The villa Nikolaos can accomodate 4-5 people!

The Villa Nikolaos is one old farm house built more than 100 years ago.

It was restored by the owners in the beginning of decade ' 90 with great care and attention to keeping all the traditional elements and with much personal hard work (it was not intended initially for tourist use). It is on the edge of the village, so that no one is disturbed by the presence of residents (besides it is a very quiet small village), t the same time it is still part of the village. The view is exceptional, as it is found in the brow of a steep slope that dominates in the very green landscape.

There is a very big exterior space 1300 m2, garden with roses and other flowers, very large carobs; stone built terraces with a vine and fruit trees, swimming-pool , dimensions 8x4 of metters, it is situated in the best spot, with amazing view.

The ' Villa Nikolaos» is looked after by the owners Katerina (Keti) Zaharioudaki and Vangelis Markakis. They live in Rethymno , where they attend and 'The house of Dolphins '(' Casa dei Delfini '), an old Venetian-Turkish mansion in the centre of the old city of Rethymno , that they restored and is today a total of five rented studios).

The parents of Katerina John and Katina Zaharioudaki live in a nearby house. They look after the garden, the flowers and the trees and they are at your disposal whenever you need them.

The villa Nikolaos can house 4-5 individuals also in exceptional cases 6.' It has area 75 m2 in the ground floor and 55 m2 on the first floor. On the first floor there is also a spacious veranda 40 m2.

On the ground floor there is the kitchen, the living room with a television (free satellite channels) and a fireplace, and a small WC with washing machine.

A wooden internal staircase leads to the upper floor where the bedrooms are. Each bedroom has air-condition, central heating (radiator) and there are disposed abundant timbers for the fireplace.

The villa Nikolaos is located in the picturesque village of Archaea Eleftherna of Rethymno city.

The village is built on a high hill, above it and in the surrounding area the ancient city of Eleftherna was located. It is the main archaeological site of the prefecture. The sea is about 15 kilomtres distant . Nearny ( 11 km ) is found the historical abbey Arkadi , the traditional village Margarites ( 5 km ) with a living tradition in pottery going back 5000 years and a lot of other small picturesque villages ,that maintain still maintain their lively colours and traditional architecture.. For those who love the quietness, strolling, the nature and the genuine Cretan landscape, it is an exceptional choice.

Still, because of its position in the prefecture of Rethymno , access by car is easy to most of the island,eg Chania, Heraklion, Sfakia, Anogeia, Nida, Knossos, Faistos, southern beaches, that are many and beautiful. The road network is excellent and passes through some of the most beautiful and still attached landscapes in Crete. Particularly we recommend the visit in the southern coasts, via the very green province of Amari- via Arkadi, Thronos, Meronas, Gerakari, and Spili etc.

We arrived to a warm welcome with a fridge full of food after our journey from the airport. Beautiful pool which kept us all amused including two teenage children. Lovely location with good view across the valley. The owner was very knowledgable and helpful with all our questions. The property was cleaned to a high standard twice a week, this is included in the price. We loved the villa and the surrounding area, full of history. We would highly recommend this property and we would rent it again. The Barnard family, London, England

This is really a home from home. The villa is very well equipped with everything you would have at home. The house and gardens are immaculately kept. The interior is cool and elegant and the garden offers many places to dine, relax and just sip a glass of wine and appreciate the view. The welcome pack of fresh eggs, breakfast things, coffee, tea, milk, olive oil (homegrown) and wine & raki (again home-made) really made us feel welcome. Fantastic fast oven, dishwasher & washing machine made the stay stress free. The pool is a highlight - just the right size for lap swimming but equally great for just floating about. Swallows skimming in are a highlight, and watching bats at dusk was really special. The garden is beautiful and very well tended.
The new Archaeological museum under construction will offer greater insight into the ancient city. Our host spent a day showing us the cisterns, ancient mill, and various ruins, his allotment and even accompanied us to the monastery at Arkadi, offering a deep insight into the history. It was like having our own tour guide. We were too early in the season for the taverna in the village, but Margarites offered a variety of places to eat and many pottery workshops for great souvenirs.
