Close to National Parks, superb situation in the Real Portugal

Welcome to Villa Borboleta. Family holidays for those looking for that ' Away From It All ' situation in a beautiful environment. Outside barbecue area, ping pong, large parking area, plenty of enclosed garden for all the children to play .

Swimming pool 10 m x 4 m set into lower lawn, privacy offered by a border of fir trees. The accommodation has one double bedroom, 3 twin bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, sun verandah, kitchen/diner, lounge and indoor games area.

At the rear there is a wooded hillside, and there are gentle walks through the local village bridleways. Magnificent panorama over the valleys and mountains to National Parks. Saturday market in the local town of Paredes de Coura. Valenca do Minho at 18 km is a fortressed town with Wednesday market, a real hive of interest. Porto is just one hour away.

Garden of Eden: This northern most province is considered the Portuguese garden of Eden and provides wonderful opportunities for walking and exploring the ancient churches, tracks, villages and Celtic settlements. The Portuguese hospitality is second to none and the summer months bring local fiestas and folklore, street dancing and singing, sardines ' A Brasa,' Serra cheese, pungent milho bread and lively 'vinho verde' wine. Simplicity of life amid beautiful surroundings. Local water sports and sandy beaches within a short drive.

Flights: Oporto (Porto) airport in Portugal or Santiago de Compostella airport in Spain. The A3 motorway in Portugal offers a fast, quiet and easily driven road direct to the accommodation. Oporto airport in Portugal on the A3 motorway is a 60 min drive. Ryan Airways offer very reasonable prices from Stansted everyday, also Liverpool and Dublin. T.A.P/ Air Portugal fly from Heathrow. Easyjet fly from Gatwick every day clickair fly from Gatwick to VIGO airport in Spain at just 45 minutes drive. Santiago de Compostella airport in Spain is 90 minutes drive on the new motorway. Iberian air from Heathrow or Ryan from Liverpool and Stansted. Flying from Ireland? Ryan fly from Dublin to Porto & Aer Lingus fly from Dublin to Santiago de Compostella. Local Bars & Restaurants: Allthough the area and gastronomy is essentially traditional 'Portuguese' there are plenty of restaurants offering international food including Chinese, Italian, Brazilian. Many offer take-away food to order.

Within 5 min drive is a town of Paredes de Coura with a central plaza, restaurants, bars and swimming pool are adjacent. A pretty river runs at the side of the town and here there are clean river beaches, tennis courts, restaurant, etc. Just 15 min drive is the motorway to Porto airport and the to the north Santiago de Compostella airport in Spain. At Moledo and Caminha in Portugal the beaches are backed by sand dunes with cafe/bars offering local fare and hospitality. Just across the mouth of the river at Caminha is Galicia (Spain) accessed by the river ferry or the bridge at Cerveira. Here the Spanish offer tapas and a very different gastronomy. In Vigo there is a theme park and the beaches stretching from there to Baiona are more commercialized with banana boats, pedaloes etc.

Lovely villa in superb surroundings

Our first visit to Portugal was excellent. We deliberately picked Northern Portugal to experience the more traditional culture and we were not disappointed. The villa was really lovely inside and out - spacious, well equipped and private. The kids loved the pool and table tennis and on the odd day when the weather was cloudy, playing board games and having a TV kept us suitably occupied. In general we had great weather so the good sized bbq meant many outdoor meals with the local supermarket providing eveything you might need. A great base from which to see Portugal, with some large towns (and Spain), between 30 mins and 1 hour away.

Many thanks to Keith for his attentiveness and assistance from booking, to providing directions and pointing out local sights and amenities. Would highly recommend and have every intention of visiting again!
