Summer activities:
The Lauterbrunnen valley is a centre for walkers, cyclists, hikers and paragliders. There are unlimited trails of varying distances, and difficulty. You can start with a train or cable car ride (bikes welcome) or walk straight from the apartment. For example, a gentle walk down the valley, along the river bank, takes you past the Trümmelbach Falls to Stechelberg. From there you can follow the well-marked route of 'Obersteinbach' through beautiful scenery with views of snow-capped mountains and glaciers. Alternatively, take the cable car up and stroll back down. Lauterbrunnen also has an open-air swimming pool in the summer.
Winter activities:
The Jungfrau region is most famous for skiing but also has much to offer the nonskier. Tobogganing is a great favorite with all age groups. A popular run of several kilometers is from Sulwald, along mountain paths and forestry tracks, to Isenfluh and on down to Lauterbrunnen. Sledges can be hired at local sports shops and night-time tobogganing is organized by the local ski school. There is an annual sledging race from Sulwald - Isenfluh in February. For winter hikers and snowshoers, there are 50 km of prepared trails, and cable cars and trains offer special reduced rates for nonskiers. Equipment can be hired at local sports shops. For those seeking a little luxury, spa facilities are available at some of the local hotels and a small indoor swimming pool is open to nonresidents at Hotel Jungfrau in the village.
The ski season runs from December to April. Across the three areas accessible from Lauterbrunnen (First, Kleine Scheidegg – Männlichen and Mürren-Schilthorn) there are 210 km of pistes catering to all abilities, from beginners to world-cup medal winners. There are also opportunities for off-piste skiing with local guides. The cost of the ski pass includes access to the lifts, mountain trains and shuttle buses that connect the three regions (buses stop within 100 m of the apartment). Lauterbrunnen also has 17 km of cross-country pistes and is home to the annual 'Inferno Cross-Country Ski Race' in January. In the winter the local tennis court becomes an open-air ice rink. Skates can be hired in the village.
