The summerhouse was built in 2005 and is 78 square metres. It has two bedrooms, kitchen, bathroom and a living room. The master bedroom has a queen-sized bed. The second bedroom has a double bed and single bed. The kitchen is equipped with all the necessary tools and in the living room there is a big sofa and two reclining chairs. The bathroom has a shower with overhead and side-spraying shower heads easily set to the user's preference.
The house is encircled by a wide terrace from where you can watch the sunset while BBQing. Relax on a deck chair or unwind in the six-person jacuzzi!
Around the house there is a big lawn. But you should not let the fence limit you; take a walk straight from the house up the mountain Búrfell.
We originally chose this place because of it's seclusion from Reykjavik or any other large cities. Our goal was to see the northern lights and this place didn't disappoint. Every cloudless night while we were there, the aurora was clearly visible with virtually no light pollution. It made for an awe inspiring and romantic getaway.
The location was great for more than just the lights though. The cabin is a short drive from adventures like the golden circle, the silfra snorkeling site, and Eldhestar horse stables.
The cabin was like a second home. The kitchen was stocked with all of the utensils and tools you could need not to mention plenty of spices. The view outside the expansive living room window was beautiful and a basket full of slippers ensured we were always cozy.
Slightly off the beaten path, this cabin is an easily accessible gem and a wonderful place to stay when enjoying the wonderful land of Iceland.
The summerhouse was an absolutely perfect place to stay on our trip to Iceland - lovely sunsets over the valley whilst in the hot tub were a highlight! The location is great for exploring what Iceland has to offer and the house itself was cosy and well equipped. Thanks to Starkaður for making our trip an easy one!
Chose this house because of it's location and it came up trumps. About an hour out of the capital up in the hills, but easily accessible.Situated within easy driving distance of town and the "Golden Circle" attractions. The unit is fully kitted out including decks, fire pit and hot tub. We never really felt like we were renting more of a friend of the family as it was so homely. Would definitely rent again.
Ideal location for the Northern Lights which put on a good show for us.
We really can't say enough how much we enjoyed our stay here. Starkaður and his brother Styrmir were very helpful, answering all of our questions and making us feel welcome.
The summerhouse itself is very comfortable. It does not feel like an impersonal vacation rental. Rather, we got the feeling that we had been entrusted with what must be a very special place for the family, with many good memories.
The location is perfect for exploring west and south Iceland. Thingvellir, Gulfoss and Geysir are all nearby; the town of Selfoss has everything you need in the way of groceries and supplies; and Reykjavik is a bit of a trek, but close enough to drive in for dinner or a day of sightseeing and shopping.
The kitchen is well-appointed, and the hot tub is the perfect place to relax after a long day. As an added bonus, we also found the summerhouse to be an ideal location for viewing the northern lights, which appeared on two of the four nights of our stay.
Stay here on your trip to Iceland. You won't regret it.
We visited Iceland with our teenage boys aged 15 and 17 for 10 days and found the Summerhouse perfect for both sightseeing and spending the odd day just lazing about.
Birgir & Sigrún and their Sons were very helpful with advise before the holiday and the Summerhouse is superb with everything you need and very warm. We visited the golden circle and the Blue Lagoon which were great and then climbed Burfell which is behind the Summerhouse and well worth the effort. Half way through the stay we set off for Skallafell (4 hour drive) where we had booked a glacier hike in advance and this was a huge hit with all of us. We then stayed the night in Hali Guesthouse before returning to the Summerhouse the following day via Jokulsarlon, Vik, Skogar and Dyrholaey where we saw Puffins. Overall we loved the holiday and had good weather for 8 of the ten days. We were amazed how much the boys liked Iceland but it is so different to anywhere else that you cant fail but be impressed. Thanks again to Birgir & Sigrún.
This summerhouse was exactly as described--sunny(when the sun was out), spacious and comfortable. It was also peaceful, relaxing and very homely. We easily found Birgir's house to pick up the key and she met us at the summer house on departure. Beautiful views across the area and up onto Burfell. We did climb this as we wanted to get to the crater lake. There are many false summits. Selfoss is only 20 minutes away, with shops, good bakery and cafes. Kaffi Haus was especially good. We explored a lot of the area and still had time to relax in the hot tub.
The summerhouse is situated under the mountain Búrfell, overlooking Sogn River and Lake Úlfljótsvatn. The surroundings provide peace and tranquillity, while a nice walk up Búrfell will provide you with a spectacular view of the area. You will see the National Park of Þingvellir (Thingvellir) where the Vikings set their parliament in 930. It's only 20 minutes to drive there from the summerhouse. Other places of interest are Lake Laugarvatn (25 minutes), Geysir (geothermal area with geyser, 45 minutes), Gullfoss (Iceland's finest waterfall, 50 minutes) -- all part of Iceland's famous Golden Circle travel route. Outdoor public swimming pools with jacuzzi and water slides can be found in Minni-Borg (15 minutes), Selfoss (15 minutes), and Laugarvatn (25 minutes). On the way to Minni-Borg you pass Kerið, a volcanic crater with a lake in the bottom. The legend says that when the water sinks in Kerið, it rises in the lake on top of Búrfell. Reykjavík and Eyjafjallajökull are one hour by car.
