to enjoy regional food. La Maison Des Amis is very close to all the chateaux of the Loire valley. It's proximity to these places of attraction make it a perfect place to stay. AMBOISE with the historical museum of LEONARDO DA VINCI, CHANONCEAUX where CATHERINE DE MEDICI lived, CHAMBORD, the hunting residence of the French kings are all within very easy reach from the cottage.
We spent a week in this lovely cottage. Everything was perfect and all the things we needed were provided. The grounds where the cottage was situated were perfect and so well maintained by the owners Katerina and John. Magnificent views over the surrounding countryside and a perfect base to explore this wonderful area of France. It was so peaceful but close enough to nearby towns if you wanted a night out.
We were lucky enough to have Katerina and John staying at the same time and we saw just how hard they work to keep this site in perfect order. We benefitted from their knowledge of the area which they were happy to share with us and we spent a lovely evening with them chatting and drinking wine at their home. It was a really nice stay and we would definitely recommend it.

From the moment we arrived we were welcomed by the most wonderful hosts. We shared wine, meals and a day with them visiting Angel sur l'Anglin and we developed a wonderful friendship.
The accommodation was clean, comfortable and well maintained. Like all of the places we stayed, the only suggestion for improvement would be ceiling fans for the hot evenings.
We would recommend this as a restful place to stay or a central location to base yourself for day trips.
It would be ideal for a family with lots of space for children to play. While there was ample space to share with a second couple, the bedding best suited a family.
We would not hesitate to stay there again. Katerina organised a meeting with a local in our profession. Her knowledge and advice on local tourist sights, where to eat and suggestions of activities were very appropriate.
We hope we can return their hospitality when they visit Australia in the future.
Highly recommended and very French!. The cottage is in a wonderful peaceful location. Very well maintained and equipped, clean throughout. The gite is in an excellent location for visiting chateaux and towns including Loches and Tours.
We have spent a very good time in St Hippolyte in La Maison des Amis. We were in love for the cottage!. Such a nice cosy place! It was so calme and peaceful there. An oasis of rest! It is a place to return!
The house is very comfortable. We had all we need.
And the region of Val de Loire is very interesting.Beautiful area and there is also a lot to visit and to see.

La Maison des Amis was perfect for our holiday.
The cottage is well equipped and is in a lovely setting, with a well-kept pretty garden looking out across fields and adjoining an orchard. Birdsong and buzzing bees were the soundtrack to our time there.
Nearby Loches was good for shopping - both in the supermarket and the market which, combined with a visit to the Donjon and Royal Palace, made a lovely day.
Further afield Chenonceaux is about 30 mins away and Chaumont - with its garden festival - just under an hour.
La Maison des Amis proved perfect for our holiday – we were able relax peacefully in the sun at the cottage, visit some of the ‘big names’ in the Loire and explore the interesting ‘hidden gem’ villages nearby. (Watching the Tour de France whizz through Villeloin Coulanges was just a 2013 bonus!!)
Thanks to Katerina for all her work making it perfect!
A lovely, authentic, traditional french cottage, set in the heart of the beautiful Loire countryside. Old tiled floors, fireplace and old oak beams - all very romantic! Very quiet and peaceful pretty garden, secluded with views over neighbouring fields - a real suntrap, good for the BBQ and long summer evenings.
A good location near Loches, close to many Chateaux and other pretty villages and also the rivers.
Thankyou Katerina, we had an excellent time and would stay again :)

La Maison des Amis cottage is one of four buildings that form 'Le Puits d'eau claire' farm, (the well of the clear water). It dates back to 1785, four years before the French Revolution. Renovated 20 years ago La maison des Amis retains most of its original features. It is a place where one can relax and enjoy the open countryside.
La Maison des Amis is 600 m from the centre of a very old village with a beautiful square, a restaurant, a boulangerie, a garage, a post office and two doctors clinics. The village rests along side the river Indre, a tributary to the Loire river further up.
9 km to the North one of the most picturesque towns in central France Loches, lies at the foot of the rocky eminence on which stands the chateau de Loches. The castle was one of the residences of the kings of France. The beautifully maintenained old cobbled stone street that takes you to the castle is flanked by many houses of the renaissance period.
Golf: A 9 hole golf course is nearby in Vernueil -sur- Indre. La Roche Posay has an 18 hole golf course with putting greens, and also boasts a casino, hippodrome and hydrotherapy spa.
