Photos and Description of the Saint Patrick vacation apartment rental
A rental villa and apartment with private pool and beach a short walk away

Perched on a hill in the centre of Parlatuvier, self-catering Tamarind House villa provides breathtaking, uninterrupted views of both the oldest protected rain forest in the Western hemisphere and one of the most attractive beaches along Tobago’s Caribbean coastline. Completed in April 2007 the rental villa with separate apartment is a thoughtfully designed and constructed log house. It is a perfect holiday retreat. From the verandas, pool, terrace and garden, guests can relax and watch the day go by - fishing boats leaving early and arriving with the catch mid afternoon, the daily migration of orange winged parrots, cocricos, egrets and corn birds to and from their favourite roosts, and much more besides. With the beach an easy stroll of 4 or 5 minutes away there is ample opportunity to swim and snorkel amongst coral reefs fringing the beach.

CUSTOMER REVIEW: Janine Turner from Norwich, UK visited in December 2007

My daughter and I stayed at Tamarind house for Christmas and new year and we had the most relaxing and interesting holiday ever.

The house and location are very beautiful. The house is spacious and furnished and equipped to a very high standard. The views of the palm tree lined sandy bay and the rain forest art quite wonderful. The village is pretty and quaint and the people friendly and helpful. We hired a jeep for the whole two weeks so that we could explore the wonderful and exotic countryside, idyllic bays and waterfalls. The evenings were spent chilling out in the pool and cooking fish on the Bar B Q or sipping rum punches on the wonderful terrace gazing at the sun setting on the bay. Sharon, the housekeeper was friendly, helpful and kept everything looking lovely. I can highly recommend Tamarind house as the perfect place to have a truely chilled out holiday in an exotic location.

Paradise!

Paradise...that's what we found at Tamarind House. Parlatuvier is a quaint fishing village with a very laid back approach to life. Very non 'touristy'. About an hour's drive from the airport. We found the locals to be friendly and welcoming. Tamarind house is located in the centre of the village, up on a hill overlooking the bay and jetty. The view is quite spectacular! The house was immaculate, the pool area was private and the pool was perfect for a relaxing cool down. If you prefer, the ocean is just a quick walk. Sharon, the housekeepper was very welcoming, accessible and a great source of information. We also met her mom, son, daughter, brother...very closely knitted community. My husband and I spent quite a bit of time down at the jetty, visiting with the locals, swimming and snorkelling in the bay. Everyday around 5 pm the fishermen return with their catch. Nothing better that a fresh fish fry!! Although there is a local convenience store we would recommend you rent a vehicle as Tamarind House is not within walking distance of a typical grocery store. My husband and I have travelled quite extensively and both of us agree, Parlatuvier and Tamarind house go to the top of our list for places we thoroughly enjoyed. We have already decided to start planning our return trip. The only difference will be to stay much longer than a week. We would definitely recommend Tamarind House if you are looking to relax and get away from the hustle and bustle.

A very special place

It is a very special place! The most amazing vistas - the whole of the bay at the front and rainforest surrounding the back - The house itself is very well designed and resourced - we chose to stay in the apartment, with the garden and rainforest views - it's quieter - apart from the emerald parrots that fly noisily in pairs overhead and bananquits who hang from the sugar feeders - hummingbirds in the garden too - and a turquoise pool to dip in - You can have the apartment doors open and lie in the hammock overlooking the garden/forest. Plenty of room in the apartment for 4 adults and although you have to share the bathroom, the shower is huge !

A five minute walk gets you on the beach where you can swim, snorkle or buy fresh fish from the boats as they return in the afternoon. A little more exertion gets you quickly into the forest where you will be amazed by the sounds and sights, including a waterfall on either of the rivers that fall swiftly from the hills.

5 star luxury in paradise

  • 5 of 5
  • Submitted: Aug 3, 2008

For a week in June 2008, my boyfriend and I stayed in Tamarind House, a ‘5 Star luxury paradise villa' in the remote fishing village of Parlatuvier. The villa had much more to offer than just the day to day household necessities – there were impressive views of not only the bay, but also the surrounding rainforest in which we found ourselves becoming deeply absorbed. Although we stayed in the well equipped downstairs apartment, we still had the luxury of eating breakfast on the veranda which over-looked the bay with a million dollar view that could never tire us.
One of our favourite features of the house was the small, but more than sufficient, outdoor swimming pool, a fantastic place to cool down and watch the sun set after a long day exploring the island. The pool was also the perfect place to spend a romantic evening, sitting under the starry Caribbean night sky accompanied by the serenading sounds of the tropical night-time nature.
The best thing about the apartment was the huge, open spaced shower area decorated with mosaic tiles in different hues of blue. The air-conditioned bedroom with mosquito netting over the bed made for a great night's sleep.
Just a short walk from the end of the drive, is a great little parlour selling delicious Roti, a local lunchtime snack. If what you are wanting is a quick, filling, tasty yet affordable lunch which is also a Caribbean 'delicacy' - then a trip to the Roti hut is a must .
When it came to exploring the island, we did it in true Che Guevara style - via a motorcycle. We rented out a 125cc motorcycle and had a blast! It was a great way of travelling and gave us a real, close-up sense of Tobago. We found ourselves constantly pulling up at the side of the road to embrace those exquisite views and take photos. Probably not such a good idea in rainy season though!
Neighbouring Englishman's Bay really is a spectacular place to soak up the sun and splash around in the sea. If you are really lucky and get there at the right time, you may have the whole beach to yourselves. I completely understand how Englishman’s Bay was once voted one of the top ten beaches in the world.
Overall, we had a wonderful trip to Tobago and could think of no better place to have stayed than Tamarind House. The fact that the owners are willing to share it with others is something that should definitely be taken advantage of - it has to be seen to be believed.

The Tamarind House is AMAZING!

My wife and I stayed at the Tamarind House in March '08 and it was amazing! The location of the house is the best. It was nice and quiet with close access to little stores and restaurants in the bay. We felt safe and comfortable during our stay. The whole place is wisely designed and feels cozy. The property was very clean, and the landscaping is exactly what you see in the pictures, beautiful! Views from this hilltop villa are great, because you’re basically staying at one of the highest points in Partlatuvier Bay. Watching the sunset every evening from the second story wooden deck is a must!
The small downstairs apartment is well equipped with everything you need (although the fridge could be bigger), and the air conditioner (with remote) in the bedroom works extremely well! We found ourselves using the grill and pool area everyday, it was nice to be able to cook outside and soak-in the scenery. Also there’s a wonderful 5-10min hike to a beautiful waterfall starting from just across the edge of the driveway of the Tamarind House. The owner’s of the Tamarind House are very friendly and respond quickly to inquiries. The customer service provided by the property managers was excellent! They just couldn’t have been more friendly and helpful whenever we needed them. I would definitely recommend this house to anyone I know.
The best party in the area is on Wednesday night in the nearby town of Castara (15-20 min drive from Tamarind House) at the Boat House Restaurant for the best Steel Drum players you’ve ever heard and the tastiest all-you-can-drink Rum Punch in the Caribbean. And the food is really good too. The best snorkeling is even closer at Englishman’s Bay, go all the way out to the tips of the bay on both sides. The hot roti & chicken curry at Eula’s Restaurant on Englishman’s Bay is yummy! (watch out for the hungry kitty cat) Drive to Blue Waters Inn, Speyside and check out the Frank’s Glass Bottom Boat tour to Little Tobago and hike to through the bird sanctuary (snorkeling included) for only $17 US. Enjoy your stay at Tamarind House! I know we did!
