Snorkel and Swim and Enjoy Paradise at Hale Ho'okomo!
Hale Ho’okomo which means in Hawaiian “to come on in” is just exactly what you are going to want to do when you arrive in this cute as can be Kapoho cottage. Located in the highly desirable, ever-sunny Kapoho, Hale Ho'okomo is set in a lush tropical and private setting. Pick papayas, bananas, and other tropical fruits right outside your door. Yes, this is Paradise! Enter through the double glass doors into the large living area and into your warm and welcoming vacation home. Live like the locals in this colorful, fun and funky Hawaiian style cottage that is just steps from some of the most spectacular snorkeling found on the Big Island. Green sea turtles (honu) love this area because of its warm temperatures and so will you! From the house, you can hear the waves and smell the clear breeze blowing across the Pacific (cleanest air in the US).
Just a five minute drive down the famous Red Road is the Ahalanui Warm Spring Park which is a geothermally heated swimming pond at the edge of the Pacific Ocean. Since Kapoho is located at the furthest most eastern edge of the Big Island, it enjoys drier weather and those comfortable ocean trade winds. Just a ten minute drive is the quaint and historical village of Pahoa with its original boardwalks, shopping, and fantastic dining! There’s Italian, Thai and even Tex-Mex!
Hale Ho’okomo can sleep up to 5. There are two spacious bedrooms and two bathrooms. The master bedroom has a Queen bed and a twin and the 2nd bedroom has a queen. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you will need to fix up a traditional island meal. For your convenience and easy clean up, there is a dishwasher. It was a great stay at your wonderful house- we felt really at home.
We wished we could stay one more week- mainly on that wonderful veranda.
It was the most beatiful and comfortable accomodation we had in the 4 weeks, we stayed in Hawaii!
My family and I arrived to this clean bungalow with fresh flowers on the lanai. The keys were in the lockbox and the best advice was to always put them right back in the lockbox in case we were to get locked out. The first thing that happened was a friend closed the door without realizing it was locked but it didn't matter because the keys were right in the box. Most days we walked to the tide pools and snorkeled. So beautiful and the fish were amazing. The drive along the Red Road to Kaimu Black Beach is super cool. We visited quite a few farmer's markets and hit the super market and fish market almost daily to stock up on food. It was great to be able to eat in everyday. The drive to Kona on Saddle Road took 2 hours and was definitely worth the trip. The location of this house was great because we definitely felt like we were on the side of the island that was more tropical, quiet and unique. My most favorite spot was the front lanai. We sat there every morning and then as much as possible.
Best vacation home I've rented! Great amenities, super clean, amazing new landscaping, only steps to the tide pools and ocean. There were papayas and bananas to pick, wonderful kitchen, and lots of space. My favorite was sitting on the front lanai and listening to the ocean. Grab this rental if it's available! You won't be disappointed.
This was like a little oasis, a wonderful place for a few days at the Kapoho tidal pools. My family really enjoyed our stay; our son chased and caught the geckos, we watched the mongoose rummage around the front garden, relished the outdoor shower after spending hours snorkelling. The house was clean and tidy (we loved the Bali / Indonesian theme), had everything we needed, the garden was beautiful and the front lanai was perfect for breakfast or afternoon tea.
If we ever return, we are headed straight back to Hale Ho'Okomo and we would recommend it to anyone interested in this part of Hawaii.
My wife and I stayed here for ten days and all I can say is WOW! The cottage was perfect in every way. The pictures are accurate and the location was just as described. When we arrived soft Hawaiian music was playing and a fresh vase of Island flowers along with a snack were waiting for us. You are very close to a lot of awesome activities and we were not bothered by insects either. The tide pools are just steps away where you can do some amazing snorkeling or jump in your ride and in just a few minutes be at other amazing spots. This is a perfect distance from Hilo and would recommend staying here instead of right in town. Everything you need is pretty close by including a small grocery store. Sleeping was awesome because you leave the windows cranked open and the trade winds come in and just knock you right out. The owner has done a great job with this place and highly recommend. Management of the cottage is very professional and just a phone call away. No need to hesitate on this one! Thanks to everyone for making our getaway PERFECT!!
We stayed at the home March 4-12 this year, and we enjoyed our time tremendously. The house is as described and more. The interior decorations were lovely, the kitchen quaint and well stocked, and the master bedroom and bath were perfect. The second bedroom is smaller, and the bathroom the 2nd a little tiny but very functional. The outdoor lanai was where we had our meals at the end of the day, and had coffee and read in the morning, very relaxing. The ocean is a block away, and the tide pools are about 2 blocks over. The neighborhood watch was very consistent each night. Even though the Koi frogs certainly were singing their hearts out each night, I know they are invasive, but we found the sound soothing actually. My husband used the outdoor shower everyday in the back yard! Had a little trouble with the wireless, but Ron/Mark were very helpful in finding us a solution right away. Mark/Ron were very helpful and responsive when booking the rental, I would certainly work with them again, great customer service. Pahoa has great food choices, and a few nights we tried those. The front yard is much more open than the picture now as the owners did a lot of new work, I am sure it will grow in nicely, just an FYI when you are expecting a total jungle. The Pahoa farmer's market is a must try, the food there was amazing, great art/crafts, fun vibe, go early or late! We enjoyed the southern area and spent alot of time in low key areas hiking, cliff viewing, lava tube walking, and visited Kalani retreat center quite a bit too. The house is well worth the money, it was as described, very quaint, and you can tell the owner put alot of love into the place. Enjoy!
