Traditional Touraine 'fermette' in a rural setting close to a small town with chateau, designated 'un des plus beaux villages de France', La Dependance offers a private, tranquil base to reach the best of the Loire area. The cottage was restored two years ago to create two spacious bedrooms plus mezzanine, sleeping from one person to 5 in comfort, with a large 'salon', plus dining room, kitchen, bathroom with (good) shower and separate WC. Furnished with antique and designer modern furniture, the cottage offers all mod cons (washing machine, dishwasher, microwave/fan oven etc). Terrace and BBQ for 'al fresco' dining. In Summer months there's a lovely swimming pool and lounge area for exclusive use; fruit in the orchard for picking. Winter warmth is provided by electric heating plus the charm of a wood-burning stove with plenty of fuel provided. Chateaux, wine-tasting and buying and eating traditional Touraine specialties. High culture and shops in Tours, 40 min drive.

Located in the beautiful Indre-et-Loire in proximity to all the major Loire chateaux, the house is ideally placed for sight-seeing, picnics, wine-tasting Loire wines from Muscadet in the West to Chablis in the East, with many appellation wines between and fabulous food. 1km woodland walk to 11th-century Montresor, designated one of the most beautiful villages in France, with two chateaux on a citadel, patisserie-boulangerie, tennis courts, cafe/restaurant, charming river walks and excellent local shops. Lake/water park 4km away.In Loches,10km away, twice weekly markets sell everything from fresh chevre and brebis cheeses, honey, Touraine specialties, air-dried meats, local produce, antiques and clothing. A lake 4 km away offers water-sports and night-life. Tours, 40 minutes north, is a major city with marvellous shops, picturesque streets, restaurants and culture. TGV trains (Paris 1.5hrs) and Tours airport with low-cost flights from Stansted. Channel ports by car in 5-6 hours.

  • Comfortable pocket-sprung beds in spacious bedrooms, simply furnished with antique furniture and modern bedding! The main bedroom has an oak bed-frame and double mattress. Floor to ceiling windows look out onto the orchard. The second L-shaped bedroom has two single beds (which can be made up as a further double) plus a third single bed to accommodate three children or adults sharing. A sofa bed on a mezzanine space open to the stairs (but behind banisters) provides a good reading/relaxing area for one person and an alternative sleeping area for one. All bedding is supplied - pillows and duvets, is good quality and clean. Please note that linen and towels can be supplied at extra supplemental cost to cover laundering.

Notes: Swimming pool is a full-size 10m x 6m. Professionally built and installed, it has a beige liner giving aquamarine-blue sparkling-looking water. It has curved steps leading down into it for paddling and sitting and chatting. The pool has a shallow end of approx 1.5m and a deep end of 2.5m. There is a large flagged sitting out area surrounding the pool which includes shade under an ancient timbered roof. Large sofas line two walls, allowing the whole family to laze around. Sun-loungers and hammocks can be positioned in favourite spots and, for the active, a table-tennis table and bats are provided. The swimming pool area is safely enclosed with a low-level fence which allows views of the orchard and fields beyond - all completely private.

ACTIVITIES: The property is located close to a wide variety of activities. A 'plan d'eau' at Chemille-sur-Indre provides lake swimming, water sports and fishing. Day tickets can be bought for river fishing also. Beautiful river walks in the two villages nearest to the house can be reached in a short stroll through rural scenery. There is an ancient, still working, priory just outside the village which can be visited and thei monks' church services can be attended if desired. Tennis courts can be hired at Montresor and Loche-sur-Indre nearby. Horse riding is available at local stables, including a natural horsemanship (Parelli) centre at Nouans-les-Fontaines. (Cadre Noir, Saumur within reach) Bicycles can be hired from Loches. The Tourist Office - set in a troglodyte cave - in Montresor has details of all attractions including 'son et lumiere' productions, theatre, markets, festivals, 'brocantes' and antiques fairs, mushroom caves, not to mention all the Loire chateax.
